More tutorials! They are so clear (no pun intended) not only for the steps but the purpose of each step so you can troubleshoot. And the decal mistake makes us amateurs feel better that its not only us making mistakes like that, but the difference is experts have good ways to handle mistakes built from experience.

This same techniques works well with the Andy's HHQ 1/16 Sherman...Sherman paint was pretty durable and didn't chip as we think of normal chipping in armor modeling, but had a more worn look. If you do the Sherman in Tamiya dark green and Tamiya olive drab, you can get some really nice wear effects that are highly realistic looking. Panzermeister36 has an awesome tutorial on on the effect.

I always used the hairspray technique with my whitewash chipping. I was hoping that you would explain some advantage to the Mig product over hairspray but it seems that there is really no difference.
@daspanzer135
@daspanzer135 Год назад
I found that you can get more refined and smaller chips if you use the mig product. Hairspray still works great for slightly larger chips though.
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 Год назад
@@daspanzer135I have found the exact opposite. I got much finer chips with hairspray, and I have a much longer working time before the fluid solidified. The chipping fluid produced larger, more rounded chips and dried up much faster.

Nice job Andy ! I think the guys in the German tanks and armour in WW 2 became experts in camouflage painting. I read that a directive usually came down the chain of command every 3-4 months on what type of camouflage pattern to apply for a given area of operation. It was up to the individual crews to put the paint on. A tutorial on how to apply bullet /cannon strikes and shrapnel marks on the hull would be great if you have any advice on it. It's rare you see it added to the broken fenders etc. I have tried in plastic card, but I just dont seem to get the result I want. I stood beside a Grant tank some years back which had literally been "Peppered" by some sort of explosion close by. There were 1-2" holes all over the front and side of it. I wondered if anybody made it out alive.

Great video, but there is no need to seal the base paints with a varnish before the chipping fluid is applied. The chipping fluid itself is essential a clear coat, but very weak due to being water soluble. When you rub with the wet brush you are dissolving the hairspray. There is no interaction between the hairspray and the base paint on the model, so the varnish is just a waste of time and money in my experience. This is especially true as Tamiya paints are incredibly durable on their own.
@KnjazGromowladny
@KnjazGromowladny Год назад
Exactly, you should put a varnish when your base colour is acrilic (like Ammo Mig, blue Hataka, AK 3rd Gen).

Do I need to use hairspray? Do you think I could achieve this by just putting on a clear coat from a rattle can, then spraying the tank white, and then just rub some of the paint off with alcohol?

Andy...Your drawing has me completely stymied. I cannot make heads or tails of it, I looked at it while standing on my head, not good, then rotating the TV 180 deg., also not good. Of course I'm joshing y'all, it's a good video tutorial. Man they sure are coming out with so many new products. They're going to make these videos redundant. The paints and highlighting will apply themselves, ha ha.

I have used „washable white“ from Ammo of mig on an Kingtiger. Worked greate and is basically the same stuff the „Wehrmacht“ used. Let it dry and then carefully wash the paint away. For me the effect with the chipping medium let the white paint appear non water-soluble.

Three things. First, good tutorial. Second, I was in your store Friday and wondered if forgot a couple jars of Tamiya paint, including gold leaf,c and third, I took a long look at your AHHQ Tiger on the counter and the videos don't do the models justice. That is some model and some build and paint job/weathering. Can I have it? LOL

I think it would work better with real acrylic paint (Ammo, AK, etc.) instead of Tamiya.
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 Год назад
No, Tamiya paint chips much better (alcohol-base acrylic). You will get much finer chips and it looks more realistic. Water-based acrylics like Vallejo, Mig AMMO, etc. tends to flake off in big ugly sheets and doesn't look like in-scale chipping at all.
