Wireless bridge mode is a feature that’s built into a wifi router that wirelessly connects 2 networks together and makes them one network. And it does this by using a router’s wireless signal to connect to another router’s signal to bridge the 2 networks together.

You’re awesome. I was jobless and depressed for sometime. I ran into your videos 2 years ago. Since then I was inspired and got into tech. Currently studying for the Security + and PMP certifications. I’m also learning a lot about hardware from your comptia videos! Tech is so fun! I want to get into blockchain as it’s amazing tech. Maybe someday you’ll cover it too. PS: I showed a couple of my students your cloud video, they were hooked! They studied IT in primary school but were blown away by how simple you made understanding it.

Great video. I used to flash some old Linksys routers have with the DD-WRT firmware and setup wireless bridge mode. Another use case for this is to connect devices that don't have wifi built-in but need internet access AND you can't run a cable from the device to the router. I used to have a Sony Blu-Ray player that could connect to the internet via ethernet or through a nearly $100 USB wifi adapter that only worked with certain player models. With my wireless bridge I was able to connect my Blu-Ray player to the internet without having to run an ethernet cable across the hous. Nowadays, most devices have wifi built-in so its not that big of an issue anymore, but it still can come in handy. Pretty cool stuff to learn and play with.

The video was well done EXCEPT there was no discussion about wireless signal strength. Trying to get a wireless signal from a SOHO router from one building to another is likely not possible because the signal likely won't be strong enough. Also, if the signal is only 2 bars in strength, that means all connections going through the bridge (wired or wireless) will be limited in speed to the 2 bars of signal from the distant router. I also would have liked to see the option of buying a wireless bridge to connect two routers over greater distances, which would likely be required in the example shown here to get a much stronger (and therefore FASTER) signal from one router to the other.
@SickPrid3

All you need is external signal booster or repeaters on both ends. If you have access to roof of both buildings the best choice would be directional antennas.

One thing that should be noted. The routers DO NOT HAVE TO BE THE SAME. I just bridged an old two band Linksys router with a new D-Link tri-band router. I have a desktop that relied on a small USB wireless adapter...a less than ideal internet solution. I connected to the ethernet port on the Linksys router and now have 1 gbs. The bridge mode on some routers give more than one security protocol to bridge with...WPA2 was the best choice for this configuration.

My concern with this is people will use a couple of old routers they have kicking around (I have 2 802.11g only), which will limit performance. If they decide to buy new ones, they will likely spend more than using the proper sort of equipment. WiFi gear, designed specifically for point to point links, costs less than many new routers and will likely do a better job. They will also support PoE, so you don't need AC power nearby. We have some of those on my condo property, for security cameras.

@allenperera6158
@allenperera6158 2 года назад
Bridge Mode is explained in this video. Basically joining two networks together. AP 'Client Mode' is acting like a USB Wi-Fi dongle but receiving packets using LAN Port(s) (Think of PCs, Printers, TVs with LAN Ports) instead of USB Ports. You can add a Network switch to the AP in 'Client Mode" to expand to extra PCs/TVs Etc... I'll give u an example. Let's say I would like to put my Printer which has a LAN port but no built in Wi-Fi, in another room to save space but I don't want to pull a network cable. So I'll just buy a cheapo Wi-Fi extender and configure it as Client mode and link to the main router via 2.4ghz. From the Extender's buttocks i patch a network cable to the printer and Voila, there you have it. In the Future I may want to add a network switch to it's buttocks to expand more LAN ports for a PC and TV.

Just a clarifying question: When the remote wirelessly bridged device broadcasts its own Wi-Fi signal, doesn't the SSID and have to be different from the Wi-Fi SSID in the Main Office? Otherwise wouldn't the two Wi-Fi networks SSIDs conflict with each other? I'm new to this....
