Welcome To Survival-Russia. One of the very best Outdoors and Survival related communities on RU-vid, and yes, It's a pretty good Channel too.
My name is Lars. I'm From Denmark but I live in Rural Russia now. I live at a Homestead in wild nature surrounded by a huge forest.
On The Survival-Russia channel we do all things related to the Outdoors Lifestyle. I share my thoughts and experiences on Survival Techniques for the woodlands of the Northern Hemisphere. the Reality of Survival. I share Techniques and ways of the Siberian Tribesmen and the Russian Longhunters of the older days. Things not shown outside of Russia very much.
On this Channel we also do Off-Road driving, Vehicle builds, Metal Detecting, all things Outdoors basically. Enjoy!

Great tents and stoves nearby (Canada), thanks! The Trusteeship (IMID). A lot of our fish have grubs and there's mercury in the water resulting from the incineration of batteries, which can also be a hazard (stumbling around isn't always a result of vodka)!

I’ve done a lot of ice fishing. Not allowed nets here, so all by line. We’d catch pike, bass, even some lake trout, and lots of perch. It’s a lot of fun to see all those teeth on a pike coming up through that little hole. We did it as a past time on nice winter days. It’s not super exciting, unless you get some really good fish. So I understand your lack of enthusiasm for this little river. I haven’t done it in years, but am thinking about doing it a bit again. Gotta stay safe though. I went through the ice once, and was fortunate enough to be ready, so when the ice broke I had time to react and roll away. Still got soaked to my waist. Pants froze by the time I got to the cabin and couldn’t walk up the stairs. Coulda died under the ice though, so it wasn’t too bad.

As a 12yr old kid a friend from basketball and I basically stopped training because we went fishing almost every single morning during summer. There we would come across lots of old guys with almost an identical story. They married young, just to get married with a woman they didn't really like, had kids just to have kids, worked for 40 years, staying really busy and not being at home. Now, in retirement, the only escape from nagging at home (for most) is alcohol and fishing. Kinda sad, but that's life. Marry someone you'll want to take on a fishing trip, not someone you want to escape from!

I did a fair bit of ice fishing when I was younger. Mostly on local Farm ponds and borrow pits. Usually caught panfish . Used a fishing rig very similar to what you used with beamoth larvae for bait. Sometimes we use an automatic Pole that was basically a spring-loaded little fishing pole with a adjustable trigger. One of our neighbors had the best setup he had a homemade two level sled that he pulled onto the ice the taller seat portion had a Coleman lantern underneath for warmth and the front portion had a hinged lid for fishing supplies and a small bottle of liquid warmth ;)

Whenever I see a fire started outdoors I have to laugh. A survivalist I've watched for many years said that if you're in a survival situation and need to start a fire, the absolute best way to go about it is with a lighter. He's a sensible man. I lived in the woods for four months, out of necessity, and I bought twenty lighters with me. I had lots of problems, but lighting a fire wasn't one of them. 😁
