Your dog is like some of my old camping buddy's! He shows up and expects you to feed him, he doesn't help collect firewood, and he scares all the game away! I bet he drinks beer too!!

She is a musician, loves being outdoors, can use the 30-06 bolt action. Knows how to build shelters and use knives, hatchet and saws. Knows how to make field candles. Spends money on quality pack boots, clothing and gear and can cook. I got more respect for her then most people I hunt with! Someone should send her parents an award for a broad education in nature and self reliance. Besides, she likes dogs and wears Realtree Extra camo. It's like the best makup a person could have. :)
@WizzRacing
@WizzRacing 10 лет назад
You're welcome and you and your parents should feel good about it. Your fathers choice in weapons shows he understands the 30-06 and how versatile it is. Teddy Roosevelt once said it could take any game on the planet, short of the five most dangerous in Africa and even then would work in a pinch if needed on them. I once tried to shoot a prairie chicken with one using 55 grain accelerator in light rain at 430 yards. It evaporated like a comet. I don't even think the bird noticed or I, as I was amazed what I just witnessed. My new favorite of the year is the Browning BLR 7mm WSM take down with open sights.

awesome video:) just a small tip when you are trying to get a flame with some charred material like that, try holding the birds nest above your head and then blow into it. This way the heat will go upwards into your birds nest and the smoke wont sufficate your fire (and the smoke doesnt get in your eyes which is a big plus)

The boots are called Sorels. They are designed on the Mukluks or winter boots that the Inuit people have worn for hundreds of years in the Arctic. Mukluks were originally made with Seal Skin and leather. Today, they have rubber bottoms, but the top is made of canvas and goes all the way to the knee. The boots you bought will last you for years, Lily. Stay warm.

Lilly, I'm from the United States of America here is something you can do to help make fire starting materials. Take a cotton ball, pull it apart like you would if you are going to use it as tender. Coat it with pure petroleum jelly such as Vasoline. Using this formula make up 10-20 of these Greased Cotton Balls put them in a plastic resealable bag and put them in your pack. (They will light even when wet.)

This chick just rocks. Even tho' she's way more advanced than I'll ever be she teaches at a level that's good for beginners like me & my Aunt Bonnie. I also that, (just like one of my other favorite survivalists, Les Stroud), she doesn't edit out things that go wrong. She's up front about it & teaches you to have a plan B. In survival situations things usually DON'T go as planned. That's how you ended up in the shit in the first place. If you're not prepared to deal with things not working "like you saw it on RU-vid" you're screwed.

@williammawk1720
@williammawk1720 7 лет назад
yes, It is an extremely excellent caliber. It came from the Springfield 1903-A3 the U.S. military first designed in 1903 and was called a 30-03 then in 1906 it was modified a little and was changed to the 30-06. The military designation was the 30 U.S, Govt. Its design was derived from the German K-98 Mauser.

Hello Lilly. Have you ever thought of using a blow pipe for your fire tools? It is simple to make, get half inch copper tubing with a cap, Drill a hole in the cap end and blow into the fire as in a forge.

i don't remember how I bumped into this channel, but, as a suburban couch potato, I find the pace very relaxing to watch after work and the antics of Dax, the wonder digger dog charming and funny. However, I was always skeptical about these survival "skills"... until I tried them myself. I decided to stop at Walmart and pick up some kit and tried to do some of these basic tasks at my fireplace hearth. I had some oak firewood and some birch twigs, a knife, and a magnesium firesteel thing. I barely got past making some kindling by batoning the knife through a log. I did manage to peel a little birch bark off the twigs. My hands have blisters and my fingers are all scratched and raw. I think I need to learn how to sharpen the knife... and use some gloves. So regardless of how realistic these situations are, there is value in the lessons she teaches and the simplicity and peacefulness of her presentation. At least for us absolute novices. Funny, her dad's gun is 30-06 and my dad's is 6.5x55 Swedish. I think I will join a range and take some shooting lessons. We don't have boar in Wisconsin, but there are plenty of coyotes and whitetails.

I am two hours away in each direction from the Colorado Rocky Mountains, The Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming and the Black Hills of South Dakota

Your father is a very wise man, both in his choice of arms & how he has educated you. It is so hard to find a lady in Bushcraft with your depth of experience. Your father had something to do with that. As I said before I have a daughter & I hope to help her love the outdoors too. I also use a 30-06 which we call an "06" Once again I have to say, you & your dog are welcome in my forest anytime. I like your videos and find them informative. I would like to add a bit of advice. Carry a piece of plastic tubing to concentrate your blowing on an ember to get it going. It would be very helpful also when using fire to make articles such as the wooden spoon you made here. This could be of a size to put a firesteel in,like a cover. It doesn't weigh hardly anything and now that I've told you about it I'm sure you will find many uses for having some in your bag. Be well,namaste.
