Ok I finally figured it out. Everything is working as it should. I built a 4x8 Laminar Flow Hood for my lab in working with mushrooms. Besides using this switch I added a 115v receptacle to power other equipment I use in the lab. I'm so glad I held on to that 13 year old ac blower. You never know when you need something.
Just installed a direct drive motor which is replacing an older fan motor and I was looking for a way to power each speed separately. This exactly what I was looking for and easy to build. THANK YOU For posting!!!

Thanks. Recent broke my furnace blower motor and I’m wiring a temp motor until I can get the original fixed. I believe it to be a capacitor. ECM type motor. Anyways. This confirmed what I needed to remember. Thanks.
Would connecting the HIGH SPEED LINE to the first/#1 position help the motor start with less strain on the motor itself? Kind of like when the blades are engaged on a lawn mower, the throttle should be in the highest position.
Would you make a video on how to tell which wire is which when everything becomes disconnected? The videos that might contain that information are recorded in other languages except English. I lost the pictures for my wiring diagram. Now I have 6 wires coming out of the motor, a 2 wire capacitor, a 3-speed controller, and a multimeter. However, I am pretty sure that I am missing just one step on how to correctly put everything back together.... oh, my motor has different colored wires from your and no diagram.
I bought a different brand switch but it is a 4position. I'm wanting to add a receptacle next to the switch. I'm assuming I should connect the black wire from the power cord to the receptacle first and the neutral(white) wire from the power cord to the receptacle. Then jump from the receptacle to the switch to #5 and then connect the corresponding motor wires? I would appreciate help from someone that has experience wiring motors. Thanks in advance. .
I have the almost identical switch except it’s a 5 position and an almost identical motor except it’s a 4 speed furnace blower motor. I’m doing the exact same thing your doing with just one additional speed, could you help me wire this please!!!
I know this video is 3 years old.. But I have a box fan from the 50s it has a 2 speed Westinghouse motor , would the switch you used in the video work on a 2 or 3 speed westinghouse motor?
I have the same type switch as you but it is a two. Now would I hook up my red wire to # two for low speed and the black is high speed to #4. as o #3for the power cord the black to #1 and then run a jumper to #3. Could you let me know if I am right please.

He's jumping 1 to 3 to 5, it can be 1-3, 1-5 or 1-3, 3-5.. It doesn't matter. That just gives the power from the lead coming into 1 to all of the others, in this case to 3 and to 5. It's just that 1-3 1-5 would mean theres 3 wires coming from the #1 so "technically" a bit more heat as well, and a bigger thickness too... so 1-3 3-5 is ideal.

I got an AC blower fan box with variable speed motor. I am connecting it to use as a shop fan. Will this switch work for that? The motor has 4 different speed wires coming out. Can I also use a fan dimmer instead?
This switch will work but it can only wire three speeds. You will need a five position, 8 terminal switch to wire four speeds. The wiring will be the same, but just one extra speed wire. Don't use a dimmer switch. It will burn up the motor. You can control a motor with a variable speed fan controller switch and just wire to the high speed. I would just get the five position switch though since you have different speed wires. It should be a little more efficient that way also.

The video is a bit unclear about jumping portion. Do you cut a 14 g electrical wire and connect the 1 and 5 port together and also connect/jump the 3 prt with on of the port 1 or 3? I could not see that clearly. Please let me know if possible. I got the exact same switch. Thanks Subhendu.
@@subhenduc you end up connecting 1, 3, and 5 all to the input line by one route or another, doesn't matter exactly how, just so each of them is connected either to the input itself or to a port that is connected to the input. If you connect 1 to 5, you could then connect 3 to either one of them. But to minimize resistance in your wiring, you may wish to connect the input to the port that is connected directly to both the others. For example if you connect both 3 and 5 to port 1, you may wish to connect the input to port 1 as well. This way the current to 3 or 5 has to pass through only one other port and not two ports in series.
Can you tell me why an electric motor usually quits working? my favorite 20 inch 3 speed shop fan quit working after 10 years. my brother says its usually the winding's go bad. is it worth repairing? as I can find a similar fan for under $100
I built it for a wine crusher-destemmer but currently don't use it for that since it is so easy to hand crank for the amount of grapes we run through it
