Thank you brother for having this posted. I have a 1992 and I was having a hard time finding anything on the fuel filter conversion kit or specifically draining my year of boat engine. Super helpful even years later.
DRAIN it! I used to let it suck antifreeze until it spit out the exhaust and it worked great right up to the last year when the block cracked. Michigan winters can be brutal!
Trey Salsbury you should drain and fill it with antifreeze. I'm guessing there was some water left somewhere in the system that wasn't flushed out. You could even use an air compressor to get some water out. I do that with my travel trailer.
I have the same year and model engine in a SeaRay 200BR. I want to install a float switch on the bilge pump to protect against flooding when on a buoy for a few days. Any videos to help?
+Patchicago82 Muffs connected and engine running. This is spelled out within the video on slide by slide detail instructions that identify the engine running. With that said you obviously will Shutt the engine off before you try and remove hoses, etc.
Not overkill - Keep in mind these videos are done with what is considered the proper way for everyone, not always the quickest or easiest for an isolated case. When you drain the system first you then limit the amount of antifreeze you have to run back into the system and you know the exact dilution of antifreeze you have in the system. If you leave the water in the system first you never know for certain what temperature you are protected against.
how can I get at the starboard drain plug when my particular boat has the carpeted 2x4 (i assume) frame around the motor compartment? any hints or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Ty
+Cory Larson Man Cory I hate to hear that. Many boat builders set the engine in and literally build the boat around it so this happens from time to time. Unfortunately I don't have any special tricks because each one is so different.
Performance Product Technologies dang!! thank you so much for the quick reply!! I really appreciate it and it's a great video! I am a female I must say!! I just got myself this little boat and am trying to maintain it and learn as much as I can! I pretty knowledgeable (for a girl I hear that all the time) but don't want to make a huge mistake with a cracked block or manifold from ice!! thanks again...I may have to dismantle the frame....yuck..👎
I was told to add STA BIl to the gas tank to store - is your ethonal treatment different?why did you run the engine, just to get the fuel cleaner in the engine right?strange that my 4.3L merc is flipped, battery/starter on different side
apcs222 Old comment but no, you don't have to drain the antifreeze. Just put it in the lake and go, fresh water will be pumped in and push out the antifreeze.
This boat was moved to a location that never sees temps lower than 75 degrees but is salt water. After a thorough fresh water flush should I still drain engine cooling system??? What would happen inside engine with water in there, boat will sit minimally 4-6 months between uses.
Great video!!! Followed this and boat survived last 2 Chicago winters with no issue. For me I found it easier to disconnect the power steering hose at the other end (back by behind engine).
Hmm,.. overkill?. When i had raw water cooling i just let the engine suck glycol 50/50. When the water in the exhaust turned blue/green, i turned it off. It worked for me in 10 years. -10 to -25 degree celcius in winter time. Now i have closed cooling...
