I love the AVX system. We use it at work and I have a setup for personal use as well. only limit is the max of 8 systems (12 in EU models) running in any one area. Works great for us but the limit could be problem for use in large settings (cons, trade shows, etc) where there could be others using them as well. For those working in those environments, the G3 might be a better option. for the batteries the desktop charger is a must have. you just drop the handheld or body pack in the cradle and it charges.

Great review: I have the Sennheiser G2&G3 - Great MICS! I decided to try the SaramonicI dual channel lav mics. After some comparison, I noticed that excessive “white noise” with the Saramonic. Also the dual receiver would not provide separate audio lines, if used with an XLR to your camera. I am going back to Sennheiser and will purchase the Sennheiser AVX Digital Wireless System - ME2 Lavalier Set. **Thanks for your great reviews which help us make wise media choices!**

Hi there -I use a Sennheiser wireless with a DSLR camera for my RU-vid videos. I have a problem with "hiss". I've managed to tweak the cam settings to get it to a minimum but I can never get rid of it completely. Any suggestions?

I am very enthusiastic about the Sennheiser AVX, which I use to have my college course in math recorded. It is solid like a rock, both in the metal build and in reliability. A few tech notes: The batteries last a long time, I got some extras, and recharge them all once a week, via USB. The receiver turns itself on and off by sensing the phantom power of the video camera. The system is one to one, i.e. you need a transmitter and receiver for each device. There is a 19 ms lag, presumably due to the continuous automatic search for good channels. 19ms is quite small - the time for echo from a wall 10 feet away - and since it is constant, it can be eliminated in post production quite easily, if you need to. The system never overloads. No matter how loud the mic input, it is transmitted without transmission distortion to the receiver. The Sennheiser basic ME2 is good and the pro MKE2 excellent. The handheld mic in the Sennheiser mic-receiver kit has no mute, one with a mute can be bought in separate parts at a total cost fo $250 extra. The system is so reliable you forget about it. So I have to have the student who operates the camera remind me to put on the lapel mic and turn it on.

How would AVX work in a more urban environment where there is a lot of traffic, people, wifis and other signal causing yours to be weaker and losing line of sight constantly ? Would the sound break ? Which microphone would you suggest that doesn't have this problem and doesn't lose signal frequently ? Cause i bought RODE Filmmaker and the signal is actually really weak when you lose line of sight at around 10 meters it starts getting bad already

I was going to purchase the G4 but found out about the analog frequency license needed and possibilities of legal action if you don't have this or accidentally use the wrong frequency, that's just too much stress. And thanks for also pointing this out in your video. Will definitely go with this digital solution.

Hey Sean! I am doing fitness videos inside - it's quiet, but I am sometimes turned away from the camera and usually at least 4-6feet away. Do you think the sennheiser would work? Or would even a rhode on a boom work? Thanks for the great videos!

You can't run the reciever on phantom power if the battery is dead, you can just turn it on/off by phantom power. But great review.

The presence of phantom power from your camera (if using straight XLR connection) is just to indicate to the receiver that it should turn on/off - it doesn't actually power the receiver; you still need to keep the battery charged. But the phantom power coming from your XLR port can turn the receiver on and off, thus saving battery for you. Other than that, great video - thanks! :)

You're right: NO phantom powering for the AVX receiver! 👍🏻 That's the most important thing one has to keep in account, together with the one-by-one spec. You cannot send one transmitter signal to multiple receivers. Every paired system will work within one tx to just one rx! That said AVX by Sennheiser is a vey solid system for eng work, anyway you cannot get the superior dynamics as with tha analog G systems because the AVX cuts away the lowest frequencies, flattening every sound.

Compared to the Rode wireless (Which audioqualitywise is garbage) - Can i use the lavalier on my shirt and at the same time the Handheld mic to do street interviews and getting the signal of both into the Camera on the left and right Audiotrack with the sennheiser Set? Or will i need two receivers and an extra audio recording device to get a Lavalier on my shirt and the handheld mic? Thanks for an Answer in Advance.

Great videos! You're videos are very helpful! Quick question since you would know best! I want to start filming videos, specifically for example makeup videos. I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3 and a kit lens (Canon Zoom Lens EF-5 18-55 mm). Is this a good camera and/or lens? Can you guide me by telling me if I need a new body or lens for filming? Or both? Thanks for the great informative video. I’m a photography guy and know little when it comes to audio. I wanted to ask a sound question. My 12 yr old daughter is a singer, she sings at different public events. If she was going to sing at a school in the middle of the field the National Anthem, would I use a mic like this to record her, or say something like the sennheiser mke-440? I want to get the music track as well as her voice. I’m kinda stuck, any help advice would help. Thank you. John

Nice Piece - Im not a pro Videographer but a Pro Photographer wanting to get a system for some of the requests I get for Weddings and some conference work. I hope Senn is paying you because it was a clear informative promotion which will motivate the likes of me to buy a kit. Question - is there any set up with an on camera mic that yields good sound, presently im using a Rode and I have a Senn which is ok for some situations if there inset much background noise? Thanks! Very informative. I record in studio and on site at client's location. For me, the audio cannot and must not fail. I rather have no video then no audio. No video I can use b-rolls. But no audio, I am toasted. :P Therefore, I am investing in super reliable audio gear because I want my client to have great recording experience with me.

Quick question... During wedding speeches can/how does this connect up to venues sound board?. So that you are recording while at the same time the audio is coming through venues speakers?

Connect the mic to the soundboard. Probably XLR input. Then record audio off the board with something like the Zoom H4n. That is one way to do it.

I want this thing bad, I hate it when I accidently have my boom in the shot and I don't see in my camera screen. Then I gotta crap in a tiny bit. So I could get a monitor but this is cheaper and easier. Plus gives me freedom to move around my "set"
