Thank you brother for having this posted. I have a 1992 and I was having a hard time finding anything on the fuel filter conversion kit or specifically draining my year of boat engine. Super helpful even years later.
I know this is an old video but can someone tell me why drain it first? Why not just get the engine up to operating temp and then run antifreeze through it?
13mm trim tab anode bolt. 1/4” drive. Also, the alignment for the gear shift is important. You have to stick your hand in there as seen in video, but not mentioned.
This procedure also applies to several tow boats with direct- and v-drive inboards and engine-mounted pumps like my 1995 350 EFI Magnum Tournament Ski. I pull the the whole pump and use dish soap for the impeller.
Was it easier to remove pump? Did you have to loosen the belts? My impeller housing cracked and I’m about to replace it myself just looking for the easy way and how to do it lol
Terrible advice from this video. Was probably created by an AI bot. There are at least 5 other things more likely to cause a no spark condition other than the coil. Coils are almost NEVER the problem in this kind of motor.
Great video!! I am not wanting to remove the wiring as my wires appear good but the guts are not. Bought new Merc parts.. The alignment mark part is not clear.. ..Is it the space between the teeth?? One of my new ones came where the actual tooth is on the mark. And the other one, the space between the teeth is lined up on the mark.. Plz advise..
Do you have any idea if the prop shaft on one of these would fit inside the gear case of an old 200 black max? I’d really like to have the dual prop set up on my flats boat so it could hole shot better and run really shallow.
check the kill switch by pulling the two wires off the back of it and connecting them together: this will bypass the kill switch. if it starts then go buy a new kill switch. also turn ignition to ON and check the positive lead on the coil with a test lamp by .ground one end of test lamp to neg battery terminal and the probe end on positive side of coil, do this with the negative side of coil wires removed...if lamp lights up bright, your coil is good and your ignition switch is also good...if you also had the kill switch connected normally..it to is good.. this will leave your point gaps as the problem..they are probably way to far apart..or fouled plugs or timing way to far off..coils are usually very strong and dont fail much..but point gap can become way off and cause no starts.
Is that a 2001? my 1999 df70 looks the same and I think I need a new VST also, but my worse problem is I have an oil leak thats dripping out of the front of motor and spewing oily soot in the water exit at the prop, fouling my plugs,,wondering if its my oil pump seals, maybe you have advise? Other than that compression is good
Hey question I have this engine 96/97 305 mercruiser. I see others from that year and they look different liie the belt tightener is by the power steering pump /tank on mine and others I see have it on the bottom right of the engine and belts are run completely different stuff like that lol kind of odd 😂 cheers from Miami
Do you have any oil change videos with this particular motor? My oil filter is in the same spot as yours and have found zero videos on changing the oil
Can you tell me how to measure the trim limit on 1985 Mercruiser 260 outdrive serial #6911225. Everything I am finding is for th Alpha Drive or Bravo drive
