This is a love song and a lament sung by Clearsight to Darkstalker after she slips the enchanted bracelet onto his wrist. She is grieving for what might have been and doesn't yet know what her own future holds, except that she must leave everything she knows and loves. She must say goodbye not only to Darkstalker but also to the many possible futures they might have shared. The words are based off the text of Tui. T Sutherland from Wings of Fire Legends: Darkstalker
Thanks as always to the incredible artists who help bring my music to life, and thank you to everyone for their patience during a content-free 2020. I hit a creative brick wall and had to take a hiatus from the piano for a while. I'm so happy to be feeling the spark of creativity and inspiration and hope again.
*I had many pieces of art that I didn't have space to use and I apologize to those who sent me their beautiful artwork and don't find it in the video. This piece was text-heavy and I needed to make sure the words were the focus - I'm sorry if I wasn't able to use your piece in Clearsight's Song! Much more opportunities to come! ;)

"I studied the scrolls and I walked all the paths, in my mind, long before you arrived. And I saw all the births, and I saw all the deaths, and the futures, in which we both thrived. But some of the paths led to darkness, broken kingdoms where no one survived; I thought if I knew I could save us. By the moons, if you knew how I tried!"- These lyrics are by far the most heartbreaking in the whole song. Poor Clearsight, she just tried so hard to help go down the right paths, so hard to control her paths, and the future ended up probably being the darkest path of them all. Even when she went to Pantala, she tried to help her descendants, only for them to use her name as a right to enslave and massacre other dragons. The years of trying to save everyone only resulted in making her own life worse :(. At least she had a long, happy life on Pantala, especially after she realized that there would only one future and she should stay in the present (That sounds bad, I don't know how to explain what I was thinking, It's that little sentence at the end of her letter)

Darkstalker is one of my all time favourite books. A story of love and tragedy and power, and you could make arguments for every character - who was wrong? Who was right? But in the end, all of these characters made mistakes - they’re shades of grey and imperfect. Even so my heart has always ached for Clearsight. I know what it’s like to worry endlessly about the future and how it can be scary, how it twists uncontrollably from your grasp sometimes. And reading about her love, her tragedy and how much she wanted a future with Darkstalker, a future she ultimately had to give up, has always been so sad. This is an absolutely amazing piece, showing Clearsight’s memories, her grief. I teared up at some points, especially when she started singing about her dragonets. You’ve always been amazing at song writing, and I love to listen to your music - but you’ve really outdone yourself and you should be proud. Thank you for writing such an extraordinary piece on an extraordinary character.

@Raya Selman I believe that it is not the magic which harms their soul, but themselves who harm it. It is the choices they make and the coping mechanisms that go with it. Although, Albatross’s case is kinda hard to explain. I’ll have to do some rereading.

@@serimus i have a theory that's crazy similar to yours. I think that it isn't the magic that strips their soul, its the hunger for MORE power. They begin to wish to be more powerful. This is also how the IceWings save their animus dragons. If their only allowed to use magic once to make something beautiful, they won't hunger for more.

Oh my, everything after the line "was it worth your mate and offspring?" had me in tears. Clearsight and Darkstalker's story was a tragedy, and you told it well! She loved him dearly, and believed so strongly in the positive futures... I can't imagine the strength it took for her to end it as best she could. The piano is beautiful and so gentle- though direct, there is no malice in her words, only sadness.

I was crying within seconds. I feel like I cry whenever I read legends DarkstaIker book too. I feel so bad for DarkstaIker, abandoned for two thousand years! And even though she told him what he did wrong, she told him all the things he would do, the dark paths they could avoid, and in my opinion, it’s not DarkstaIker’s fault, but Vigalence’s. If she never sent the assassin after DarkstaIker,he wouldn’t have been mad, he wouldn’t have wanted revenge on her….. but the rest of that icewing stuff, it’s their own fault. I mean- you can’t blame DarkstaIker for hating them after they kidnapped his mother! She was nice to DarkstaIker when Arctic wasn’t. I just realized that I got really off topic when this is about Clearsight, so ima talk about her a bit. I feel so sad for Clearsight, I could feel it when she had to leave DarkstaIker, her visions of their dragonets were never going to happen, and she left to the Lost Continent. Pls do NOT spoil the arc 3 (I’m still on book 9 and almost on book 10). But I do know from Google that Clearsight had a happy ending in some lost continent with bug dragons. Apparently she was worshipped by them after thousands of years, but stilll, I feel how sad she was after she left. She saw everything that was going to happen in the future, she tried to warn DarkstaIker. She tried to avoid the dark futures she saw ahead. But according to the back of the book, it was an “unavoidable fate”

I lOVE this! MM, you've nailed it, like always. The smoothe serene notes played throughout gave the impression of Clearsight's tragic past, and when some notes got high, eg. "Like the bodies where they lay" and "In the glaring light of day", it just shows us how important and completely horrible Darkstalker's crimes were.
