Winterbottom made one of the greatest comebacks in rugby…on the 83’ Lions Tour as one of the exciting new players, injuries and lack of form then kept him out of the England set up for most of the 80's but made a massive turn around in time for 93’ tour, by then well over 30 and he was better than he was 10 years earlier.....
NO THEY DAMN WELL DON'T! He also played and was well respected by the Boks having played provincial stuff with the then Transvaal and also Hawkes Bay in NZ as a youngster. He was even presented with "Man of the Seies" by the Blacks coach Bryce Rope when the Lions were whitewashed in '83. A magnificent and hard as nails player!

Winters was at Headingley plying his trade at his parents far in Grassington at the time Carling came onto the scene prior to both joining Quins!
Not at that time they didn't. Wints joined Quins from Headingley at the start of the 88 season. Played against each other when Yorks player Durham in the old counties rep comp.
