Hello Dan and thanks for the review. As a younger man I spent several years in Alaska and had much time hiking through the backcountry bush for days at a time. A large knife (CASE Bowie) was more useful than a hatchet for making small frames for my tarp lean-too and collecting boughs to put under a ground cloth for my bed. Used a bear rifle to shoot the heads off of grouse and ptarmigan for many a supper. The knife was lighter than the hatchet, but still useful for preparing firewood. Spent many a frozen night under the constelation Orion while smoke from my long fire would rise above to the Northern Lights. Truly "The Good Old Days."
Wow!! Sounds like an amazing time! I too used to love the winter camping under a lean to of fir boughs with a nice fire going through the night. Anymore, my back gets so sore that I only do it rarely.
Great review i gave you a follow cause nobody is using these online their just showign them i want to see how.yhey go through material your the only one doing a use video haha!
So glad you are doing this thanks a ton. Fyi the cpm3 version goes live today. Ive got a 6.5 on the way but maybe next year ill get the 8 inch model. I do love a 7-8 inch knife.
Ordered an AK8 in Magnacut with green canvas micarta and black kydex. Looking forward to seeing how Magnacut performs in a larger blade. White River is the OEM for the AK8 blades in CPM steels and Tops does the 1095 so you know the quality is there.
That's a really great looking knife. The same way you sharpen the knife edge maybe you can sharpen the ferro rod divot with a little Dremel tool. Maybe they don't make it too sharp for those people who may not want to use that for striking a rod. It will also be interesting to see a comparison between the bk9 and the Junglas ll. There are videos comparing the bk9 and the Junglas l but not the ll. What happens if you like this knife more than all your other ones? It's a tough decision we all have to make, ha just joking.
Lol! Thank you! I actually did exactly what you suggested. Used a dremel tool yesterday to sharpen the divot, and the belt sander on the spine.. Hoping to get out and do the comparison video tomorrow.
Pros and cons. I love my knives, s knife junky at heart. I don’t own a bunch but the ones I have serve their purpose. But yo have a large knife and is light I don’t know. I’d want more weight for chopping and my smaller ones for finder work. But it would as you say be nice to carry long distances, to each their own. Thanks , and looking forward to the next vid on comparison 👍
Im not big on choppers but i like the looks of that one. That smaller knife you designed (i believe) i would like to pick one of them up. Keep up the awesome videos man
The Ochoco Bush Knife is still available as well as the Ochoco EDC Knife. There is a video on each one with the ordering information in the description.
@ochocobushcraft1742 there is nothing wrong with 1095 at all. It's reliable, easy to sharpen, just rust and mitigation can be a little iritating especially if you have to pack oil.
I wanted one in magnacut which sold out in about 5 minutes. I think there working on an ak10 when I asked but I don't think it will be the same size as an esee junglas as they may be using the same size handle as the AK 6 and AK8 it's not confirmed yet though.
@@jhonrutger3508 The Magnacut AK8 is an awesome knife for sure. I wanted the 3V as I’m a little rougher on my knives. I plan on grabbing a few more variants of the AK family. I have a 3V AK 6.5 that I’ve had for a while and it’s an absolute beast that does everything well.
So how does this compare to junglas 2. Ill bet its a better batoner and chopper.I was waiting for architect to come out with a large chopper thats sabre grind but i already have a junglas 2 which is a flat grind. Shoulda waited
@@ochocobushcraft1742 I own the other two knives. I prefer sabre grind but the bk9 is an ugly knife even with micarta imo. Esees and ontarios look so cool. I especially like the option for esee 6 I got the esee 6 in flat dark earth. Ordered an od green polymer sheath. Got the molle back in od green, pouch in same, the dc3 sharpener in it as well as ferro rod, honing compound, Vaseline cotton balls, beeswax lip balm to oil the blade. I might put green and black g10 scales in it but when I ordered g10 scales for the bk 9 the scales were too small for retention in my kydex sheath
