@@zacholson3429 too expensive to eat on the road otherwise, every meal is $8-15 per adds up real quick and very unhealthy. I spend $75 on fresh food I can cook, gets me by for about 10 days.
Just found your channel. Crazy to me how much people, including myself, enjoy simple pure videos like this. Happy for you and your growth man. You’re living the life we all dream of, doing what you love and making a comfortable living doing so. Keep up the great content
Also when you make videos with new heating or cooling methods, keep that thermometer handy. I was damn curious how much those candles heated up the truck 😂
Try a few 3 wick pillar candles. They're like the 'hoss' you've got going with the tea lights but with 3 wicks. I knew a guy who had no heat in his car and used one to take the chill off. Five may give you the heat needed with much much longer sleep time (depends on candle construction). Or even make your own.
OH DAAAMNNN.. RAW OG OVER ON MAVS CHANNEL ahaa been watching yall both for time now !! MAV this is a crazy one lol, ESPECIALLY with them tiny candles ! keep up the great content man.
Hey man :) Keep in mind that putting candles too close together in a group can become quite dangerous. The oil can evaporate if the heat gets to intense, flaring up and more or less becoming an inferno... Should be atleast 5-10cm between candles. Stay safe!
Try 3 tea lights underneath an upside down clay flower pot. They amplify the candle heat a bit. I use two flowerpots over 6 tealights in my Tacoma with an ARE canopy. Side windows cracked a bit. Perfect with a regular sleeping bag. I've been using this in the 25 - 30 degree range with no issues, and warm enough to kick the covers off occasionally. Reload the tealights as needed. Lower temps may require 3 or 4 clay flowerpots. In the morning I'll put the clay flowerpots over my Coleman stove burners to warm it up quickly. Just don't forget to use gloves when you touch the hot flowerpots. Speaking from experience.
It just disperses the heat into a thermal mass. It doesn't create anymore heat, just disperses it over a wider area instead of the very small amount of heat going straight up in a laminar flow.
Hey get your self a cheap 6” deep metal cooking pot that is about 10” round buy some 6 to 8 hour tea lights. Line them up to cover the bottom of the pot if things you get out of control you can use the lid and smother a possible fire out. It will keep the wax contained and concentrate the heat output
Man seeing you holding your breath in the tunnel , it brought back memories when me and my brothers used to do that to every tunnel my mom drove under 🤣
When I was a youngster we had a floor furnace in the living room as the only heat so I used to use candles like that to keep my hands warm so I could do my hobbies like electronics in my bedroom.
Hey Mav, just so you know, those tea light candles are made with paraffin which is made with petroleum by-products. See if there are any places local that sell soy candles. Soy wax is the only kind I use and have been making candles for around 20 years. It burns much cleaner and burns longer than paraffin. Thanks for all of your cool videos!
Why am I so invested in these videos? I have to watch them all the way through bc the anticipation of wanting to know how his night ended keep me watching.
If you put a clay plant pot over some candles (with some small bricks or something under to let air in) it heats up small spaces really fast. my dad would do that in winter to warm up the living room and worked really well
The holding your breath in the tunnel was classic brought me back to childhood, anytime you dance while driving I crack up some day you gotta do a dance freestyle outside the truck people would love it
@@lal5555f not going so hot for our boy Jake so far! He needs a jeep sponsor or a reliable newer van build. Kenzie is awesome and with a real set up I think she would kill it with him!
I live in Norway and I sleep with the window open (to get fresh air, heated air sucks) and I have like 3-4 blankets over me, so this is relatable content
It’s not entirely about the ratio of CO to fresh air, CO bonds with your blood cells, so despite a bit of fresh air you’re still being constantly exposed to the CO and letting it build up. Even if you realize it’s exceeded what you can take, you can die in fresh air long hours later because it stays in your system.
Hey Mav, I was just watching one of your old videos "Making my truck off grid (Adding solar panels)" and in that video you said that you could only make infinite POWER and you were just using a water jug for your water. Well there IS a way to a water source. You could make a rain catchment system. you could have a tarp that is a little bit angled on your truck with a funnel in the middle attached to a tube with a tap on the end. You attach the tube to your water jug and your done. When your water jug gets full you turn the tap off so that the water can't keep coming in and over flowing. Also if this didn't work you could add a bucket/jug on your roof to catch water. Lastly, you also might be able to make this work for in the winter if you make the tarp close/attached to the roof and when it gets warm inside the heat will radiate off and melt the snow outside. Love the videos, keep up the great content!
I’m happy to know that I’m not the only person that holds their breath when I’m going under the tunnels up there. At least I’m not the only one. And sometimes I’ll hold the roof.
If you are going to use candled for heat, make yourself one of those clay flower pot candle heater and use about 3 candles to heat the flower pot. It will retain and radiate the heat.
Lmao 😂 made my day, brought me back to the days when I lived in my 1974 Ford F-100 4x4 and let tell you that was a long time ago.... I used candles for lighting and heating but my Candles was way bigger and never thought about a fire extinguisher...🤣 I also had the old kerosene pump up camp stove I actually used for heat with the windows cracked.... Them was the good old days😎
Candles work very well to heat small spaces. The only problem with candles is they pose a fire risk obviously, and candles for some reason give off a huge amount of humidity. So expect walls to get very iced up or very wet
I've done tea light candles for a while. 2hrs consistently. I have 3 fondue sets that run off a tea light candles. I use them mostly to boil water. It retains heat a lot longer plus you can make soup or whatever with the HOT water in the morning.
@Karma Global TV bahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭 I love it when people try to outsmart someone on the internet with every comment. Like bro, I never said a specific date or time period. Clearly, I was alluding to the manual labor it took to stay warm by having to stoke a fire, replenish wood or keep the stove coals hot. Did you even watch the video?
Hey mav, name is Rick. I have a great simple recipe, I don't know to put it in your comments or what, but it's called "Italian bread" 1 onion chopped, 1 red/green pepper. 1lb of italian sausage ground up in a pan. Now, lay out a pizza/croissant roll flat, add meat onion etc on flat dough top with mozzarella cheese, roll it up like a cinnamon bun cook 375° for about 30min. Then cut up, dip in marinara sauce, it's great!! Your case you'd have to pan it cause no oven. Thanks Rick. BTW you rock. I watch everyday.
Mav should find himself a good girl who enjoys eating milky Hamburger Helper, sleeping in -20 degrees, waking up every hour to check on tealight candles, and filthy trucks. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
@@Carla486674 wow. I’m impressed. Who would have thought the female version of Mav would exist in the form of a leggy supermodel? Maybe God will find a way to bring them back together.
Finally a cost effective source of heat and more importantly has to be the safest way of heating a small confined area, absolutely zero risk oxygen depletion or fire. Great idea. I'm going to try this this weekend, I'll get back to you with my feedback. If you don't hear back from me I think we all will know why........
I would be so paranoid i would roll the pan over and then the flames would engulf me as my ass is trapped in the sleeping bag. God how did you sleep like that lmfao
To deal with severe cold at night, get one of those "Hot Hands" heater packets and put it near your groin. There are major arteries there that will carry warm blood through your body and they last for hours.
Would love to see some more ice fishing content too Mav! As someone who lives in NJ I'll sadly never experience something like it in my life, enjoy living my experiences through you! Stay healthy and safe Mav!
What!?!?!?! I thought I was the only one to hold my breath through tunnels. Everytime we traveled as a kid I did it. Even now 40, reliving a small part of my child hold I do it while I drive.
Question: I see a lot of people saying this What does this mean to u guys? And why do it? What does it achieve? Other than loss of oxygen. At the end of the day I go under tunnels all the time and I don’t hold my breath what so ever I never once nor heard about doing this ever. What’s the meaning behind this? I mean if anything holding your breath. don’t change nothing to whatever your guys meaning is to do that. Is it a requirement? I don’t get it
@@shinichi5086 With the massive amount of candles he was burning in his truck it’s a mystery how he didn’t get carbon monoxide poisoning. Doesn’t make much sense to hold your breath in a tunnel and then go burn candles in a enclosed unventilated space.
Mav, I didn't read through everybody's post... but have you thought about carrying some dry milk store it last a long while just add water... Good luck... thanks for the VID...
Try using yankee candles for heat. The glass containers help store and emanate heat. Plus they have things to put on the candle to help evenly melt the wax so the candle lasts longer. I know you got a fire extinguisher but always be cautious of open flames in an enclosed area.
The same amount of heat is released by burning a candle regardless. The trick would be insulating the cab better, slowing heat loss to surroundings, or getting the candles to burn faster, releasing more heat over same time.
Dude. When do you shower, shave, teeth. Etc? I need to teach you how to make HoBo packs. We learned it in the boy scouts. 1 hamburger patty in tin foil. 4 slices of potatoe on top. 2-3 slices of onion on top of potatoe, several slices of carrot on top of that. Salt pepper and a tablespoon of butter on top. Wrap and seal it all up and bake it grill it however you want to cook it( you can also put it in the engine compartment of the truck and let the engine cook it . It’s simple and a full meal in one !
We had a power outage in October during an ice storm and I used votive candles under a rack to reheat some food. The soot on the pan was hard to clean. I’m thinking using that many candles in a small area is not healthy to breathe.
For people that like candles its not just carbon monoxide you should be worried about but candles also released soot and that is just as bad when you breathe it in. So careful trying this out anywhere in closed environment.
I also camp, in van, for years. -3 last night. My suggestion is you TENT your sleeping area. I see you have insulation foil on roof, some kind of way you can cut your roof down in half when sleeping, say putting a automobile windshield fordable reflector to cage the space (multiple likely)? Try to build a ' heat box' for your sleeping area.
There’s a candle heating system, but they require these relatively expensive candles that last about 6 hours. But tea-lights? I’d be nervous to leave those burning while I sleep.
Hi. Great videos! Have you considered combining candle lighting and the clay pot together? If your looking for longevity thru the night, may I suggest getting a small jar of crisco cooking lard and shoving a skinny taper candle in the center of the jar. Make sure that the tapper candle is cut the same height as the crisco jar and burn the candle. You then can place the crisco jar with burning candle under a clay pot. Make sure that the clay pot has a little air flow on the bottom and close the top hole of the clay pot with a coin to trap the heat in. This creates radiant heat that lasts for days. No need to get up and light another candles since the crisco fat melts for days. And it’s super cheap that you can get pretty much anywhere. Anyways just a suggestion. I’m curious how that fares in minus degree temps. Good luck! :)
Easy way to stay warm while winter camping, head south. Like the birds do. Birds are smart that way. Mav you're hard core. Though you got it a lot easier than when I was doing that stuff in the 90's. Tech has advanced so much. Get rid of the drawers and shelves, just put everything in a couple of plastic tubs. When the tubs get full, that's it, can't take any more stuff along. You'll live more simply and have more time. Though you'll have to think up different topics for your vids.
the reason why your candles didnt last as long as they should is that its too cold in there and the wax cant fully melt. That is why you see that the middle is burned up but there is plenty of wax left on the sides, usually that wax on the sides would melt down and burn up before the wick reaches the bottom but you need some heat to remain in the candle for that to work.
