Great Video. I actually had the same thing happen with a Land Rover that I bought. I lost my shirt on it, sold it without a title. I wish that this video had existed before I went through that process. THis video made me notice that I got about 4/6 of the way through.

Thanks to you now imma get to work again on this title. Btw the Escalade is from Georgia but some how ended up in Colorado. So i hope the process is the Same and pray that no Lien is on it.!!!

I happen to live in Charlotte, NC so this video is definitely helpful. In my situation I bought a 71 Chevy impala in SC from someone who had the title to the car but it was in his mothers name and she is deceased and he just wanted to sale it but didn’t want to do process of putting it in his name before selling it. Plus the title had split in half from being folded for so long over time so I’m thinking this maybe my only option.

Hey guys if its an out of state vehicle you will Also have to get a title record search from the state it last came from as well as the colorado title lien record search thing. One extra step....

Thanks Bad Hombre Garage! I bought an 01 lexus is300 with a "jumped/void" title, and I also got paperwork of the owner before the guy i bought it from. Who was going through the "bonded title " process but he only got about half way through before falling out. It took a little time and more money than you to get it all solved/payed for. But now that I know what to do its really not that hard or expensive to accomplish. Just very odd and confusing wording or answers from the websites/govt. Again thanks man, had to watch your vid 30 times to be sure i was on the right track, but it helped me! Ill post a vid soon on my page of my experience

Great video, and in a similar situation. I'm actually down in Pueblo County and recently bought a 1948 Willys CJ2 project from an Estate with clean VIN tag. No title, not running, current tags on it showed 1969......it's a project. I have bill of sale, though. Can i do anything with it as far as getting a title in it's current state being not roadworthy? I expect this to be a project over the next couple years, but don't want any issues coming up after spending time on it, or have it appraised higher than what I purchased for. I just want it in my name for now. Thoughts?

I've read you don't need a surety bond for a vehicle over 25 years old. I'm trying to do this same process on an old '82 vehicle.. Do I just go through the same procedure and skip that step? If I am able to get ahold of the last owners can I just ask them to get a duplicate title? It's been in a junkyard for 30 years.

Adams County Office at 124th and Hwy 2 will do a VIN inspection. They ask for an appointment however they do not answer their phone so I went there in person. They asked if I had an appointment and I advised they automatically put me on hold, then after 20 minutes I get kicked out. Hmmm, ok, let's do a verification. No one was waiting for one. Just a person standing around and giving the public a bad time. No problem after that process was completed. I had to do a VIN verification as the car was purchased out of state.

It seems either dmv has changed the process or my memory has faded some... Anyhow, how did you get the vehicle to State Patrol for VIN Inspection without licence plates/temp tag? And to the dealer for appraisal for that matter??

Hi i have a question about sending the letter to the last owner how much detail has to go into the letter i bought a car from a man who bought it from a tow company and didnt put it in his name first and sold it to me with just the tow slip in his name so im going thru the bond process but am stuck on what i should write to the last owner

I went to the dealership and they gave me an appraisal and put it on their company letterhead, but did not put the dealership license Number. Is it sufficient with the letterhead or does it absolutely have to have the dealership license number on there? Thanks

I bought a 2005 gmc yukon slt back in 2020 and the guy crossed out a name on the title i put about 10k in to the truck that includes the price on what i paid for it went and got it to emissions passed with flying colors when to get the title put in my name but they wouldn't do it because of the crossed out name but when you pull up the registration its in my name i watched you video a while back got the dealer to do some of it they sighned some of the paperwork but it makes no sense why the dmv would let me register it but wouldnt give me plates i had to stop driving it because i kept getting pulled over do i need to start the process all over again?!

So if the certified letter comes back because the title holder is no longer at that address what then do you send it to them showing it got returned or would you have to track them down to find a new address and start over again with a new certified letter?

Where do I mail the paper after I fill it out and do I also provide a copy of the VIN inspection form with the 2489a?

Hey Bad hombre. Im in this situation. Have a truck with a engine with no carb or starter. Was wondering if you have to start it up to be considered road worthy? Didnt want to dump money into it until I at least recieved a bonded title. Would I screw myself getting a vin check with it not being "road worthy"?

I did a bonded title on a motorcycle, I learned the process throughly and down pat. It was my first bike and got it from my neighbor super cheap, it was crashed, long story here, he moved several states away, kept saying he'd get me the title, he was a over the road truck driver, gone most the time, he got home one day and his girlfriend burned all his stuff (and my title), Then ofcourse my luck he disappeared on me. I will tell you if you want to this, you better really want the motor vehicle bad, like really want it. Took me almost 11 months, 150$ for the bond(10 cents on the dollar) then I had to buy new tires, battery, all the parts to make it road worthy because you need to go in for a state patrol vin and vehicle inspection( vehicle hauled on a trailer ). Then ofcourse you have a fairly large pack of papers to fill out and learn about, send all of that packet in the mail CERTIFIED TO THE LAST LEGAL OWNER, and it must come back to you undeliverable (took about a month or more to make it back to me and the last legal owner in my case was my old next door neighbor from a year before(I was mailing it next door lol).. keep in mind that the last owner has a chance to take back the vehicle during and up to I think 3 or 4 years even after you get your bonded title. So make sure if you do this that your are rightfully doing so. I might have left out some little things and the order of a couple processes but this guy in the vid fully explains it well, watch it. I'm just telling my real life story. I did get my colorado title after that 11 months approximately, I will say even though I was lawfully doing it, i was scared i was going to lose all the money i had put into that bike the whole process (about 1,500$) because if the last owner wanted to be a d#ck or the state just says no I would have been screwed. Well anyways, I loved that bike, put more work and money into it, road it for 7 years then sold it with no issues. Told myself I'd never do it again..mainly because the part in my state where it had to be road worthy..that's alot of money in an old fixer upper to put in on a gamble like a bonded title. If I remember right you can also have the bonded" word removed from the title after a few years or so. Not that that word on the title really madders.

I got a State Trooper to run the vin. on my 1930 Model A. It did not come back being stolen. When he had to put down what color it is he said Rust. I said but isn't Rust Brown.? He said no I'm going with Rust. I said o.k. Am I gonna argue with a man with a gun , pepper spay and who knows what else ,No I'm Not gonna.
