I agree, there are many advantages to utilizing indoor storage. Even if not indoors, everyone would benefit from your advice on winterizing their own boats. Thanks for spreading the knowledge. Best wishes.

So agree! Inside heated storage is the best convenient option; liquids don't have to be removed, we have a keel sooo ( no worries of an internal crack from moisture). Projects and repairs can be completed. Always nice giving the bottom a good look over and cleaning. Thanks Sam for the tips!

Thanks you two! We hope to see soon on Lake Erie in a few weeks!

Definitely the best situation for the boat but you need to first tell how to find and trust a yard. They cannoverbook and not get around to your boat, then what do you do. Cost in another important item for what they do and what they don't get done. Lots of responsibility in what seems like a simple job unless you have 25 other boats waiting. Good topic presented well.

Good video Sam. Heated storage is not too common in my area of New England, but I can see the value of it. I like the idea of your RUM log. Storage must have been a success as your a back underway. Hopefully no surprises.

There were few surprises and disappointments and delays. I will speak to those in an upcoming video! 😊

Sam; I have to admit that I'm a little surprised that when putting "Here's To Us" in heated winter storage you don't winterize the wet systems. Especially the engines. What is the backup plan if there is a catastrophic ice storm, like there was up in Canada I believe several years ago, and places were without power for days if not weeks? I have buddies in the DC area that "winterize" by turning the heaters up in the cabins, and running heaters in the engine rooms. It's a great plan until the power goes out. Just curious on the thought process.

Yes, there's always a chance, but the places have their own backup generators and heating systems. In the .01% chance it goes down completely, it would have to be down for days and be a freeze-agedon! Then the insurance kicks in! ☺️

In the midwest, at least where I've seen, indoor heated storage locations still requires winterization. If the power goes out at their location, their heaters will stop working and they can't do anything about that. What sort of redundant heat do the other indoor heated storage places have that don't require winterization?

They had their own generator and heat plant as a backup.

Sam. I have an off topic question. My son and I are planning on bringing a 42’ Silverton from Wisconsin to Connecticut. I’m interested in him many days it would take to traverse the Erie Canal? John Aiello

John, what is the height and draft of the Silverton? Sam

If you can get down to 14'5', you can do the western Erie canal - Buffalo to Waterford plan on 10-12 days minimum at a moderate pace.

If you are 16'8" you will have to do Welland to Oswego and then Eastern Erie canal to Waterford.
