Not sure if I asked you..have you guys been to Econfina Creek (& springs)? Between Tally & PC. Apparently, there’s now a public park there. Still blows me away how commercialized these places have become. Talked to an old friend about Running (Luraville, down from Peacock) and cried when I saw some recent pics of the smaller, but deeper one. He said local kids were using it as a trash dump…SAY WHAT?!? FULL of algae and unnatural plants. Our shallow “hot tub” right next to it is doing better..but looks strange now that the natural “bridge” is gone & it goes right into the river. We called it our hot tub bc in Jan-Feb, camping on the “beach”, would sit and soak in the “steaming” spring. My eldest was actually conceived there one VERY rare, SNOWY March 1. Getting back to Econfina..on the way there from Tally, if you take Hwy 20 West, there’s an actual “tropical Bog” on the left side of the Hwy. It’s not marked, but if you know anyone in forestry in that area, or someone educated in ecosystems in Fl..it’s the only one in the State..it is FILLED with rare and endangered carnivorous plants! I used to go there in the winter and take my kids for an interesting lesson in ecosystems, botany, even critters because, as long as it’s chilly, no worry about the snakes. In the MANY times we went, never saw a single gator…my dear old friend who first took us there (she was a professor in biology, botany, environmental science & ecosystems at FSU & FAMU), was investigating WHY we never saw any gators there, considering the environment. Wish I’d kept up with it…maybe they don’t like all the bugs? Naah..it’s Florida..🤷🏼‍♀️😂. My precious late son snuck an endangered Pitcher Plant out one day..I went ballistic, he’d pulled the whole thing out of the muck and put it in his coat. We TRIED to save it..made a miniature bog on a table in the kitchen, put Venus fly traps, those other small, almost flat looking carnivorous plants, and the pitcher plant in the middle. We lived up north of Tally on the Fl-Ga boarder on 14acres, (not far from the Ochlocknee River, up on, what we were told, was the highest geographical point in the state, you could see Gadsden County, Leon & Georgia from our front yard…dang I miss that place. My well was over 450ft! ), LOTS of bugs! My Son overfed the Pitcher Plant and even my friend couldn’t save it. She and her husband (another professor), attended the “Funeral”. I had co-founded a wildlife rescue & rehab..I think I mentioned the squirrel’s, some that we released at Ginnie..among other places. But we always had a menagerie of critters, and, unfortunately, some didn’t make it. So we had a pet cemetery on our land, underneath a huge, beautiful long-leaf pine (that had 6-12in pine cones!). When my son passed suddenly last year, the girls took some of his ashes to spread in some of his favorite places..including our old place. They asked the folks who own the part of our land if they could do it under his first Christmas tree..that’s still there..and sheepishly asked about the pet cemetery. They not only knew about it, but had kept it up and, basically, it had become a neighborhood pet cemetery. (My land had been split up into about 6 lots after my ex..nevermind. My daughters called and FaceTimed me as they did it, both crying and laughing..as the new owners looked on puzzled as they named the Pitcher Plant, Venus Fly traps, black widow Charlotte and some of her babies, Cicadas and green slimy tree frogs..buried with the other critters..and how CJ must be thrilled and crying with us knowing a part of him will forever be with some of his favorite…”friends”. 🥰 Speaking of my wonderful boy..I shared your videos with some of his good friends in China..and they flooded me with INCREDIBLE photos of springs in China! Unfortunately, most don’t allow swimming, tubing or diving because they are a big part of a spring conservation project..but, the parks, ancient bridges, Chinese pagodas..have become VERY well-known tourist spots in recent years. Picture a larger Rock Springs with beautiful lotuses around the edges, surrounded by mountains. There ARE some that people swim & boat in, they call them “hidden springs”. I have one picture a friend sent of a spring South of Kanding, at the foot of the Himalayas in Tibet. It has an ancient arched Bridge, crystal clear turquoise water..absolutely breathtaking with snow capped mountains in the background. IF you’ve read this far..I saw Mo is a painter. I’ve been trying to learn traditional Chinese painting for about 6years and my best friend is a professional western artist. After my son died, I got back into it, with renewed zest and a purpose. CJ’s legacy, besides his love for strange creatures; was teaching others about different cultures and bringing people together. He and a group of Chinese and Nepalese friends had traveled the world installing free solar panels to very impoverished villages, in exchange for local handicrafts that they taught locals how to sell online. My eldest, my best friend and I are trying to carry on a piece of his legacy by combining East and west painting techniques, supplies and subjects. Although it appears that Mo works with acrylics..I’m hoping he might have suggestions for watercolor… we are TRYING to paint both the springs in Florida..and I’ve sketched out that Chinese spring with the bridge & mountains..but we are at a bit of a loss on how to show that water..the Chinese spring, although crystal clear up close, fades to a turquoise as you get farther away bc of natural minerals. Any ideas? THANKS!!

By the way, just so you know..I had subbed to you before..went looking for your channel after my eldest and I were talking about the springs..somehow I was unsubbed. It seems to be happening to a LOT of folks, unfortunately. 2 of my sons good friends in China had a vlog on YT, not a single word of politics or geopolitical matters; they drove their RV around China visiting remote villages, filming, and me and my first tutor, another good friend, translated into English. They had over 200k subs when they started disappearing, their views went down by 75%, then videos started disappearing. One day they found both of their channels were deleted and they were accused of being “propaganda”. Like I said, they never said a word about ANYTHING controversial, their channel was similar to yours except they also would talk to locals..but, last I checked, I wasn’t aware that roaming elephants and hearing locals funny stories about waking up to a small pack of elephants eating plants from their garden outside their kitchen window..isn’t exactly political. My daughter thinks it was just because Xiaowei’s husband, Aaron, happened to be Uyghur..but we deleted ANY comments, pro or con, having to deal with anything political. I don’t know what is going on, but I hope they aren’t targeting you guys. I prefer to watch videos like yours, or my painting videos..but even my Chinese tutor, who has lived and taught in Brussels all of her adult life, NEVER gets political, always just about painting..they deleted most of her teaching videos and wouldn’t tell her why, just that..painting my kitty, a fall scene from Brussels and a bird in a cherry tree..”violated the terms of service”. Go figure…

Hi!!! So sorry for the delay. I was doing some storm coverage for Hurricane Nicole. I love your stories so much. You are one with nature for sure! I have not been to Ecofina yet, but it’s definitely on my list. You really made me chuckle and smile talking about the “Pet Cemetery.” I could picture your children going back trying to explain to the new owners. I love it. I need names of the springs in China. I’ve traveled to Beijing before but I’d love to go back and do more “nature” stuff. Springs and lotus!!! Yes plzzzzz! Mo seems a bit stumped on which paint to use. Have you tried acrylics? Either way, Mo says try mixing various colors of blue. From very very light, to dark blue. Almost black. He says it should help add some contrast in the water. Let us know how it goes 💙💙💙
