Going to do something like this on my Micro Minnie black tank to remove the sag which prevents it from completely draining when cleaning/flushing. Thanks for sharing.
Nice Videoing, did this yrs ago on my 2001 Coachman 5th wheel which I still own. I noticed that the manufacturers don't use wire looms anymore like they did on mine. Its a shame they just lay the wires any where, not secured.
Nice creative job! Sad one of the biggest Rv Mfg intentionally builds trailer that will eventually fail carrying a mere 31 gal water. My MH (Gulfstream, I know not same) carries 100-gal water, 150-gal diesel, crisscrossed US many times no issue. We're considering the Winne 2024 model 2108 FBT, same trl with twin beds. Have they addressed issue? Would imagine full gray tanks built same. Thanks again for your detailed insight.
They have not changed a thing. I'd also note...any changes to the rig like these are excuses they use to void the warranty if you buy new. Recently when I was questioning them on an issue, they told me the warranty would have been voided by them anyway if I were the original owner because I made mods. When I pressed them on it, they said because I had the bike rack on the back...in the factory installed reese hitch sleeve. When I told them the weight of the rack and bikes was under the stated load on the mount by over 50% they we're silent...and never answered any further emails.
Larry, in 2015 the 2101DS had 43 gallons of fresh water plus the 6 gallon water heater...as did all the other 2101 models. 2201, 2351 and 2451s too. I was sorry to see Winnebago go backwards to 31.
Nice job. Many brands have insufficient support under the tanks. I had a 5th wheel that had 2 pieces of angle iron and osb (bent and cracked). Went to plywood and 11ga 2” square tubing from I beam to I beam and added rigid foam insulation. Most recent travel trailer I ran 1x2” C channel under the underbelly from frame rail to frame rail, as the bottom of the tank is comes to the bottom of the frame.
Thanks for the video. Our FLX has been visiting our dealer (2 months this week). When it comes back I know I have to do this, I just hate the idea of cutting into the underbelly, uggg! This helps encourage me. Thanks
Same here. It's one of those things...once it's cut into the stress melts away and you can then get after it. 🙂 I may try to find small pieces of the material used and then cut pieces a little larger than the holes I cut to then screw over the now existing holes.
Makes sense but some tank manufacturers use only the top of the tank to mount. They specifically say not to mount straps/ brackets underneath??? I would do the same thing you did. Just something I ran into while reading the mounting instructions for an additional tank in mine. :)
I'm not sure where you'd attach the ratchet straps. It may work. The aluminum is so thin down there, I'd personally be concerned about malforming the supports when ratcheted and that with time, they may wear and fray, weakening them some. But that's just my initial thought.
