Always helpful to know plant zone in each video. If you are zone 4 and I am zone 7, we are not exactly talking apples to apples. Helpful to have this in each vider especially for folks who follow numerous channels. Thanks.

Wow! I am so excited to do this! Thank you for this video! the process is simplified and straightforward and included the nuggets that I was looking for regarding when to put these containers out, that they can tolerate staying in the snow, and that they don’t need any extra work and will do the germinating once temperature is right.Thank you so much! Will check out your website

this is my first year, it's the end of march, our weather is about to become 70's degrees...so the rest of the plants will start germinating. i use a drill to put in the holes, it was very easy..i glued small plastic cups to some tops of the jugs to test....my theory is this would help direct more water in...i labeled the jugs with a number, packing tape over the number, and wrote my journal what is each jug

@lilyred8120
@lilyred8120 4 года назад
Heard to use potting soil. Peat moss doesn't have enough nutrients to sustain the plants until they are put out, unless you liquid fertilize them in the jug.

Thanks for the tip on labeling. I have so many styrofoam trays from meat and fruit that I'd like to use. How much soil needs to be below? They're less than 1/2 inch deep. I have a mini greenhouse and would put them in there but have to cover from mice and squirrels. Raccoons would be looking into anything in the garden with a lid.

Different subject. I get 30 mags a month and thru them in my garden to kill weeds this fall so by spring they will possibly have killed the weeds and make good mulch. I bought this house not knowing he garden area is full of gravel. So sad.. Do you think the mags are ok to use?

Hi Kevin, I was planning on putting my jugs out today but we are going to get 14” of snow this weekend and this would be higher than the jugs. I am concerned that the snow will fill up the jugs and water log them . Should I wait and put out after it snows? Thanks!
@kevinleejacobs1364
@kevinleejacobs1364 2 года назад
Hi Bette - If your containers have adequate drainage holes, a mountain of snow won't hurt the seeds. (Most winters, my own jugs are buried beneath 2-3 feet of snow!)

You will have to gently water them yourself. Not much. Just keep an eye on them for getting too dry.

I live in Canada (zone 4 B) since i dont use my greenhouse in the winter.it cold in there. Can I put my winter containers in the greenhouse?
@kevinleejacobs1364
@kevinleejacobs1364 3 года назад
I would not put the containers in a greenhouse. The goal here is to expose the seeds to the elements outdoors: snow, sleet, and rain.
@richardfilion9750
@richardfilion9750 3 года назад
@@kevinleejacobs1364 Thanks Kevin for the info. But just like how we get thru from the elements by planting them and letting the seeds decide when they are ready to germinate. What if I were to duplicate the missing elements like moisture because although I don’t heat my greenhouses in the winter, I can access the greenhouse and duplicate the sleet and moisture etc. I already put a few jugs in the cold greenhouse and I will keep you posted. Meanwhile the other jugs I will create will go into our Canadian winter lol. Thanks again. Regards Richard Filion
