James heads to the Warwickshire Avon, filmed in mid-November, winter had started to kick in, with some sharp frosts on the days before the session. This gave James the ideal opportunity to fish with the stick float using the CR10 15ft #1 Match Rod and CS8 4000 reel. Watch the video for some top tactics on using the stick float this winter.

Nice location, used to fish the Avon 30 odd years ago. Good Chub and Barbel. And your dogs great, well behaved and a good fishing companion.

Get back out there I just started again after well over 30 years. The gear is really cheap and better quality than the past as well.

Over here in Canada, we release fish right after catching them, unless they go on a stringer or in the cooler. I really like the idea of that catch bag(?) so that you could see your fish again before letting them go at the end of the day.

its called a keep net, mostly used in competitive matches to weigh the fish at the end of the match when the total weights are used to determine the winner.

Yeah.its nice to properly check how big the fish were before letting them go.

Brilliant, James has the tackle sorted that's for sure, I used the 14ft match #1 last weekend using 0.12 hook length and was very impressed with the rod after landing 3 big Chub, think it's going to have a few more outings when I'm targeting those Chub again in the future! And goes without saying yet another quality video production.

Not sure I agree when lines are rated in lbs you have a good idea at when they will break. (In theory). But with all the different manufacturers and line diameters a point .12 in suffix might be 8lb but in Bayer only 3lb
@smitbar11
@smitbar11 5 лет назад
exactly, breaking strain is a much better system than metric decimal diameters, probably another EU related idea lol
@jaquesdaniels2964
@jaquesdaniels2964 3 года назад
@@smitbar11 Breaking strain and dia are both given on the spool , and usually in lbs an kgs , bs figures are mostly BS anyway and often depends on balance of tackle .

Hi, very nice video as always and helpful tips. Can I ask if you can make a video for long distance and heavy float, about 10gr or more. Thank you
@CadenceFishingUK

bullit1973 not too many venues where that style is fished n UK. But we will certainly consider it.

james a cracking video as all ways //could you include ware on the river you are and the club that control the venue //as it would be nice to try different waters,,and you show that its worth ago//as a lot of anglers go to a river only to find its hard going or over grown ,,or the local yobs //are around..it would be nice to have a guide as to good safe fishing..as there are few guides for rivers these days all of witch put a lot of anglers off rivers ,,and thats a shame..cheers james //and tight lines .///

A friend of James allows him access to this stretch and we respect his desire for privacy. By and large, where we can, we do give full details at the end of most videos. Sometimes, we have to compromise though, apologies for that! There is a lot of of the Avon where you won't be bothered by anyone, just have to avoid the bits near 'people'...sadly, and get right out into the countryside.

Cadence Fishing UK reminds me of Twyford Farm where I fished a lot in the 80's and 90's and had a lot of success in matches. Got to know the likes of Dave Harrell, Paul Newall and the late John Coates who all gave me a lot of help to improve my river fishing.

Nice session, but do you really need to put the barbel in the keepnet?
@ianchappytube
@ianchappytube 6 лет назад
Robert Moore with all due respect Robert, why are barbel any more or less 'special' than any other species? It's personal choice and there are no rules against putting barbel in a keepnets, particularly in matches.
@olorin1.414
@olorin1.414 5 лет назад
A barbels fins are particularly stiff and can easily become tangled in the net. There are other species that don't do well in keep nets pike and grass carp.

Hook size 17? Is it now necessary to have hook sizes between the conventional even numbers or is it just a hook salesmen gimmick. Would you choose a 17 because you think an 18 is too small and a 16 too big?
@CadenceFishingUK
@CadenceFishingUK 2 года назад
I was using a Kamasan B711 size 17. I really like the size of the hook and it works really well for me. Not bothered about the number used to classify the size. I find hook sizes vary massively between manufactures and with different patterns. Best just to find a reliable pattern and size and stick to it!

I prefer to release Barbel straight after capture. No need to stress them out by bagging them.
@CadenceFishingUK
@CadenceFishingUK 5 лет назад
Suppose dragging them from the water by a line and sharp hook isn't stressful then?🤔

Great video again but with brexit can we go back to line strength in terms of lbs and Oz then I will have a clue about what strength line you are using and anyone else making vids is using. Can't wait to buy a pint of maggots again!
@CadenceFishingUK
@CadenceFishingUK 6 лет назад
Paul Harrison fair point Paul, but diameter ratings as just as easy to comprehend and its all about fishing fine as possible to achieve the best presentation. Modern lines allow this.
@CadenceFishingUK
@CadenceFishingUK 6 лет назад
Hi Paul, its a good point as I know a lot of anglers still go on breaking strain for line, not diameter. I'll try and mention the breaking strain as well as diameter in the future. Cheers James
@stephenisom6089
@stephenisom6089 5 лет назад
paul agree with you B S you can test L D is more difficult //as you mention .each company has the same L D and they break all over the place i think L D is in vogue,,at the moment///but it does not mean any thing other than the diameter //but what good is that when you can/t tell when it breaks ,,pointless ,//unless you test it,well may as well just do that breaking strains ,,.if it aint broke why change it//

There will come a day when this guy is not going to feel like totting all that much fishing tackle just to do a little fishing. At 77 years old... believe me... I know what I am saying. You don't need to bring along that much stuff just to go fishing.
@richardburns5925
@richardburns5925 8 месяцев назад
You need one 13ft rod in a cloth bag, a slim 2 metre take apart landing net handle, a rucksack containing, landing net, maggot box, small tackle box with floats, shot, hooks, disgorger, hooklength spools, scissors......reel, beer towel for hands, catapult, flask, sandwich 👍 Oh, and I take a slim Preston ready hook length box as well, takes no room up and saves you trying to tie hooks with cold hands in winter 👍
