Kai Hahto is now also the drummer for Nightwish and the bass player Jukka Kuskinen is also now playing with Nightwish.

First: You are correct ! Kai Hahto "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto is Nightwish Drummer (2019 - ...). Also the Bass Player Jukka "The gentle Giant" Koskinen (2022 - ...), now the tallest member in Nightwish ! I absolutely love seeing people react to Wintersun for the first time, and react with such jaw-dropping surprise to all the different parts, melodies, and compositional layers (upon layers), that went into making this gorgeous masterpiece. For me the transitions with Jari's range from growls to clean vocals is just phenomenally flawless. And wonderful Kai, like a human Machine Gun! The stories their songs tell is just as amazing.. A true 'gallop off on a quest' across snow-swept wintery landscapes, this song has always filled my heart to bursting with love and pure enjoyment. One of the most beautifully epic songs you will ever hear in metal. I saw an interview where Kai Hahto was asked: - Now that in Nightwish, how come you don't do that incredible stuff you did on Wintersun? He laughed and answered: - You don't do things because you CAN, you do what serves the song. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

Correct, drummer Kai Hahto is now in Nightwish. Bassist Jukka Koskinen is also, replacing Marko, although his beard is much bigger now. Finnish band formed in 2003 by lead singer Jari Maenpaa (ex- Ensiferum). Jari contracted Tuberculosis during his military service ,losing part of a lung. Lead guitarist is Teemu Mantysaari. Jukka is still listed as an active member, Kai has been on hiatus since 2017. Time, is one of their most requested songs for reactions. It is also played at this session, along with Land of Snow and Sorrow.

Drummer Kai Hahto is a professional drummer, drumtech, teacher (especially the ergonomics of playing) and clinician. In the -90's he played bands like Winds, Cartilage, Vomiturition etc. In 1995 to approx 2005 he was in a grind band Rotten Sound (check out "Obey" live) and for a few years in Enochian Crescent. Then there was Swallow The Sun, Vaasa Big Band, Max On The Rox, Wintersun..... and now in Nightwish. Kai and Nightwish composer, keyboardist Tuomas has been also in Darkwoods My Betrothed since 2020

There's a drum playthrough of Kai doing this, well actually Kai being filmed playing alongside a backing track of this song for a special filmed event.

Liked your reaction! Yes, check out the Tuska 2013 version of Winter Madness for an amazing solo, video from close to the stage and good sound from the board for an excellent feeling of being there. Yari stopped singing and playing live because it 'was exhausting', and when you see the difficulty of the guitar parts done together with such impassioned vocals, one can definitely appreciate that. All of the guys are top-shelf musicians, no question about that, either. Can't go wrong with Finnish folk metal, either.

Wintersun guitar solos? Let me see.. winter madness is of course the first one that comes to mind but battle against time,death and the healing,time,the way of the fire,beautiful death,"storm"...but my favourite is eternal darkness solo,not really over the top but it sounds hauntingly beautiful

Hello ! Thank you for reacting an accurate comments. I like a lot of Wintersun as Nightwish too. I´ve been following your journey within NW music and also It has been interesting to watch to. This band blew me away. My favorite has to be 'Time'. I like that because of the different sounds/moods the band put in their songs, it becomes an auditory adventure. Something you also hear in symphonic metal. But it's impossible to put this band in one metal sub genre box. Like you said, influences from different metal styles. I delicious metal soup. lol

I give you 🌲/5 for recognizing Nordic black metal influences! Jari, the singer here, composed and played all instruments on that album except drums and he comes from the early Finnish extreme metal community that had black metal, folk metal and death metal in it. He's born 1977, so had plenty of time to draw influences in the 1990s already. Another soul, now already passed, from those circles was Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom who has an internationally recognized metal guitarist. If Norway is known for black metal and Sweden for (melodic) death metal, Finland might be for mixing folk metal with all the other styles of metal 😀. Like Nightwish was to be a folk rock/metal band until Tuomas figured Tarja's voice was so powerful it demanded a bit more powerful instruments, too, but the folk elements have always been there and with Troy now more than ever.

Guitar solos. They have very complex ones. Time from the same session or Winter Madness from their first album, that solo is just insane. And the solo from Way of the Fire, only on unofficial video for now. Truly excellent band.

Well since you do Nightwish and seen Marko on it i would suggest checking a particular song grom the band he was lead vocalist in together with his brother also being in the band. The band called Tarot and the song called Tides (and near the end has a very nice solo)

structure of wintersun's songs is many times not standard, its not intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-outro or any variant, its more a series of infinite transitions, so theres no solo, or, depending how you see it, there are many brief solos

You need to listen Time from same rehersal. There is really cool guitar, bass and drum solos on it with cool vocals. I presonally think that is better song then this. Teemu (bluish Ibanez) is now Megadeth guitarist. Bass player is also in Nightwish now and ofcourse Kai playing Nightwish drums.
