We received our new RVMattress last week and love it. The original 6-inch Serta Foam mattress was nice for weekend trips, but now that we are fully retired and going on longer trips--the BB Hybrid Signature mattress is better than our house bed! RVMattress offers a 25% for military retirees too!

I have a heated mattress pad, I know it's similar to a heated blanket but I like it more because your body is on top of the heat.

I agree! We have one with separate controls so my wife and I can set it to the temp we prefer. Actually, we usually just use it to warm up the bed before we get in under multiple layers of blankets and such.

We cut foam board and put in the back of the cabinets and also the pantry which is in the slide. Every little thing helps.

I covered our Rv door with blanket like fabric. I added some metal snaps above the door so the blanket can be removed very easily. I also place a pillow in step cavity. It makes a massive difference.

Minnesota guy says if you need to heat your propane tank head south. This will not be your biggest problem if it is that cold. If you have a small tank, just shake it abit once and awhile. "Stir the Tanks" like Apollo 13 did just without the boom!!

I thought I read somewhere that the propane is more efficient when warmed up a bit. I can't remember where I saw it but the article made sense at the time.

I converted the screen door on our rig into a storm door. I got some very thin clear acrylic sheets, and, by placing self-adhering hook and loop tape around the exterior border of the screen door, and the opposing tape along the borders of the easy-to-cut acrylic, I now can quickly convert the screen door to a clear storm door. In cool weather, the exterior door can still be left open, allowing light to enter, similar to window film, but more durable and easy removable and replaceable. Adds an extra insulating layer from drafts when both door are closed. Total cost about $50.

I cover the A/C unit on top of the RV to prevent cold air from entering the RV. Naturally be careful when walking on the trailer, but this helps to keep cold air from coming in. I use throw rugs throughout the trailer to keep the floors warm too.

We live in Alberta, Canada and winter camp quite often. This yr we skirted our trailer with foil insulation and had made a huge difference. We also placed the clear film over our windows, have electric and furnace heat plus a heated mattress pad. I do like the door cover u suggested and will look into that.

One thing many members of my family use are Kennel Heaters to keep pet beds warm. Works best in some kind of box or carrier (to hold in the heat). The other big thing is flat out good cold weather sense. Wear layers, change out of wet clothes as soon as you can, drink something hot. Always have gloves, a hat, and a coat available (learned that one when I was a kid, we were on a trip to California in June and my dad had to put chains on our van to get over Vail pass, we had only packed for California beaches). Always carry a shovel and make sure all exhausts are kept clear.

I picked up a cheap curtain rod and one of those insulated, light blocking curtains for my door last year. Cheaper than the RV specific ones and I think it looks nicer to boot. I ran into issues with condensation on the windows when I put reflectix on them, because the moisture could still get around it. Same for the vents. For this year, I put that window shrink plastic over the reflectix to seal them air tight. (For the vents, since I wanted to go past the edges to get a good seal around them, I put painters tape on the ceiling and stuck the double sided adhesive to that. So far its sticking well and it actually looks nice with some blue accents around the vents, haha.) Most of the windows just have the film, but in the bedroom, where I wanted to be able to keep the light out more, I used both. I use a 100 watt incandescent light bulb in a utility light to add a small amount of heat to my passthrough and try to keep it a bit warmer. It's not as powerful as a heater, but its a heck of a lot cheaper. I also have 3 different sizes of space heater, 400, 750, and 900 watts, so whether I'm at a campground with 30 amps or staying with family with a 15 or 20 amp outlet I can get a bit of help from the electric heat and save a bit of propane. The smallest one is low enough power that I can leave the water heat on electric (so it doesn't freeze or use a huge amount of propane) and still have enough power left over for my computer and things like the fridge without tripping a breaker.

For our early spring escapades, we put throw rugs down and plug in the electric space heater with the fake fire. $40 from Amazon. Only once did I have to undo the water hose.

5:34 shiny side towards the living space. Brooklyn Bedding...Great mattress! NO...I don't work for them. A friend turned me on to them and It's the first upgrade (brought a used camper.) Even though the mattress that came with it was new, it didn't cut it.

Great tips Jered! But we're in Terlingua, Texas, visiting Big Bend national park right now, and it's dropped just below freezing for the last two nights and will again for several to come. I'm not using our heated water hose yet, but if it were a few degrees colder, I'd have to or else fill our tank and drain the hose, which is annoying. Winter RVing can be incredible, but you have to be prepared for sub-freezing temperatures almost no matter where you go except maybe the Keys!

Hey Jared! I recently purchased the Xtreme Heater based on your recommendation from one of your past (recent) videos, and it's great! I have a bluetooth thermometer/hygrometer in a number of locations including our wet bay has been consistently over 40 degrees F (last two nights it's gotten down to 16 degrees), so thanks!!

Very helpful video. Question, "if I put a foam skirt all around the rv with an xtreme heater placed inside the skirting, do I need to heat tape the water lines?" (Pittsburgh area, rv size is a 8'X30' with one slide.)

There has got to be a cheaper alternative to skirting an rv. I'm a travel nurse (7 years in a travel trailer-10 years total), right now I'm in Missouri, it's cold. I like the portability of the skirting that snaps on, but it is expensive. Seems like I could make something like it for 1/10th the cost. Do you know of anything, or a how too?
@MrMcaruthers
@MrMcaruthers 4 дня назад
Like you, I traveled for 9 years. Skirting will make your life so much easier. There’s a cheap way to skirt and then an expensive way. Each has its pros and cons.. if you plan on being in your RV for at least 2 or 3 more winters. I’d invest in the snap on skirting. Yes expensive but it will make your life so much better.. I did 2 winters in mid Missouri.. I know your pain for the cold..

Good attempt Jared and for novice it's marginal. Hydrodynamic of liquid to gaseous state is not that simple. The colder ambient temperature actually inhibits the transition from liquid to a gas. But in reality it still becomes a gas but at a lower rate which actually is what causes the condition where it consumes the liquid/gas faster. The so-called "Propane" is not specifically suited for low ambient temperatures simply due to its thermal efficiency as could be expressed on a graph as a non linear curve... Just saying...
