Shane Murphy Wingsuit BASE Jumping 2010 - Adrenaline Geeks. It was a bad weather year so we didn't have as much fun as usual but here are a few lines I flew over in europe durring the season. I’ve probably watched this video 100 times over the past 3-4 years. The music and the flying are perfect. Probably my most favorite video on RU-vid. I can honestly say this video never gets old to me!!!

I really admire the courage one needs to gather in order to jump in a wingsuit for the first time, I doubt I'd be able to do that with such ease... Though I'd enjoy doing it at least once in my life... Really amazing work, and an amazing video that shows the beauty of wingsuit base jumping. Go adrenaline geeks!

Someone should try to land without a parachute in a wingsuit, just need a long field glide down so you build up speed, then pull up and skid across the grass.

Amazing stuff. Is that a slight tear (white spot) in your suit a few inches inboard from the left rear-wing snaps? Or just a a grommet/end of a seam stitch? I noticed it at 3:15

This is so beautiful, it goes far beyond watching a video of someone gliding trough the air in a wing suit. This goes to show how well adapted Humans are to the planet Earth. We cant fly and we certainly don't have wings, yet using our intelligence we learned how to soar trough the air as the birds do. Such a beautiful example of how life just goes on on this planet. A thousand years ago we could only dream of this; now can you imagine what the future holds? Life can be so beautiful.

one of the most scary things to do if you ask me... i skydive and i cant see me doing something like this, it just feels like you are too close to hit something at any given time.... kudos for you man, awesome flying

@KeblerK9091 Im on pain meds every day, i struggle to get myself out of bed, cant walk properly and i haven't been able to lift my kid since she was 3 months old. If you hurt yourself you WILL regret it.

Nice, but I don't get why all the sudden some many wingsuit vids that pop up have this horrendously BAD dubstep music. It makes my ears bleed! But nice lines though regardless of the sucky music :)

@UIUCPat you sure can control upward movement! By altering the angle at which your body hits the air, you can alter the angle by a certain amount, it all depends on your speed.

"A" license is what you get once you finish your basic course and complete your jumps. It means you can buy a parachute and start jumping on your own (pay-as-you go for each jump). There are all sorts of training pathways after you've got that basic license. Before going into advanced stuff like BASE or wing you are going to want to MASTER basic skydiving, safety procedures, etc. Which you can if you are dedicated, safe, and wise.

And as far as skills, your instructors will help you learn some mental tricks to deal with fear and harness it. Having a mature and calm attitude and the ability to focus under stress are important but one of the reasons many people enjoy skydiving is that it offers you the opportunity to develop those skills if you don't already have them, I would say that most people aren't born with those skills.

You need to get your "A" license (entry level) right now. Then you will be surrounded by people who can show you the way as you get a certain number of regular jumps (150-200 I think) before you can take wingsuit lessons. During this time you will build the skills and habits that are crucial to staying relatively safe while doing BASE or wingsuit. You'll also become part of the skydiving community. Get started now by finding a local DZ and doing your basic course. .

statistically skydiving is a really safe sport. most deaths occur by pilot error not by the equipment malfunctioning. base jumping is where much more deaths occur. most deaths from base jumping happens when the jumper hits what he or she is jumping from. before thinking about wingsuit jumping, go skydiving (tandem jumps) and see if you like it and are willing to jump hundreds of more times

In most base jumping locations, you wouldn't be ok technically. A few people have Base jumped without skydiving knowledge, and all of them say they regret the decision/are lucky to be alive. Most base jumping locations have narrow landing spots that require technical skill to land on. In others if you don't track right you'll die. To survive an off heading opening you need good canopy skills. You also need the right "nerves" to act right under pressure. So yes even technically, you need it.

Whoops looks like the link is down, just search for it on the website. Few realities of base jumping: - Expect to get hurt. - The danger is not so much in your parachute opening but in off heading openings where you may hit what you jumped off of. - You need the skydiving skills not just for mastering your canopy/tracking, but also to gain the nerves and reaction times needed to not panic under the insane pressure base jumping provides. - You will get hurt or seriously injured eventually.

@ty16080 Yeah then there's the training, and the time to find the training and then finding the location, travelling, etc... And it's not like you can jump off a cliff wearing one of these things... You'd have to train hard. all needs to be a hobby with plenty of time on your hands... I work full time and don't get paid enough to just leave and go do this for a bit... I'd be fucked after. Should be doing my AAF license this year - It's £1450 in the UK.

after the AFF course & u get your A license, if you have your own gear jumps at ramblers DZ are $42 each i have to pay for gear hire aswell which is another $42 so for me at the moment i pay about $84 a jump. im looking into buying my own gear and brand new gear is around $6000-$8000 u can get second hand gear for under $4000. skydiving is expensive ive spent around $5000 already and ive only got 32 jumps, but i own my own jumpsuit, helmet, alti & audible alti, all i need now is a parachute

hey mate no i dont BASE jump coz im still a student, being a student means you have finished the AFF course but dont have your A license, ive been a bit slack with learning how to pack a main canopy coz when i land i wanna jump again, once i can pack a main parachute i can apply for my A license because after the AFF course you have to do 10 jumps landing within 25metres of the target, and complete your A license manual, i jump at RAMBLERS Toogoolawah about an hour from brisbane

@HelpfulHow2s $34,000 is a bit of an exaggeration, but you will certainly spend >$900 earning your A-License (25 skydives) +175 jumps x $23 per ticket = $5,000 + skydiving gear (~$3,000) = $8,000 + Wingsuit (~$1,000) = $9,000 + BASE Rig (~$2,000) = $11,000. That would be just about the absolute cheapest you could get into WS BASE, and that doesn't include travel costs or any other expenses in building up your BASE experience before you take a wingsuit off of a cliff.

@dramirez081 hey mate i dont know what country u live in and the rules for skydiving but im a skydiver in Australia. i'm still a student ive completed the AFF course and have done 32 jumps, over here you can put a wingsuit on when you have your "D license" which is 200 jumps. so u dont need to spend over 30 grand to do wingsuiting, if you want to do proxy wingsuiting, im pretty sure its illegal here but first you need to get good at BASE jumping and people can start BASE jumping with A license

@TheDagga94 The Alps stretch through more countries than one. Most B.A.S.E jumpers are familiar with specific exit points for each area they go to, and tend to stick to these exit points due to the safeness of them. I'm not familiar with lots of exit points in the Alps and as such, it's possible these clips were filmed across different borders. Also, just noticed your username, SUP, DAG?

@crazybrity Unfortunately that is currently impossible due to gravity. However, Jeb Corliss (pro skydiver and BASE jumper) is working with an aerospace engineering company to hopefully one day land without a parachute. They are attempting to make an enormous ramp where he would match the angle of in his decent. He would then in theory slide down this ramp to the ground safely. Once this has been done he has stated he will debut it on the Las Vegas strip with the world watching.

No, he was trying to do a backflip on skis, then fly away in a wingsuit. He'd done the trick a lot of times before and didn't expect any trouble. But this time, he had a lot of trouble getting his skis off, and he'd been freefalling for 12 seconds by the time they were free. He didn't even have time to pull the parachute cord, and died at the scene.

there's no company out there that takes people to go fly like this. get your A license and get hundreds of skydives, get hundreds of base jumps, get experience with your wingsuit and then finally go to Switzerland and try this! base jumping of any kind is mostly illegal in the U.S. To get experience in base jumping, most of your jumps will be illegal base jumps.

after i go to college im going to travel around the world for a year and base jump, snowboard in the back country and land a backside rodeo, surf a 20 foot wave and get barreled. thats my ultimate plan to having the best year of my life... any suggestions? what else could I do to get the greatest adrenaline rush =p

@NorthForkFisherman hell if you cant avoid the bird, r trees you might as well kiss your ass goodbye because unless you crash into water and someone is standing there to rescue you (in which case your body would be severly damaged and you wouldnt be able to swim) you will be as you put it earlier, "like a bug hitting a windshield."

Its going to cost about $20K minimum to get to his level but I've only ever wanted to do this since I was like 5 flying in my backyard with hands stretched out chasing other kids..

So a question real quick: at around 2:58 you cut real close to a large formation while passing over it. Prior to jumping, have you done all the geometry and calculations to determine that you can in fact clear that structure with whatever run/drop ratios you're working with or is this more a matter of guts and glory?

Excuse me. I didn't mean to bother you but I am an aspiring base jumper and I was wondering what would I have to do to go about learning how to parachute. I've never skydived yet. And is sky diving harder than it looks? Is there any special skill that one might need to have...Thank you.

From what I have heard from other basejumpers, in order to be actually qualified to do this you need at least 200 skydives, and even more base jumping jumps (like off buildings and such, without a wingsuit) before you can even attempt to do something like this.

@R3VCarloz putting on some sort of wing while skydiving has been around since the 30s or so...but I think the modern era of wing-suit flying can probably be accredited to Patrick de Gayardon when he put on his spectacular shows and did stunts in his wing-suit back in '96 or '97.

Wow, this is so inspirational, I have only skydived once (Though it was a solo jump) and I desperately want to move out and live near the Ramblers drop zone in Esk/Toogoolahwah. My dream was to HALO but now I really want to wingsuit base jump off mountains. Breath taking!

Just google this stuff and contact the closest skydiving/parachute center. A license is your basic certification that you get after about a week's worth of classes and jumps. After you get it, you can buy your own chute and jump rather cheaply.

Has anyone here ever seen any of the Dan Osman videos? His sports were a little different but he was just as gutsy. As a matter of fact, he's dead now because he put too much faith in his equipment. He had balls of steel and was also a great athlete.

start to learn skydiving at a dropzone in your country. Then make at least 200 jumps and then learn to jump with wingsuits out of a plane. Then start to do many basejumps and then you can start with wingsuit basejumping :) on your own risk

@WumbeliBombeli this is one of those things were you kinda just gotta go for it. but you can start by sky diving while your attached to and instructor who pulls the parachute. then try it by yourself. then if you feel comfortable free-falling you can try this

i really dont know much about this. but ive seen alot of videos of this and im kinda wondering why they choose to fly along the sides of mountains instead of straight away from it. does it have something to do with minimizing the wind?

@dhsnowbordlife7 The way they go about it is quite safe. these guys have done hundreds of skydives/BASE jumps. And now these wingsuits are incerridble some can slow your fall rate to 45mph. While flying foward at over 110mph. ONE mistake and you are dean tho.

Do you have any control over upward movement at all? In some moments it looks like you're headed in the direction of a wall, but you manage to get over it safely. Do you just determine in advance "yes I can make it over that" and decide to commit to it?

RIP Shane Murphy. I used to work for Shane when he owned his mortgage company. He was an inspiration for me getting skydive certified. "Everybody dies but not everybody lives." Shane lived the fuck out of life.

@conz078 $1,200 to become skydive certified; roughly $1,000 for wingsuit; $2,000 for a parachute; $500 for helmet, cameras, gloves, etc. Just under $5,000 in all. So the choice is yours: buy a used car, or do this.

Awesome, but flying between the threes @3:20 was just reckless. What happens when you get a wind? It's enough you just touch one of the trees to decrease your speed, and then your seriously injured.

@ColdeyLive I think its mostly for bugs....A bug hitting you're face at 130mph would really tickle. Also maybe for a situation where the parachute didnt fully deploy. Gotta protect the dome

@Missin187 You'd start off with skydiving, get hooked on that, work on your skills, when you're ready find a mentor to move on to base jumping, and move on from there. Its a LOT of work
