Because of you and one other I watch on RU-vid I have learned so much and I now have 30 jugs going and plan to add a few more! Have raised beds for the first time this year for my vegetables and will add the flowers to my beds that I started on last year! You are great at explaining and sharing your journey with us and I am super excited in learning and experiencing the joys of growing. Hello, I am in Knoxville, TN and am wanting to winter sow. Is it too late in the season (1/24)? I lived in Madison WI for 16 years and always winter sowed a lot sooner than this, and since you're relatively close to my growing zone, I thought I'd ask if it's too late. Thanks!

I just winter-sowed Strawflowers, purple coneflowers, Bachelor buttons & snapdragons abt 2 weeks ago. I'll be sowing my next batch - hardy annuals and shelling peas soon. So excited! Eeeeek! Happy Birthday!! You've inspired me to bring winter sowing in my life. I now have 15 jugs started, but obviously need more. Things are going to get out of control!!! I will never look at a plastic bottle the same. Always has a use. 😁

You had really a Great return! They all did well! Me, last year, not so much. I was trying to think where you were located and thought she has to be near a large body of water-yep, NC. My thoughts are growing temperatures are more stable near large bodies of water. What happened to my Winter sow of 50 containers-Z5a, WI- I reviewed my garden journal and found what happened. Last January it was way too warm and it was raining. February turned colder. I noted the seeds swelling the second week of February and then a snow storm hit. Many of the seeds rotted or germinated and froze. Our weather in the Midwest is changing at a breakneck speed-as one called it-the weather is having mood swings. This past December I was potting up some plants-outside-In the Rain 52*F on Christmas!😮. Then January temps were 30s, then a week of subzero after 13th AND NOW we will have TWO weeks of not just rain and 40s, But possibly hitting 50 by end of next week!😮😮. Normally we have a few days of warmth we always called the January Thaw-But this is extreme. Because of this I need to wait😭. They can’t predict the weather and the future cast for Feb is just what it Should be and Not what is happening. I planted many new to me varieties last year ‘23 and many perennials as all the WS did pretty well in ‘22. Had a lot of loss ‘23. I can only hope that the few seeds I kept from the small seed packs will still be viable yet and grow them inside. I should have planted them inside last year-too many things already growing so I kept them. I’m also finding some flowers don’t excel in my garden like Tithonia. 😅I seen yours and thought I’m going to try that. We seen something that looked like a weed and almost pulled it. It was very healthy and getting as tall as the hollyhocks. One day in the fall I seen something bright orange waving out in the flowers and it was Two Tithonia😂😂😂 Then the frost nabbed them😂😂. At least I now know it wasn’t a weed😂😂. Not sure, but if I grow again I think they need a head start here. Last spring was a dreadful time! Ugh!! Seriously I almost threw the towel in and I am an avid gardener. We had 90s in MAY 😮 and all the plants were Booming! THEN-a freeze the last weekend of May. It killed a grape, knocked back berries, potatoes and pretty much annihilated all peppers and tomatoes in which I had logged over 25 varieties and twice as many plants. The winery lost 95% of grapes and they are on higher land. This freeze was not advertised At All by local weather or I could have prepared. Who would have thought with all the heat we had. Amazingly the flats with extras didn’t get hit and debated whether to replant. I did, but my notes were all askew. It was a sign of the start to a bad year as I had to install irrigation because the drought was severe. It was a good thing as I love it and so do the plants. So here I sit watching and waiting to see what this weather/temps will do. I’m hoping the 20” of snow will help get us out of drought as we were 7+” down on precipitation in December. There is no way to set out WS jugs in these warm rainy days of winter just to have February freeze them again. Some say the seed knows when to grow-does it also know it’s in an artificial environment in a clear jug?🤔 probably not. If I do any right now it will be with cheap seeds and set them in a shaded location, but the night time temps are staying at or above freezing right now 😏. 😂my husband just said they are building another dollar store-how many do we need? We are just a small town. However, maybe they will have a large supply of seeds like you have. Here I only see a few on end racks. As a kid I think American Seed is what we sold door to door.😊 Our zone didn’t change, but are temps sure are-and quickly. We Are Suppose to get colder going into winter-Halloween 36*F, Thanksgiving 41*, Christmas 52*, January -11* windchills -25* 40s-50*-it’s not normal.🫣 Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉

Wow, that was beautiful and very inspiring! I did a handful of winter sowing jugs last winter. I loved it so much so this year I’m starting as many as I have jugs for. I have been collecting all the juice and vinegar jugs that I can.
