I agree but he's no baby. He's trying to cover his ass. If howard was white and the other coach he hit was black.. The media would have jumped on this to the point he got fired
Dang. Reporters really missed the opportunity to ask Coach Howard a golden question. "Which was more difficult: Containing Johnny Davis, or containing your fist?
As a Michigan fan this was painful to watch. Juwan acted like a child. He didn’t like the timeout but was running a full press for a game that was over. He also refused to shake hands and used profanity towards the other coach. The fact that he let his pride carry over into his press conference and not take ownership is completely unacceptable! The conference needs to send him a strong message because of what happened last year. Like it or not, he represents young people and he needs to set a professional standard. I’m all for being passionate, but do it with class. And for anyone defending Howard, you are clueless. The brawl took off when he punched that coach. That was straight up assault and he could be facing a lawsuit if someone would have got injured.
Howard is from Chicago bro so am I no longer living there but that's how we talk bro our pervious mayor used profanity all the time no big fucking deal bro
I'm starting to think Juwan is the kind of guy that would hit a woman and then blame it on her. Dude can't bring himself to look anyone in the eyes. Guilty as hell.
Huge Michigan fan here but this is embarrassing. Isn't press short for pressure? I felt threatened? Why did you hit another coach? The media let him off easy here. Cmon Juan...wtf are you doing??
@@ronnierichardson2565 Yet that isn't an excuse for hitting another coach and starting a brawl in front of the young men that you mentor (supposedly)...
@@austin_xliv8766 but it's not his place to be concerned that's not in any job position accept a social worker not even a judge because our jobs are black and white... everybody knows some people don't like being touched Howard could be a victim of Abuse for we know. Its just not a safe practice I learned this as a teenager trying to hold my friend back swung on me like he didn't know me because at that moment, he didn't and I understood
100% Agree. He had a chance to take ownership in his press conference and made excuses. He assaulted another coach on tv and set off the brawl that could have seriously hurt someone. Unacceptable.
As an Ohio State fan, I don't think there is any question that Juwan Howard is responsible for this brawl. Wisconsin didn't owe him an apology or an explanation. Michigan AD has a history of making bad decisions so nothing would surprise me here. If it were a Wisconsin coach, the university would have already done the right thing. Zero tolerance for violence here.
There is a thing called sportsmanship. Howard was wrong for slapping the coach, but what happened before that. I guess no one is looking at the grab, which started the whole thing, didn't it?
I guess the biggest thing that bothers me about this there was no apology for Mr Howard's actions. If the roles were reversed and the Wisconsin coach was 7 ft tall and the Michigan coach was 6 ft tall and the Wisconsin coach struck an assistant coach of Michigan there would be an immediate termination especially if the Wisconsin coach was white and the Michigan coach was black there shouldn't be even the discussion about this this should be an immediate termination and a written apology to everybody
Looks like J A Juan’s coaching run at Michigan is going end similar to his playing career did, in embarrassing fashion and over a time out call. At least Gaurd knew he had a time out to use.
Georgia Bulldog here... Wisconsin is a class act. Michigan is an embarrassment, and the Big Ten should be ashamed of itself for the pathetic repercussions.
This has nothing to do with race . Juwan Howard has always seem to be easy going. Certainly in the NBA. But this was out of character . A suspension is what should happen. Nothing more than a couple games though .
Why does Matt Norlander think Wisconsin is set up the best for the one seed???? This should be locker room fodder to motivate Purdue to go to Madison with guns blazing!
I absolutely hate to bring this up but without a doubt, if it were Wisconsin's head coach punching Howard or a black staff member, he would be fired immediately if not sooner. He didn't even apologize or apologize that he put the players in a dangerous situation. Wow.. no responsibility.
On the flip side of that argument, Bobby Knight threw chairs, was accused of abusing players, and went after refs numerous times and he's a hall of famer, I understand it's a different time now but you always have 2 ways of looking at a situation. I personally think Howard should be fired for his conduct. Edit: I meant to say I personally don't think he should be fired, but suspended for sure.
@@kitkat7871 I actually thought about Bobby Knight as i was writing my comment. I understand you know the times were different and even kids were being spanked by teachers and principals back then still. To a lesser degree than the 60s etc but it was still happening. In today's world which im having trouble to adjust to even at only 35 with the cancel culture, white shame and far left agendas lol. I totally understand what you mean and i agree with you but like you siad, times have changed and they sure have. I wouldn't suggest fire him, im only staying if Howard were white and the coach was black that got hit that the media would have jumped on this to the point where they would have fired him.
@@AJ11OH-IO I actually just edited my original comment. I meant to say he should be suspended, not fired. It wasn't ok when Bobby Knight did it, it isn't ok now, but we can't say that sports has evolved and then say, but they got away with it back then. Now if let's say, Coach K were to smack Florida States coach in the face and then have 0 consequences for that action but J. Howard is suspended for the same reason THAT would be a double standard and I'd be the first person to say so. Even though I'm a MASSIVE Duke basketball fan.
@@kitkat7871 I agree and after reviewing the video again and again, it was more of a face shove than a slap or punch. I think he will be suspended. It's the people and society that have evolved in this case more than anything else. With social media and far left media like CNN etc is why i said if he were white, he would be fired just because of the backlash and when a story becomes bigger than the team, the coach is gone. Urban meyer for example. I do agree with you.
Gard shouldn’t have grab Howard arm to talk to him but if someone said “I’ll remember that” to me I would’ve reacted like Gard. He wasn’t the one being threatening, Howard took it too far by hitting the assistant coach. If your salty about the L then keep walking and don’t say anything to instigate the grab. Comes down to losing your cool and not being able to brush it off as just a game.
Dude…..it’s a normal thing. The coach was reaching out to get a pause and attention. He put his hand on his elbow to pull the handshake and ear closer. Gard thinks he’s hard and so do you. It’s a normal movement. Any other excuse is low class hood shit. I know, cause that grab used to put me on edge. Now gard is suspended and 40k poorer. No one was being threatened, wtf?
@@clowe73 first off I’m not a dude. Second idk what the hell you are trying to say. Check your attitude before trying to come at me. It’s a game and MI lost. The aftermath of it was petty and uncalled for. Coach touch each other arm all the time it’s not that big of a deal. Howard clearly apologized for a reason, he knew he got mad and made this whole thing a story cause he couldn’t handle the loss.
At 3:24, Greg was not being honest. You put your hands on J. Howard first, then out of defense J Howard place his hands on you to make space between ya, then J Howard pointed down on you. Be honest Greg!
Footage does not lie, I would say the Assitant coach getting smacked was extremely out of line. But we don’t know what was said but it was a heated argument obviously.
But he grabbed him after "I'll remember that", and then Howard started pointing his finger. The video cleary shows that. I thought Howard had said something to set him off. No excuse of Howard, but if this guy just keeps walking nothing happens.
Juwan Howard lost his cool, but I see his point. We can passionately disagree but don't put your hands on me, it is called "Sonning" a person, the coach was aware his team had won the game but he wanted to humiliate Michigan.
The worst Michigans coach of all time tries to justify his impossible behavior instead of apologizing for it. What is there to discuss for so long? You have to fire him for his human and sporting incompetence!!!
Sad but true. Instead of judging the content of a coaches character, they first look at how would such a decision of firing someone be accepted and not cause accusations of racial discrimination.
"Great breakdown guys and thanks for BOTH sides. When you look at BOTH videos - the timeout interaction, where Howard is angry and Gard comes AT HIM hard - and the handshake line where Howard tries to walk by and Gard PHYSICALLY stops him and then Gard steps in front of him (not allowing him to pass) while trying to aggressively make his point. I see not one, but TWO occasions where Gard goes at Howard much more aggressively than Howard does at Gard. Fight or Flight is a real thing when people are either scared, or angry past reasoning... and Gard DENIED Howard flight, which he tried to take. All that said, Howard can't throw that punch and needs to be reprimanded. But Gard needs to take responsibility for his actions as LITERALLY cornered an angry Howard and didn't allow him to leave the situation without an altercation. (If Howard didn't throw the punch, we could easily be looking at Gard's actions as battery - and perhaps we still should.)"
if Juwan Howard was 'angry past reasoning', then why on earth did he even go to shake hands and run his mouth. Doesn't matter if they fire him now or later, he's not a leader and Michigan will continue to lose until they get a good leader. Too bad because they are loaded with talent.
The ncaa is at fault with ranking ,points etc the desire to win is bigger then ever for there stupid tournament games stop watching this garbage and they will clean it up
Did the coach grab Howard or not. Howard was walking past Gard, and Gard grabbed him. Gard's version of the line is a little off. Howard was wrong also, but Gard put his hands on him first. Plain to see.
An embarrassing situation for both coaches, teams, and schools. More to the story on both sides, but this is unprofessional. Howard will very likely be fired in the next 48 hours. This is a sad day for college basketball.
This Coach is full of crap... He needs to start playing Johnny and Jordan Davis together. Stop holding Jordan Davis back for next year we want to see him play now!!!
@@2taggs2 the coach at Michigan is black and according to his presser he stated that he would accept repercussions for his behavior so technically you're wrong. Be factual with your assessment of a group of people or you'll be left looking as bad as you try to paint others.
And full court man to man press against scrubs is okay. Which is a better way to lose with dignity? Let the clock run out or steal 4 points to lose only by a single digit number.
@@cedrharper you're right the game was over, so, why a full court man to man press down by 15 with 20 seconds? Second, explain coach decorum and using the excuse that the TO disrespected his players by extending the game. Third, guess again. As a coach you shouldn't put yourself in a position to defend your actions. Don't believe for a second that this was only because of the TO. This built up throughout the second half because he was outcoached and his team outplayed.
This is bullshit what class? This is bullshit I’ve seen Bobby knight do a lot more and nobody said anything about it. This coach should be punished for touching another man
