Here in England we don't have that kind of snow that you have, I live in the south near London so we don't have that much!!! It's great watching you guys having fun, that's cool..
Gots me a similar 🚌 Isuzu 4x4 with really good snow tires. Can go up and down really steep snow covered roads without chains. I hate the cold though, so I dont sleep in it in winter. Glad you showed us that it can be done..without complaining about the cold!
I really like the honest love for vw you all have. I have a 73 911 with a vw turbo motor that I love. I have been building buses and old Porsche my whole life and seeing these videos make me excited to know others are excited about vw as mich as me. Keep it up! I wish I was on West Coast. Im in Providence RI..
Great adventure we don't get that lovely weather here in Britain. A few flakes of snow here and every one wets them selfs. I love being out in the extreme weather properly tooled up can't beat it. That's what life's all about.
I kinda want to see a syncro with tracks on all 4 corners. That would be bad ass. I know used to blow people's minds with the places I could, would and did take my 71 bay window pop top. Lmao. I took my 76 westy up to within a mile of the summit of Mt Antero in Colorado back in 2003. People were absolutely freaking out in terror as we drove up. 🤣🤣🤣
How good are these ! I drove one all over the alps from France to Switzerland without chains, still made it... and what's better than waking up with below zeros in your van the next day waiting for your heater before you can leave bedcovers.
Flippen far out you all took the cake! Excellent information an full fun packed adventure thanks fellers. Those vans are exactly what I need. Happy trails
I got a Ford Freda 2.5d, 4 x 4 (which is basically a Mazda Bongo ,a pop top van with I believe the same motor they used to fit in the Ford Ranger back in the 90's) running Cooper Discovery AT3's in the UK ,and the one day we had snow I just had to go out to test it out and it was awesome ,plenty of grip . Coopers are a lot cheaper than BFG's ,maybe not as aggressive tread wise but do a cracking job on and off road. Happy trails campers.
Really well done video, well edited and interesting. Thanks! I'm a Canadian living in Australia and can see the great attraction you have for these adventures reminiscent of our childhood snow forts. Very hip, I'll be touring your way in a van I'm picking up in Calgary next month. May catch up when I'm near you.
That is so cool guys....u guys need to come over to Minnesota this winter......we don't have that amount of snow u have on Mount Baker.....but we can reach-30 below in January.....I'll supply the ribs!!!!
Big fun! I'm one of these crazy people who love to go out in a snow storm to kinda the limits of whatever I'm driving. Love it! Just wondering how you all stayed warm overnight! I'm freezing just watching! Thanks for sharing the journey! God bless!
Did you guys have any snow experience prior to this? I live in Colorado, but in 1967/8 my dad worked for Boeing. We lived in Marysville, my folks had a 1958 vw bug convertable and a1967 square window van. We drove up the Mount Baker road in two wheel drive, sometimes with chains. I do know Mout Baker gets serious snow, wet snow and can be difficult. Going up, if you had decent All Terraiin tires, you should not have needed chains at all. My Audi A4 quattro pulls me thru deeper than the evening driving shots. With street all season tires it does well until about 8"depth where it starts pushing snow. In fact, the chains probably compromised the tires as chains or cables lift the rubber off the paving and are in fact more slippery than tire contact. With your vanagans, you probably needed chains to get out. Having said that, my '95 Ford F-350 crew cab 4x4 could have driven out of that short distance easily without chains. I have years of experience driving to ski areas and deep snow in back country Colorado to back my comments. My truck can also haul a very comfortable winter pop-up camper that has as much room as the vans, plus I can take the camper off when not using it. Of course my truck has more clearance, more torque and horsepower. We also beach camp at Lake McConnaughy in Nebraska in the summer so I also drive in very challenging sand environments with my truck. (Not the car.) Also, believe me, I have been seriously stuck off-road, there are limits to any vehicle. I'm not meaning to rag on you too much. I am certain you had a great adventure. I would have gone with you and had fun. That's the point. I also love VWs and my dad still has his '58 bug. My issue is you claim there isn't any other vehicle that can do what the vans are doing when in reality, I can think of a number of vehicles that could do that adventure pretty well. Take care. Geoff
Dude, you are F"amazing this video is awesome I like the footage of that snowing backdrop its really cool I'm so envious of your area lots of fun guys and be safe after watching the video I decided to subscribe to your channel and liked it
Westfalia Vdubs are amazing rigs. My dad had a regular Vanagon when I was a kid so I have a warm and fuzzy for these. Didn't love the heater though, not so warm and fuzzy lol but this is Alaska... Honestly though if I was going to go the van route, I would go Chevy Astro. Still running my 93 with 260k and all original. AWD, nice powerful engine, bullet proof proven drivetrain, respectable mileage, and inexpensive to maintain. Oh yes I forgot, heaters that make it like the tropics! I know I know, its a Volkswagen thing! Totally respect and get that. Just I feel for my wants and wishes the Astro kicks butt!! Love the videos, Love the Fun. Keep going and thanks for sharing with us!!!
I realize after reading my post that it sounds weird I would say "going the van route" given I have a couple.......... should have said "going the camping/exploring van route"...sorry just wanted to clarify. As my wife would say, Ima Dork!
Thanks for the awesome comment! YES! I have heard lots of great things about the Astro vans. Have also seen lots of really cool things done with them as well. Having the pop top on the astro vans would make for awesomeness as well.
I have no interest in vans... however the trouble you guys went through to film all this in the cold snow deserves a subscribe!!! It was great to watch!
I can’t believe how expensive these vans are I looked. Pretty cool stuff man love your videos keep them coming I really like the break from the political stuff and this and that. good clean fun
Daryl Dixon's little brother where have you been..Gotta love the TWD. These vans are the bomb looked like a lot of fun ..Keep up the good work and thanks for taking us along with y'all..When's the next adventure😍😄
Thanks Debbie! We are working on bringing more over to ya! Have you subscribed to our other channel yet? Adventures Unknown? We have more videos there as well.
Going to real bad weather I would say you'd need following: Gun oil (for oiling/defrosting locks), applying some anti-freeze to all door seals. The green anti-freeze works perfect, I don't know about how "healthy" it is though, some ice scrapes, snow brush (or combination of them), Some startup cables or battery booster, Extra warm clothes (like a fur suit) just in case. Also one luxury thing would be a Webasto or Eberspächer. Installing it with a separate AGM battery and you can run the heater all night long without drained main battery. I think I also missed something.. oh and changing the oils and all the filters before going to extreme cold is a must, especially the fuel filter, which tends to freeze.
