I've watched a lot of sprintcar racing and I had no idea they also race on paved, banked tracks. Its weird. Looks like the same cars but totally different racing. I did think it odd that this track was called Desoto 'Speedway' when it looked like a mini Nascar track. I just assumed 'speedway' meant something different to here in Australia.
@@natef4240 An oval shaped dirt track where sprint cars race. We don't call them 'winged' sprint cars because all sprint cars have have wings. The smaller non-winged variety are called Formula 500. We also have motor bikes (with and without sidecars) and stock cars. All of which race only at (dirt) 'speedways'. The most striking thing about seeing sprint cars on a paved track is how clean and shiny they are!
In queensland Australia we have no pavement sprintcar tracks anymore that im aware of we have the traditional 410 winged cars he also have a 360 version our non winged spintcars have to run a smaller engine i believe a v6 but dont quote me and a few tracks are trying to run a bigger engine but not many have allowed the class that im aware. Then we have the normal midgets compact speedcars lighting sprints micro sprints formula 500s
That's awesome exciting. Love winged sprint cars. Been watching them since the mid 60's, West Capitol Raceway, Sacramento, long gone iconic track. I raced winged midgets for 6 years myself. I have seen many dozens of spectacular crashes, been in a few. This track is a great example of safety 3rd. Those cars could top or go through that "catch" fence easily. That rusty and short fence couldn't catch a sedated butterfly. Sprint cars are comparatively light races cars but you still wouldn't want one to fall in your lap at any speed. Wheels and parts either. And the guy with the "hold your line" flag is in about the worst place he could be for the drivers to see him and for his own safety also. Don't know who carries the insurance at this track, but that was all insane.
Cool video wish we had some asphalt tracks in Australia, would be so much fun. The red #15 looks awesome, personally i wouldn't bring a gambler style chassis for safety reasons but they are a great car to work with. Do these guys run raised rail chassis? I've never really looked into them too much although i can see some of them are running panard rods instead of jacobs ladders. I'd have a blast on that track! Just let me hot lap I'll be out all day, you will have to turn the lights off to get me to stop! :)
Thank you today I will that it was true I heard rumours from the past the American Sprint Cars Race on bitumen but didn't know if it was true or not this cruise that you do race on bitumen in Australia our Sprint Cars Race on dirt Oval
I think ole Cleeter is in for a reality check......EVERYONE that's ever owned this place has lost their asses on it.......Even the ones who built it sold it before it broke them. Stimus had to file bankruptcy and on and on it goes..Every one of these guys had a shitload of money and big dreams too when they started out.....I give him 3 years before he sees the writing on the wall..The only tracks in Florida that historically have made a go of it are dirt tracks...Asphalt just doesn't draw enough people to sustain itself...Just look at all those empty seats..that tells the tale right there.......
Beginning on time stamp 4:55 WATCH CLOSELY......( and remember, the camera view you see is located on the BACK stretch ), Battle for the lead going into turns 1 & 2, and then back into turns 3 & 4.......WHOA!!! That's some damn good racing right there.......I don't care who ya are. Anyone who gave this video a thumbs down is a straight up candy ass who doesn't know a damned thing about racing.
As a kid watching these in Aus we would stand at the fence and have to duck behind the concrete barrier each time they passed so we didn’t eat dirt. Was always funny when a new friend came along and they didn’t know to duck, and we of course didn’t tell them. They worked it out.
Thanks for posting, was a good race.. Seeing the Sprint Cars on Tarmac reminded me a bit of our Brisca F1 Stock Cars over here in England, check them out on RU-vid they race on both Tarmac and Dirt, all run Chevy V8s and contact is allowed, think sprint cars with bumpers!!
@@StephenThomas2 Yeah I'm sure Cleetus is working on getting actual racing at the track as soon as he can. First he's gotta get the bleachers fixed up which will take the rest of the year. Then he's gotta find someone to run the racing at the track and then he's gotta hire people to do concessions and all that
you have to count the number of fans in the stands, That's what will tell you the success or not. People are just not coming out in the numbers like they used to. But Ive seen very good crowds for Cletus and cars.
i clicked on this video not realizing that this was now the freedom factory hell yeah brother cant wait to see what the future hold for this place looks like it used to be a sweet race track
@@shitbox7413 ok but if you dont think they are fastest type of sprint car than something is wrong with you . They turned a 13.02 sec lap 148mph at Bristol speedway on the asphalt.
Jason blonde is my cousin and he set the record at Bristol speedway he says he loves the speed of asphalt but loves dirt racing sprint cars because it's more of a drivers edge than hp edge
