Welcome to our winter backyard chicken coop! Up here in the snowy mountains! My chickens handle Wyoming winters like PROS! They truly are hardy animals, with down feather coats. We always say, " Chickens can handle the cold, it's the heat they can't handle."
There are a few things you should know to have a functional and healthy chicken coop in the winter.
If you live in a colder climate with temperatures that go way below freezing, you should make sure to get cold hardy chickens!
My Breeds this year:
Buff Orpington (Golden Color)
Sapphire Olive Eggers (Silver Color-lay green eggs)
Rhode Island Red (Dark Red color) - We have done this one every year.
Americana (This is our first time with this breed. She seems to be doing great! Known for blue or pink eggs)
