Woodchucks/Groundhogs (Marmota monax) are vegetarians and their diet consists of grasses, clover, Plantago, garden vegetables, leaves, twigs, apples, berries, and dandelion. Woodchucks dig large burrows which can be up to five feet deep and 30 feet long. A burrow usually has a nest chamber lined with grasses, a main entrance, and several escape openings. They are among the few animals that are true hibernators, fattening up in the warm seasons and snoozing for most of three months during the chill times.
