@jimpoppin o_O we're _all_ monkeys though...well, great apes (i.e., hominid) technically, but close enough. also, that was a chimp, a hominid, our closest extant "relatives" and *not a monkey.* wtf kind of educational film is that???
He's also humble man, thats why we like him! Learning about that lifestyle is entertaining but also IMO a need as times are looking rough. I'm 4 months out from doing the van life myself here in CO, prepped the supplies and van upgrades over a 3 year time span! Foresty, temps here suck but nothing like Canada. I like your style and love your van and am very happy you were able to move into that bad boy, I cant imagine the thrill you had the first week!
Great content and highly entertaining! What most viewers don't see is the actual effort that goes into making each and every video. Setting up the camera somewhere, walk away from it or drive the van past it, stop, go back, collect the camera again, repeat. Thanks for allowing us to be part of this. And BTW: Good to hear that "Crappy Tire" is still a term being used as it was 40 years ago when I worked there. 😄
Right? I love that he is among us, roaming the trails, upgrading the current van build and tending the crockpot shrine. Foresty Forest, he is a certified hit.
I`m stuck inside in Queens NY, I have no life, everything is shut down, nowhere to go, quarantined and nursing a knee injury But I can always watch you and live vicariously through you and I can`t stop singing your theme song in my head. Your amazing Man! Thankyou for helping me get through life.
jeez Forest...66 years old and have acquired my first addiction..your daggum videos...I click and click and finally you'll post s new video and my whole mind frame changes....I'm no longer "Jonesing" for a "hit"of the great outdoors...thanks for my first addiction....to they have rehab for this?
Ever notice how the camera shots of him approaching the camera are done in such a way you don't see any footprints from when he placed the camera? He does that for hiking shots in the show as well. That's commitment!
Gonna need full dimensions...material list...maybe get a foundation poured...spice rack is important to the slow cookers recipes 🙂 always having fun here.
Let's just take a moment to appreciate this dude's videography. Absolutely incredible, this dude deserves millions of subscribers. Keep doing your thing Foresty!
You need a Dutch oven to cook in over the fire. We used them all the time when I was a Scout, and my favorite meal in it was Chuck Wagon Casserole: ground beef, peppers, onions, canned corn, mix with BBQ sauce, and then you pour cornbread mix over the top and bake.
"This is kind of a lousy video, I didn't really accomplish anything..." *standing on the side of a mountain* Forest you are living the life, huge respect for you. Stay safe out there
Hi, great video. I too have an Optimus Polaris, that makes quite a roar when fired up - and the fluf, fluf, fluf sound when ideling. I added a BernieDwag silencer cap to my stove. It now just makes that hsssss sound you know from a regular gas stove, even running high output on regular petrol. Not as quiet as a Trangia, but way better for those quiet mornings in nature. Have a good day. P.
Foresty Forest and Elsa Rhae & Barron And lets not forget Kamp would be a great video. The ultimate outdoor adventure minimalists. Bugger off Covid so the boarders can open up!!
Tip: A little bit of salt in your water greatly delays the freezing. Not sure how big of a difference it makes during hikes but for bike rides it was a huge difference. After about 5 hours of -10-15°C I only have a drinkable slushie instead of the typical block of ice.
2:22 the Majesty shared with all viewing this perspective...later contrasted with the summit for another day did not make for a wasted effort. FF, I know several folks not able to get out to see the great outdoors. What you have done here inspires and delights. You trudge through the splendor of nature, a single set of tracks and yet you carry a nation along with every step. The lessons learned and responsible example you share can and will save many lives. Many great and humble thanks.
You may have to look into an instapot! Its multi-function will save you time on cooking. Only down side is when you release the valve in the tight spaces but it shouldn’t be too bad.
And to think that my coffee filters just sit in a drawer. My cell service is weak near a major city . Foresty is getting calls up on a mountain. Great job.
IKR?! Now I am feeling guilty and wondering how much FF would sell those coffee filter holders for on Etsy. You know, little side hustle for when there's *nothing to do.*
Very cool images! And I hope that you did stop for a second on the mountain when you decided to turn around and not go to the summit... and had a look at the crazy view you already had up there. Would NOT call that “not achieving anything” ! Thanks for sharing!
Here in the UK near York it’s -1 they say it feels like -7 don’t know how you cope with your cold temperatures only went to the dustbin had to run back inside I feel like a wimp compared to you Canadians, love your channel!
Don't feel bad, its all a matter of acclimatization. I left for Yucatan Mexico for 2 weeks; when I came back to Canada I felt cold. Now I'm back to walking outside in -15 c weather wearing just a light sweater.
Yeah - I'd love to spend a winter in Alberta to see if I could cope with -40. The funny thing is the UK is actually at a higher latitude than where the majority of the Canadian population lives at. If we didn't have the gulf stream the UK would be colder than most of Canada is.
When you say that she didn’t get to the Summit and so you didn’t accomplish much of anything keep in mind that the progress that you made is a very thorough scouting mission which means the next time you attempt it you will know what works and what doesn’t work
@ 10:08 NEVER say "this has been a lousy video, I haven't really accomplished anything". Your videos are always great, and just your carpentry clips alone is cool to watch, the spectacular footage of the scenery you get to see and share with us is awesome. Never beat yourself up over your content, you do a great job.
Yes, absolutely I "thumbs up" all my subscriptions before viewing. I figure if I watch something I should acknowledge it, rarely do I not. It has to be absolute crap that I stop viewing within a few minutes before I won't up click.
In addition to your epic travels, I could just watch you cook all day in the van. You should make a cookbook for the hiker or person on the go. I’d totally buy it!
"Lousy video". This man could upload a video of nothing but silent crock-pot or campfire in the middle of the wilderness and I'd watch every damn second of it.
Watching you drive those snowy roads and the view at the top of your hike was worth way more than the price of admission. Thanks for continuing to share your experiences.
Driving while flying the drone takes an extreme amount of skill not many people will understand that! haha not to mention all the times you have to stop and pick up your camera after driving. Great content.
Don't put the intake inside, cold air has more oxigen then hot air. It should burn better with cold air. Also never connect a pipe that goes to the combustion chamber, to the inside of your van. You never know what could happen wile you sleep. If the heater fan stops working, fumes come out of the intake
The diesel heaters have a in and exhaust out for the burn chamber. They are through his floor to outside. They also have a intake air in and heated air out. Air in at one end of plastic case. Heat out the other. The two parts are not connected in any way. So having it recirculate in and out of main is better them sucking cooler air from under bed
Yup I think there should anyways be a fresh air intake as companion for roof fan which is exhaust. Fresh air intake through the heater when it is off must be quite little. Anyways interesting find that the output is same no matter if it taking cold air out or recirculating inside air. Heater must use more fuel and power to make cold air warm.
“I haven’t really accomplished much” as he is standing on a ridge of a mountain after climbing through waist to chest height snow, while carrying a cameras after spending the past night and day building in his van ... foresty the GOAT!
Hey man, you probably wont see this but I'm struggling hardcore with anxiety / life but its nice to hop onto RU-vid every single week to see a brand new video by you. Thanks for everything you do and all the hard work it literally helps keep me sane sometimes. Cheers from Toronto!
Hi Forest Another great video. I'm in hell with my life. Being lied and cheated on. With someone who is my world. Through my constant pain. You bring me a moment of peace. Thank you Forest. God bless stay safe
You should have a “spot” emergency beacon, from what I can tell you don’t carry anything to protect yourself... mountain lions can be very dangerous especially in winter when food is scarce, should carry a good hunting knife with at least a 7 to 8 inch blade as well as bear spray... some animals are very opportunistic ✌🏻🇨🇦 safe travels
Stay safe Foresty forest, doing solo walks , whilst holding a self stick , can make you easily distracted , on a side note the views are spectacular when you do trek .
I wish those episodes were longer or would come more frequently. Can’t believe there’s not enough to film... like daily routine, more van and nature cinematics, hows shopping in Canada right now, what do you do all day long, etc. I just wish there was more. :)
I think I’ll try your cabbage casserole in my instant pot. Won’t need to dirty a separate pot to brown the meat. That can easily be done right in the instant pot.
I think if the area under the bed becomes really cold it would create condensation on the bed box, also under your mattress, as humidity gets everywhere. I have this situation in my boat, so I am keeping the area under the bed ventilated with normal i.e. warm air in winter.
Re reducing... Sure you can get warmer air by doing that, but currently your heater is drawing warmer air down and under the bed and keeping it drier and ventilated. If you reduct then that area will become colder and stagnant... condensation. Be well. Great channel.
