The winix zero which is the uk equivalent of 5300/2 comes with 4 carbon sheets which you change every 3 months. This in my experience outlasts a single pellet based filter which visibly fails to trap smoke after 3 months.

Love ours. We live in the desert in an extremely dry climate. So we have to run a humidifier in our large bedroom so we don't turn into dried out husks at night. The humidifier puts out a lot of mineral dust, and the Winix does a good job of reducing this. Not 100% but enough so that we don't wake up coughing from breathing in mineral dust all night.

Does the plazma thing produce ozone? Their website says no but some reviews on Amazon state otherwise (plus it keeps coming on after each power on and can't be disabled for good)

Got it from Amazon with 3 years warranty but I requested replacement because my unit when the fan set on 3 is shaking. The rotor thing is not balanced well and I hope the new one will be fine because it's a good purifier but planning on using it for many years I want it working fine on all settings

The 5300-2. It offers almost double the CFM (output) at close to the same price.

The plasmawave technology should not be used. Just so you know I have equipment that detects ozone levels and while I really love this unit unfortunately it does put out a considerable amount of ozone if you use that feature. But don't let this turn you away from this unit because it is a very good air filtration system especially if you have a lot of dust and particles in your home. This would be ideal for older folks who can't do full house cleaning chores as they used to. If you have pets I recommend the 5500 for odor reduction as well as pet dander.

Quick question, Do I have to change the filter within 3-6 months or can I just clean all of those filter? And if I do need to change it do you recommend a site I can buy it from? My girlfriend has asthma and I would be really glad if this would help her breathe a little bit easier. Thanks for reading my comment.

The HEPA and carbon filters need to be replaced. Only the pre-filter is not replaced - it can be vacuumed/washed. I recommend setting a price alert for replacement filters so you can buy them when they're at their absolute cheapest. Amazon is the retailer I usually recommend.

Unfortunately, no. The filters are not interchangeable.

I live in an apt built in 1975. I buy the expensive filters at target but my apt is still dusty and my son always has a runny nose and itchy ears. Doctor said that's related to dust allergies. Will buying this unit help at all? Is this unit to be used paired with my AC? I mean, will this just clean the air or cool the apt too?

Yes, an air purifier will absolutely work as long as you use it correctly - i.e. for this particular model I would not recommend using it in a space larger than 300 sq. ft. If you use it in a bedroom, close the door to seal the room off from the rest of the home. Running the AC will introduce particles into the room (despite closing the door) but the air purifier should be able to keep up with these new particles as long as it's used in a space smaller than 300 sq. ft. Air purifiers do not cool the air.

I wonder if you can fit the 5500-2 carbon filter into this model? In Europe, we have the more or less same model named Winix Zero and it comes with carbon filter like in 5300-2.

Unfortunately, you cannot. If you want the 5500-2 carbon filter I recommend the Zero Pro.

@@consumer-analysis It seems I am going to buy Zero Pro as you suggested. However, there is one very annoying thing. They introduced the model as ZERO+ in Europe and then they changed the name to Zero Pro and they removed the WIFI! So there is no smart function which irritates me quite a lot. I would love to control the product remotely and to check the air quality values inside. That is quite outrageous and cutting a function from the model and selling it with the same price is cheating customers only.

No. It won't cool the air and can't be used as a fan as the cleaned processed air exhausts upwards.

@@consumer-analysis I appreciate that you have said the pellet fillter from the 5500 doesn't fit the 5300, but could you expand on that please. In what way does it not fit? Too big, small, thick ect. I ask as the 5500 dosn't seem to be available in the UK.
