In this video, we are checking out the brand new Shure GLXD+ Wireless System, and more specifically the GLXD16+. which is meant to be used with your pedalboard. So it acts as your wireless receiver as well as your tuner, and is a very smart design. Also, my friend Grayson Erhard is using this system currently on the road with Adelita's Way right now, and we are going to check in with him to see how it's working. There are many different configurations for this system. In this video, I will be going over the pedalboard version of the GLXD+. I have been using one of these systems since around 2015 and it has always performed flawlessly. I have the GLXD6-Z2 receiver and the GLXD1-Z2 transmitter. It does operate in the 2.4GHz band and to date I have not had any issues with interference. Still using the original battery :) I'm still using it for all gigs. Not low cost (especially in Australia) but highly recommended.

Just subscribed. This was super helpful. I just purchased this system based solely on one product overview by Pete Thorn (which was awesome), but when I got the system, there very little instruction provided. Went on tour with this bad boy and started having drop outs. Hopped off the stage and grabbed an instrument cable from the other band's and just did the rest of the show wired using the pass through (something that the original didn't have and the reason I never bought it). After reading the manual I figured out how to scan for channels and didn't have another dropout for the rest of the tour. Read you manuals lol

Nice review here. Been using my Line 6 Relay G50 for 10 years but recently started using a wireless IEM system. Had several dropout issues despjte changing channels, RF modes and repositioning transmitters and receivers. Putting it down to the 2.4ghz band getting interference from other wireless devices. Thinking of getting this one as it has the 5.8ghz band too but have seen people still having drop out issues despite the newer additions.

I’ve been using the previous 2.4 unit for years. I had one time where I had some drop out but just switched channels and was back in business. I have 3 packs and love the quick and easy guitar switching. I switch between acoustic and electric some. Going into the Helix is killer. May get a new one now that they are dual band.

This was the question I had. Can you use multiple transmitters with a single reciever. Your comment suggests this is possible. I prefer to have a backup guitar ready to go with it own strap/reciever. Question: is there a reciever "Mute" button for the backup guitar or do you turn off one and on the other? Thanks!

@@ScottUhlMusic Out of all the 2.4GHz systems, the old Shure GLXD was king. I was looking to buy one about a year ago and learned that they discontinued it. However, I knew they would come out with a replacement, so I decided to wait. Now it's finally available, and it exceeds my expectations since it's dual band. I've ordered it from Sweetwater, and I should receive it in a few days.

Played a show outdoors with this system. I ran it on 5.8 because the other musician was using the legacy model. Well it cut out once for me! Never had any cut-outs with the old system! Not once!!

@@ScottUhlMusic because that's the only way to have it work alongside the legacy system! You have no choice but use 5.8. I've confirmed that with the support team, as well as the manual saying the same. Our bassist uses Shure GLXD16, so I have no choice.

I actually like the detune function. I just played with a group that tunes to Eb and I personally didn’t want to see the flats. I know you said you prefer to see it, but not me. My other main tuner is a Peterson and I use the “capo” function on that all the time for the same reason. Whether using a capo or tuning down, I’m still thinking through standard tuning ie. E A D G

I've been wireless for yrs. Now my system is a AKG wireless bug system with battery powered receiver that starts my P board and a 5.8 Getaria rechargeable wireless out of board to amp. Been using this setup for 2 yrs w/o problems. Also have enough AKG bug systems to equip a whole band, 3 guitars, bass, keyboard, mic. Even could set up electric drum kit. Eliminates tripping on more cords on the ground.

Hey Scott, really good video! I have a comment and two questions. The input jack feature is a needed addition. I had the older 2.4 GHz version and bought the 16+ because of its dual-band capability and the input jack. My comment is that if you plug an instrument into the jack, that will automatically keep the wireless transmitter from working. So, you can't keep a cord plugged into the jack if you want to use the transmitter. My questions are first, do you have to link the transmitter to the receiver before every use? I linked it the first time I turned it on, following your video, and the units seamlessly connected, so do you have to go through that every time? I didn't have to do that with the older version. My second question is that just about every time I scan for channels (I just got it today, so I'm learning all about it before our next show this coming Friday), the group number stays the same (as it should), and the channel read-out is generally a letter (so far A-E) rather than a number. When will a number show up on the channel read-out? Is a letter assigned to one band and a number the other band (for example, is a letter designating a 5.8 GHz band that was found and a number indicates a 2.4 band)? Thanks for any advice you might be able to give me!

I’ve got this system a few weeks ago and haven’t seen any video that mentions the usb-c connection at the receiver, my guess is that you can upgrade the system firmware trough there but want to confirm if there’s another use for that. Thanks a lot for this video, specially on the consideration of getting extra cables and batteries as they’re specifically made for SHURE equipment.

I love this one, but with the GTRS since my pedalboard is Bluetooth and doesn’t need power, probably not. But anytime I use my hx stomp I will very likely use this one 🤘 My other one is 2x the price and has more channels on UHF, so both work well.

I have the older version of this system so doesn't have the 1/4" in for bypassing the wireless. I've never used the tunings function. I just use my Quad Cortex for that but it's a nifty feature. I've also never been able to get into the settings mode but it's been working fine as-is for a many years now. Great wireless system that's been on my board since 2021. Oh, I use the right angle cable about 95% of the time.

I haven’t used both of them at once with this. But if you have a second guitar already hooked up to it and want to switch to the second guitar, that’s a cool feature about this pedal. On top of you can switch to a cable very quickly if you are in a very challenging RF environment 🤘

This is a killer unit. I personally own a Line6 G70 and love it for the same offerings other than the 5.8g option. Not sure if you ever reviewed the G70. Unfortunately, Yamaha killed it off after take over.

Great vid Scott. I just got one. I do have a question that does not seem to be covered. When changing channels, sometimes it displays a number, sometimes it displays a letter. What does that mean? I cannot find this info on Shure’s website or in the manual.

That’s just how it labels the channels. 1-9 or A-F or whatever it goes to. You can’t fit 1-20 on the screen, so they switch to letters at that point 👍

Hi, I just got one of these and I am impressed so far. Only thing is, on mine, the jack lead at the pin connection side, the sleeve that you get to screw on and secure is a pain to get on. The sleeve doesn't want to screw on and catch on the thread very easy at all. Did you find this with this too? Thanks

@@ScottUhlMusic Well, it just wouldn't connect properly. The blue RF LED would flash almost non-stop. I'd just switched from the Line 6 G50 systems, as they'd been acting up lately. They worked great for about 6-7 years. I bought 2 of the the GLDX16+ systems, as I was convinced they would do the job. They just didn't work out for me. I worked with a Shure engineer over about a 2 week period and he wanted to see them for himself. Perhaps a bad run?? Neither of my new systems would work. I had 6 straight nights of shows over fourth of July weekend. I couldn't get through the first song any of those nights. Every night, as soon as we started, my signal was audibly 'fluttering'. The fluttering sound was locked onto the flashing rate of the RF LED. I switched to a Westshell G7 I keep around as an emergency backup & it worked fine every single time. My band is pretty big with a large wireless network. In fact, we have (3) other GLXD/GLXD+ systems on guitars and they all work great! I was motivated to get mine working but the Shure engineer agreed that we'd done all we could. I love the input/wireless bypass jack. The tuner is superb! It locks onto a note super fast and it's bright enough to see clearly in direct sunlight. I hated that I had to throw in the towel, as I personally know many people that have tremendous success with this exact unit. We do have a ton of wireless devices, across all spectrums. (3) wireless guitars, (4) wireless vocal mics, a wireless midi device, (9) wireless IEM's plus a powerful WIFI router with a paddle antenna/amplifier for FOH control. It's a lot to contend with. I just cant figure out why the other (3) GLXD/GLDX+ systems always worked great but mine did not. Hopefully the (2) I bought are back into the Shure engineer's hands for testing. Thanks for listening. I've reached a point of obsession:-)

curious to what you're saying around 7:15, I didn't think you could have a 1/4" plugged in and still use the transmitter wireless? Thought it was one or the other? Would love to have it hard wired on my board to the main 1/4" board input and still use it on bigger stages as a wireless without having to remove the 1/4" input from it? thanks, great review!

I’m pretty sure you can use both… that’s my understanding. Even if I got that slightly wrong, just leave the cable right next to it and it’s definitely still helpful 👍

I'm kind of confused at the groups part. By "systems" do you mean other wireless systems regardless of the brand etc.? I'm using mine in a place where there's 5 wireless mics and one other wireless guitar. There's wifi in the space, so would I use group 2 do you think?

Really noob question here but I'm deciding whether to use group 1 or group 2. We have two GLDX16+s and two PSM300s. I assume that when Shure says "systems" it means any wireless system right? Or is it just referring to the GLDX16s?

Scott, have you tried to charge the transmitter right from the receiver? Like plugging a USB-C cable from the pedal to the pack? Does this charge the pack? Or do I have to use a wall charger? Would be cool to be able to just leave it on my board charging until I need it. Thanks

so i use a UI12 soundcraft mixer which is a wifi that connects to my ipad and its mounted on my pedal board along with my other effects pedals is that going to interfere with GLXD+ cause i also want mount my shure wireless mic reciever to my pedal board as well

Using 2 wireless devices isn’t something to worry about in almost all situations 👍 just keep the wireless GLXD+ away from your router 👍

I prefer pedal board wireless systems if you are someone who uses a pedal board or modelers.. although I kinda think they should either use a standard input jack so you can use your own cables or come with a straight and an angled version in the box.. for me I use LTD EC so I prefer the low profile of an angled cable instead of a straight quarter inch sticking out of my guitar.. great video

When they referred to systems in their email... do they main 1-2 Shure systems or overall digital wireless systems of any brand? I'm using the xvive IEMs... lead singer uses a 5g bug style system and I'll be using the glxd16+... we also have a router for monitor mixes. I'm guessing group 2 is the best option? Being that there are 4 separate digital devices running?

Hi Scott! I'm also in the search of a reasonably good wireless system, both to connect my guitar to my HX Stomp, and then the HX Stomp to a single set of IEMs. Since the HX Stomp is a modeler, which by default adds around 5-6 ms of latency, I've been wondering how big would be the total latency of that combination. Maybe around 5-6 ms for each device, totalling 15-18ms from my fingers back to my ears. Do you find that total latency is noticeable on your shows? Did you have to adapt your playing to it?

Where did you ever come up with by" default it's a modeler so it's got 5 to 6 milliseconds of latency" I've never heard of anything like that. Especially if you're talking about the HX stomp. Maybe on some old-school plugins. But standalone all-in-one pedals and newer all-in-one modelers I've been using them for years and I've never felt any latency. Sounds like you do more reading about gear than you do playing 🤨

@@maxammo6282 Every modeler adds latency to the signal chain, some of add less, some add more. I agree with you that the modern standalone units add so little latency that it's totally imperceptible. But my question wasn't about that, so you might read it again... I was worried about the whole system latency, which in my case would be the sum of the latency of a wireless connection between my guitar and the HX Stomp, the intrinsic HX Stomp latency, and then the latency of a wireless IEM system. I think it's a pretty fair question, since I don't have much experience with full wireless rigs, and I'm not willing to spend money just to find out that the total latency might be too much for my taste, specially because where I live we don't have the generous return policies that you guys have in the US. So maybe it's you that's trying to read too much on other people comments and playing too little, my friend.

Hi Scott, if we are using some wireless systems (xvive etc.) that use 2.4ghz, would you still recommend keeping the GLXD16+ on dual band mode or would disabling the 2.4ghz band be more beneficial? I would imagine that if you keep it on dual band mode you'd have to remember to turn on the other wireless units first so that the GLXD can then do its scan?

If you are already using too many 2.4ghz systems, it might be best to switch to just 5.8ghz mode. Although if you turn your iems on, and then scan from the GLXD+, it will avoid those channels. On the old system, to do a channel scan you had to turn off the transmitter. Is that different now?

I honestly don’t know. The reason why you would do that is because a wireless doing a scan will see the wireless as “oh this channel is taken, don’t use it.” So you should shut it off when you initially scan so it can find all the available channels. I honestly don’t know if it knows to ignore it with the ID link or not. Best practice is when you do the first scan, have the transmitter off. If you do happen to get interference, then scan with the transmitter on

I've been using the Swiff Audio wireless guitar system for a couple months now and it's never failed me but I really want to upgrade to the Shure. The only thing that is keeping me from it is the price. They both get the job done, but is it a noticable difference at all? Is the Shure really worth spending more money? I understand that it has a tuner and many other features, which is another reason why I want to upgrade but does that truly justify the price? I just don't understand the difference between the Swiff Audio and Shure wireless guitar system when it comes to performance.

About the Detune Feature: I would love to have a tuner like this for my Trumpet. Trumpets are transposed, so when you play a noted C the "sounding" tone is a Bb (hope this makes sense in english). So it would be great to have a trumpet tuner with such a detune feature.

I’ve looked at that one. I do love my AT in ear system. But that one is only on 2.4ghz where as this one is a dual band one and has the cool option of the pedalboard version. While you have been fortunate to not have 2.4ghz cut out on you, that won’t be the case for everyone. I do need to look into that system though. It looks cool! I like that the Shure is dual band though

I have multiple system 10 units. Standard model, pedal version (that doesn't have a tuner) and the pro rack version. They're great. Though one bodypack needs to be reset every single time. That's a bit annoying.

I bought this after watching your video and I think you need to update the part about the wired input connector being able to handle two guitars at a time. I was so bummed after trying it out! You can only use your wireless IF there’s no cable inserted in the input jack! I hate this parent because I’ve wired the entire board with external ports. I have the original GLDX16 Unit and I love it. I have played probably 30 - 40 live shows, probably 200 rehearsals with it and, I have never had one issue. I wonder if the new transmitter would work with the existing receiver if I had to replace it? Also, the antenna on the old transmitter moves a little and feels slightly janky so I bet that is why they improved that design. For the groups, are you saying that group 2 is best for 2 - 5 shure systems or just wireless systems in general. We have 4 wireless instruments and 4 wireless IEMs. wondering if I should change groups. We only have 2 shure wireless pieces and I have never left group 1. Also, never had one issue so I figure don't fix what isn't broken.

@@ScottUhlMusic Hi. I inserted the new battery (that came along with the Shure GLXD16+ box) into the transmitter. Closed the battery compartment cover of the transmitter and put it on charging using the USB-C cable and power adapter that came along with the Shure GLXD16+ box. It’s been 48 hours and the red led light on the transmitter keeps slow flashing. When the charging is complete is the led light supposed to turn green or what is supposed to be the indicator that battery has been fully charged? I hope my question is clear.

Just bought this wireless system GLXD-6X due to my earlier version at times sounding like a wobbly chorus sound...could be because I have started using smart tech also 2.4ghz or whatever it is. So, the new GLXD16+ is way louder and quieter as regards artefacts than my earlier version, and now I can turn my Friedman Runt 20 combo up to LVL two which is great. Why is my new GLXD16+ louder and clearer sounding than my earlier version, pray tell? It has nothing to do with the built-in dbs as they are on the same lvls on both units.

Suppose you want to use your amp's FX loop. You need to run the receiver's output jack to your amp's input. Then get two more cables for the send and return for rest of your pedal board. Does anyone do this? I tried the device yesterday and didn't have enough extra cables on hand. I just did the approach at 1:55. My amp's FX loop was unused.

Strobe vs. Needle...I'm on the fence. Strobe is said to be more "dead-on." I've seen a lot of luthiers swear by Strobe for intonation. My experience has taught me that needle sufficient for performance as long as a) your pitched instrument performers are tuning to the same center frequency (i.e. 440hz), an b) your instruments are set up with proper intonation. This is especially true with high gain guitar. A cent or 2 differential won't be that noticeable in a live setting. In the studio...it would probably be best practice to be as "dead-on" as possible.

@Scott Uhl I've definitely seen where you can seem to be accurate on a needle, and there was a slight flux at that point on a strobe. Again, I think it's more the environment and what is needed for it. If the band sounds in tune, they're going to sound good (in respect to pitch).

Yes, definitely 👍 dual band, far more channels, more range, longer battery life, the tuner, fits on a pedalboard, and it will work with basically all guitars (cheaper stuff doesn’t always work with all guitars… believe me, people comment when it doesn’t haha). Shure products work with everything 👍

You should get used to scanning before a show. You literally push one button on this system. It’s by far the easiest scan I’ve ever seen in a wireless system. If taking 5 seconds to push a button turns you off to it, you aren’t going to like the other options out there 👍
