Don Henley shot the video for his biggest solo hit at an old country house outside of Dallas that my friends owned. During the week of shooting, he acted like an ass to everyone involved, the fans, and the owners of the house. Lots of indications that he was loaded on H the whole time. He’s a douche, and I’ve never been able to support him or the Eagles since.
Well, everyone knows some of the Eagles members had huge egos and were always arguing for creative control over each other, so I suppose it’s no surprise they want to exert as much control over their fans as they can.
On one hand, I don't like the idea that the Eagles are so militant about people taking photos or videos of their concerts. On the other hand, I am old enough to remember that before everyone had a smartphone, nobody was allowed to take pictures or video or even sound recordings of ANY live concert, except for The Grateful Dead, who allowed people to tape their live shows. So....maybe we're all feeling a little bit entitled these days?
People like Don Henley need to be called out on video. They need to be told straight to their faces that it a dick move to do that to fans. No bullshit or diplomacy, just the cold truth.
The San Francisco venue is Cafe Du Nord. Sold out. Scalpers are asking $380. Glad I got my tix the instant they went on sale. The LA venue was already changed to a location with twice the capacity of the original venue.
Don Henley ruined his entire life. Welcome to the deep state of the music industry. Go away forever old man. Felder the Florida boy was always the best one in that average band. Nobody will remember them soon. Who would even pay to see the Eagles anyway? Lip syncing losers playing to tape
I think it's bullshit, the fans are well within their rights to film snippets and if they didn't want the fans to do it then maybe these over paid pricks should've sprung for the phone locks. 🤷
Why does Henley look so much like Richard Attenborough from Jurassic Park now? You could literally have him play the character, and then have Richard's brother David do a voice over for the lines lol
Eagles wrote some of the best songs to bless this earth , But Don wrote the Book on Asshole Rockstar ! well him and his lawyers ! better not forget them ill get sued !
I produce commercials for a living, but began my career in the early 90s as a music video producer. About my third job in, I was producing a music video for Jackson Browne, who was incredibly nice to the entire crew, by the way. At about 8am, Jackson walks up to me and tells me that Don Henley was going to be stopping by at about noon to appear in the video. This was a complete surprise, but the record company quickly approved the cost of getting Henley his own motorhome. The motorhome arrived about 10am, and I had Production Assistants prep the motorhome. That is, put a bouquet of flowers in there as well as a fruit basket and some drinks in the fridge, etc. Being the Producer on the job, I was pretty nervous and I personally checked the motorhome to make sure everything was in order. But being a NEWBIE Producer, I checked his MoHo a SECOND TIME to double check all was in top shape and ready for him to relax until he was needed on set. Anyway, Henley arrives via his car service at about noon to Jackson’s grandfather’s house where we were filming, and I walked out to the curb to greet him and show him to his motorhome. I was pretty nervous and after my initial greeting with him, I mentioned that his motorhome had arrived, but that I was just going to triple check to make sure everything was good to go. I knew it was, but I was a 22 year old kid and was very nervous. As soon as I told him that I was going to triple check his motorhome he glanced at me with a look of distain and had the nerve to say, “my motorhome better be fucking ready.” I bit my tongue did a quick but probably needless third check of the motorhome and let him know that it was good to enter. I never spoke to him for the rest of the day, but I remember thinking that he was a very mean person and left me with a less than positive image of a songwriter that I practically idolized before then. From this RU-vid video, it sounds like he’s as big an asshole now as he’s ever been. My story happened about 30 years ago, and I still can’t listen to his music without remembering what a turd of a man he is. Jackson on the other hand, was amazing and filled with kindness and nonstop stories for the crew. I actually had the honor of sitting on the front porch with him during lunch as he explained how he wrote his song The Pretender, on that very porch and that the ice cream truck that he references in the song lyrics was literally an ice cream truck that would come down that very street and park across the street from the porch we were sitting at. WOW! (Says the Jackson Browne fan!) I’ve since worked with scores of huge-name celebrities, and that absolutely remains one of my fondest memories. Back to Henley: I just don’t understand why someone that’s been so blessed in his life, can’t shine a small ray of light on the world and instead CHOOSES to be the grouchy-turd-person that he’s always been and continues to be. Oh, if that would have happened ten years later in my career, I would have told him to f*ck off and walked away. * I’ve had to tell one or two celebs FU for their rudeness. 89% just want to do their job but are polite. 10% are very nice and go out of their way to brighten up the day of those around them. But, as with everything and everyone in life: it’s that 1% that can ruin an otherwise nice day. Be kind to one another, folks!!
The eagles music was pretty great in the 90's. After learning this... I Lost all respect for them. What a joke. Music is meant to be shared. They don't make enough money apparently.
Regardless of whatever the reason, either don't play live,or embrace the ways of the modern masses for we can not control the ways of the times when it is beyond our ability to effectively do anything about it without having to go through costly and painstakingly time consuming efforts that would have little to no effect and eventually drive one crazy with frustration.
Yawn...Eagles...Yawn....Boomer....Yawn. Death Metal, that old shit is dead and buried. I am 58, and that old shit is old shit. Far better musicians existed then and now.
If I was using backing tracks, I would at least do a few different versions of each song to mix it up a little. Henley is still using the same one from at least 2018.
They better not show up at a festival somewhere because they aren't going to be able control any of that in that setting. Henley and others being hall monitors just aggravates people and it doesn't really protect or honor their music.

There are a number of young people who had channels reacting to older music that got ended after years of content whom have said they would have happily complied if they had been warned. Some got multiple strikes that were 'retro active' which is youtube's fault for allowing the unflagged videos to stay in their back catalogue. 'Boomer' music is being embraced by black kids today and Henley is tanking a demographic they otherwise would never had reached. Smart business, Don. #Brad&Lex
The Eagles posted on Facebook about their engagement in Las Vegas. I replied, "Will Don Henley be lip synching"? Deacon Frey "Liked" my comment. I find that very telling.
Don Henley is the reason I will never buy the eagles music, nor will it be played through and speakers I own. Grew up hearing them and loved it………BUT F**k DON HENLEY!!!!!
Maybe afraid of having lip syncing proof. I remember paying $45 for floor seats at a Pink Floyd show in 1994 that had epic over the top effects and the Eagles were charging $95 dollars to see them on stage with no extras as far as lighting etc. I d never pay for a ticket to see them because clearly they dont mind raking their fans.
