Lots of distractions this winter, keeping me from home. Now that I have accomplished the zero debt mission, it's time to rest a bit and prepare for summer. And an Alaskans main summer mission is to prepare for the next winter!

The close attention to detail has me in awe. Wind sock over the water access hole as an example. So well thought out and organized. I’m taking away and learning for my cabin.

Hi Ed, truck is paid off, debt free? What a wonderful life. I have been debt free for many years, I pay cash for everything. I really enjoyed the snowmachine ride except for the last part. It happened to me a couple of weekends ago. Luckily I had my shovel with me but, it took an hour to get out. If you buy a new Skidoo, make it a double widetrack.
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner Год назад
I’d love to have a Skandic SWT. Once I establish a trail with the Summit I use the Tundra for hauling/work. But a wide track machine would be nice. Except getting a heavy machine like that stuck wouldn’t be fun at all.

When we would ride in to our cabins and knew we would not be riding for a few days, we would make sure the engine was cooled off we would raise the hood and cover the engine with a 5x8 tarp. we could really get to the whole engine wrapped up. Then close the hood. That way it was clear of snow. Then we would put the cover on. We didn't have the bear problem to worry about like up there.
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner Год назад
Bears and high winds will do evil things to snow machine covers. But that being said I need to try a high quality cover for the winters at least. About a $350.00 experiment though.

Where does the trail lead? Did you see the epic journey Ariel and Eric took? I don't wanna spoil it for you in case you haven't seen it yet. Do you have four wheelers to use in summer? I know I could go back and watch stuff instead of asking probably, but it's more fun to ask. 🤣
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner Год назад
The 4x4 ATV can only go between the lake and cabin. Also one other trail I’ve been working on for years for logging purposes. The other winter snow machine trail leads back to town, and I’m only aware of one other person that uses it. I did see Ariel and Eric’s video. I’ve been watching their content since they got here to Alaska!

@@MountainMariner - Me too! Well, "there" in Alaska. Isn't that exciting?!? I can't wait to see what they accomplish with that new equipment. Ok, so I wondered if the trail led to town and if one was for logging. I look forward to more videos from you during your next month off from work.

Welcome home. I am sorry to hear that the experiment of parking down at the landing site failed. Summer project to build a storage shed down by the landing site.
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner Год назад
The only problem with a shed is I’d end up having to dig the shed out of the snow. I’ve contemplated a shed built up on stilts about 5-7 feet off the summertime ground level. Ramp in and out to make entry and exit easy.
@bobuncle6962
@bobuncle6962 Год назад
@@MountainMariner maybe some kind of drop down ramp if it could be done with it filling with snow. I have seen one, I just have to remember where and see if I can find it. I will see what I can find
@bobuncle6962
@bobuncle6962 Год назад
Called my brother as he had sent me the video and think s it won't work in your climate. It was trailer ramps welded on to a metal bar and they flipped up and and had a latch. He thought they would freeze closed and not open when you needed them to.@@MountainMariner

Could you hike out of your place? New subscriber here so l wanted to ask. May be an old subject. Beautiful home! English muffins looked good! Cheers.
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner Год назад
Yes, you can hike out back to town. It takes about 12 hours on snowshoes. In the summer when there is no snow it’s much more difficult. You need a packraft to float down the river to town. The terrain is very difficult in summer. And the bears are out.
@Nannygoat
@Nannygoat Год назад
They seems to thrive in your mountain top area too! I am very rural and often carry a firearm. We don't have bears but snakes, coyotes, cougars, bobcats...mostly unaffected by wild life but l feel safer carrying a firearm....small caliber.

I’m sure it’s nice to be back. Quite the adventure just roaming around the yard.👍 Nice to have the truck payed off. Hopefully you won’t have to work much overtime and you can get a lot done this year. How many inches do you have? My buddies in Utah said they have over 300 inches where they been snowmobiling. Over 6-800 inches at the ski resorts. You make it a wonderful week my friend..!!
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner Год назад
Right now there is only about 3 feet of snow on the average. Snow drifts much deeper than that here and there, but the average is three feet. Last year this time there was over 10 feet still on the ground.

Can you put a small snowmobile hut closer to the helicopter site?
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner Год назад
Remember sheds, outhouses etc, when built upon the ground in summer will disappear in the winter. So having my snowmobiles nestled nicely inside the shed would still require me digging the entire shed out. There is really only one spot that the wind keeps the snow away and that’s where my cabin sits. There should be 10 + feet of snow but this year it’s only around 3.
