Let's start with HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all! I hope you have a seriously great one!
In this latest Oscar-worthy video I venture into a remote Welsh forest with my pooch. Our mission is to mark the ultimate depth of midwinter, the moment the Earth majestically begins its celestial sway towards summer and also to bugger off and drink a few ciders. It was a bit of a topsy-turvy one to be honest; nearly caught; nearly didn't find a pitch.... but as is the norm, I utterly loved it and am already itching to get out again (all that time spent editing videos will do that to you). Anyway - my dog (the Chezza Pooch) requests that you like the vid, because I always buy her a dog biscuit for every thumbs up we get. She also asks that you kindly subscribe to he channel; not only to show your deep appreciation and love for us but more importantly to bolster her morbidly fragile ego.
Sending lot's of love and our kindest, heartfelt New Yearyness.
The Chezza Pooch and James x

Hi James, thank you for this vid. I'm thinking about walking the wye valley way wild camping in March, so it was helpful to see your experience wild camping in winter.

Hey. Thanks for the comment. Lovely :-). Its a pioneer 2. 2kg. A bit too much for a stroll in the Wye Valley.... If you use poles I would get a Lanshan 2, check out my Snowdonia video, I'm using one on that, 800 grams !!! . If you don't have poles I would look a Tahji 2 for a summer tent. But for March..... yeah the Pioneer 2 might work for you... it's very durable in wind, a cheaper option which is robust and spacious is the Helm 2.

Hey James, great vid. I think it's vital, while hiking and wild camping, to adapt your plans, because things rarely play out how you want them to, no matter how much planning you do. So it's great to see you doing this on your adventure. I don't know about you, but for me, when I have to deal with the unexpected outdoors, and getting it wrong could lead to a very uncomfortable situation, it really helps get other everyday problems into perspective.

Nice forest spot for the night, I take rations with me on most camps too, Have you tried the Pindi Chana Aloo?
@thegreatoutsiders
@thegreatoutsiders Год назад
Don't think so! Sounds interesting. The ration packs are great, you don't get any fat or oil with the dehydrated meals.

You fell into the same trap as myself, purchased the Pioneer 2 after a good revue by Haze Outdoors and it was a British Firm, The Pioneer 2 is made in China. Only a few of their tents are made in the UK :( Live and Learn, nice video :)
@thegreatoutsiders
@thegreatoutsiders Год назад
Is it made in China?!? noooooo!!! How do you like yours? Haze is why I bought mine too....
@garethandsylvia6656
@garethandsylvia6656 Год назад
@@thegreatoutsiders China - when I pilled it out of the packaging I saw the label Made in China, no problem with that, I've got the naturehike cloud peak 2, excellent tent and good value. I bought the Terra Nova thinking I was supporting British workers. I found the Pioneer to be well made and for me the right size for wild camping. These single person tents are just too small, I like that extra bit of room :)

@@garethandsylvia6656 Yep - I have a cloud peak too! Not so good in the wind though.

Nice camp mate. Looked a really nice location. How are you getting on with the pioneer 2 it’s on my radar ? Cheers Graham.
@thegreatoutsiders
@thegreatoutsiders Год назад
Hi Graham. Massively appreciate the comment. Pioneer 2. What I known so far... Had it in 40 odd mile an hour winds; didn't budge. Condensation seems bad but.... it's a 4 season outer soooooo.... made in China, thought it was British made. The inner is a little baggy and the pitch can be tricky because the inner has bungees that don't quite fit, the ground sheet is a bit too big so you have to peg it separately. The inner has a few stitching issues as you saw in the vid. It's not 100% free standing because the inner relies on the outer being pitched before its taught, but it is 90% self standing. Tbh it's a great concept because what we want is a cloudpeak that's tougher and 4 season, or a soulo that's cheaper, the pioneer almost makes it IMO, and the main thing it's supposed to do is stand up to the wind and let me sit up and it does that. Only thing I miss is extra vestibule that I get with cloudpeak and lanshan. But something has to give when you want heavier poles and a tougher fly. Sorry for the massive answer. Unashamed gear geek. Oh and the cap is slightly baggy for some reason!?. I feel like it's only a 90% finished concept. If I was buying again I'd get the scarp, but not tried that. Have you?
@grahamscothern4319
@grahamscothern4319 Год назад
@@thegreatoutsiders Thanks for the reply. I have cloud peak 2 helm 1 compact love that tent. Looked at scarp as well. Trouble is there is no where to go and see these tents for real. Do like the look of the scarp1. I would also love the soulo but don’t want to sell my house to buy one. 🤣🤣 Cheers Graham.
@thegreatoutsiders
@thegreatoutsiders Год назад
@@grahamscothern4319 there you go... all the same thoughts as me... maybe a 4 season version of the helm would be a good shout. Feel like theres a gap in the market.
