Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game from Stonemaier Games. It's designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and features over 170 birds illustrated by Natalia Rojas and Ana Maria Martinez.
You are bird enthusiasts-researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors-seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth:
Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower
Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colors
Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them
The winner is the player with the most points after 4 rounds.

I just watched you 130P challenge and look forward to this one! Killdeer seems to be one of your favourites. ;) My high score in the tabletop is 128 with 34 points from bonus cards (with Oceania expansion). Because of your videos I really want to buy the digital version soon.

Thanks for checking it out. We skipped over the 110 challenge because we hit 130 and 140, but I think it would be worth going back and getting 110 without using the Ravens or Killdeer. Those cards really are a little OP. We're loving the digital app. It's a convenient way to sneak a few games in when you're too lazy to do the live setup. Hopefully you enjoy the 140.

@@LegendaryTactics I just bought the digital edition on sale :). Can´t wait to try it. I like using different stategies in Wingspan not only egg-laying. I suggest you try reaching those 140P with a wetland card-tucking engine. ;)

Hey just watched the 140 challenge. I've been playing for just under a month. Have to say, its much easier to win against the computer/auto than to win against other ruthless humans. :) Having said that, after applying the strategies in this video, I just scored 141!!! Against hard/normal AI. Nevertheless, its a real high for me! Thank you!

I always look at the AI as a trainer. If you do well against the AI, you will likely do very well against humans as well. Congratulations on your score! Check out our video where a friend of ours got 186!

That's incredible! How did you pull that off? What other engine building games do you play that prepared you with some transferable skills? This blows my mind that you did so well, so fast.

@@LegendaryTactics within the first round I had the killdeer, common raven, two tuck a card draw a card and the canada goose down in the grassland. From there I just milled that habitat and got two pink egg layers and a bunch of high point cards. The closest to wingspan that I have played before is probably terraforming mars, but I have played a lot of that.

you should've played the Barn Swallow - missed out on 6-7 tucks! oh no you also missed out on Passerine Specialist on the second to last turn! You were 2 birds less than 30cm away from the top tier, and you could have grabbed the Tufted Titmouse instead of the Downy Woodpecker, sacrificing 1 feather to get 4 extra from the bonus card.

Was California Condor Good? It's hard to value the bonus card due to the random nature but in this case you got 39 points from 8 bonus cards so let's say it worth 5 points. So it's 6 points for no food cost but it costs a turn. Maybe one could argue it costs 2 eggs too since you ended up filling 5th slot in forest. Then it's 4 points. Also, it only has 1 egg slot when your main engine is grassland.

The Condor is just a cheap early bird to get down to help with some of the end of round bonus conditions. It helps get your board of the ground early. So, at the right time, it's solid. It pushes that food production higher. But, you make an interesting argument though, that it may appear to be really strong at the start, but in the end, that may just burn up a turn. After all, we didn't really need food production higher. Food for thought. Thanks for forcing me to reflect on whether that's the best choice in this tableau. It was already apparent at that point that I wouldn't need the forest row.

134 points in a 5 person game. Multiple pink cards, lots of freebies from other players. I basically never had to roll for food.

it mostly depends on how many players there are AND what bad cards they throw...ie everyone gets free food or cards

Bird in the intro looks like a common Firecrest, a european bird that is very similar to the golden-crowned kinglet that is commonly seen in North America

Interesting. The footage I got that from says is a titmouse, but it really dusky look like one to me. We need an ornithologist!

@@LegendaryTactics I actually am a professionnal ornithologist! Definitly not a titmouse or nuthatch. it's without a doubt a member of the Regulidae family, and mostly one of the european species (like the common firecrest) since it doesn't look like any of the north american species that I know.

@@sprid2808 Awesome. I certainly am not. I can't even say I'm a professional gamer! Don't the firecrests have a distinctive red patch on the top of their head or are there different varieties that don't have that? Forgive my ignorance on this topic.

@@LegendaryTactics Most pictures online will show male individuals with full blown out crests, but it's actually rarely the case in the field. Most times, their crests will be at rest, leaving only a small yellow or orange line on the center of the top of the head, as it is shown in this footage of a female bird feeding her youngs. The amount of yellow on the upper back of the bird suggests a firecrest rather than the american counterpart, the golden-crowned kinglet.

When I was at the height of playing this game, I was logging an embarrassing amount of playtime, but you don't see a golden draw like that too often.

You seem to discount the tuck cards - those are critical!

Man, that's actually it! I just watched the video and was lucky to get gull and raven withing the first 6 moves. I paired it with tucking and high bird cards just got 154 points.

We are going to go back and do the 110 challenge that we skipped over and we'll ban all the top cards like the Raven and the Killdeer from our hand. That way it will force another creative solution.

how to get 140+ point game... start the game by having two of the most broken cards in the game played by turn 2.. at that point its basically a given just got to play your birds to optimize your point values and to have the best possible prairie engine while having bonus card birds and Passive birds everywhere else.

If you click the playlist at the end of the video, we've assembled games that take you from breaking 100 all the way up to 148. There is a beginner strategy guide and a "nest" level one as well. We did the play by play analysis to help with this very question of how to push yourself to the next plateau. Hopefully this series is helpful. I have been playing for a while and with my famliy we played 100 games and my highest game is 132 with the Euopean exspansion pack i goth the Killdeer and 5 bouns cards

They are berries ! Not cherries...just my personal crusade . Everybody in my game group calls them cherries. Clearly the designer intended that icon to be interpreted as berries! 😂

I'm sure they are berries, but it's easy to see why they get confused. Maybe everyone in your game group is calling them that because they are trying to throw you off your game?

EOR scoring is NOT always correct. plenty of screen shots show EOR does not match final scoring which throws into question the whole game. Appears to be effected during ties. You should be calling out the BUGS
