During our Kangchenjunga Circuit Trek Chandi and I were snowed in the picturesque village of Ghunsa. The blizzard turned it into a Himalayan Winter Wonderland, so come explore it together with us!
Ghunsa is part of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, a protected region known for its diverse flora and fauna. It's famous for its stunning natural scenery, including snow-capped peaks, lush forests, and pristine rivers.
The town is a common stop for trekkers on the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, which is one of the more challenging and less crowded treks in Nepal. The village serves as an acclimatization point for hikers and climbers heading to higher altitudes.
Gunsa is home to the Sherpa and Limbu communities, among others. These communities have rich cultural traditions and are known for their hospitality. Visitors can experience local culture, traditional architecture, and way of life.
The surrounding Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is a biodiversity hotspot, home to species like the snow leopard, red panda, and Himalayan black bear. Conservation efforts in the area aim to protect the natural environment and promote sustainable tourism. The climate in Ghunsa varies with the seasons, with cold winters and mild summers. The best times to visit are typically in the spring (April-May) and autumn (October-November), when the weather is more stable and clear.
