I say this with all the super love I can send , we love Wisdom not because he’s is the poster boy for beauty but because he’s the dude that goes to school with us, works beside us and he is the regular awesome friend and that dude that also happens to be the G.O.A.T of style and fashion ….. the combination is mind blowing and it’s awesome….!!!

I've been struggling with my own ability to express fashion as a man, and Wisdom's existence is just so euphoric to me. It seems that I have more to work through in terms of my self-conception than he does, but this was still a really important conversation to hear.

I just recently started listening to your podcast. Even though I am a woman, I am deeply curious about the experiences of men, their stories, their perspectives, and their lives. I know a decent amount about how patriarchy affects women, but listening to your podcast has taught me so much about how it affects men, and how toxic masculinity is really ingrained into our society and has infiltrated many aspects of our lives without us being fully aware of it. I want to thank you for all the hard work you do and the amazing guests that you bring to the show. I also believe Ocean Vuong would be a great guest to have on the show as he is always so articulate about our relationship with masculinity, particularly in America. Again, thank you so much for being so vulnerable and open and willing to share your knowledge and for bringing on such amazing guests.

Wow!! This is one of my favorites!!! First bringing back Alok was on point!! Not only is beautiful when we recognize when someone else has had an impact on us, but even better is when we bring them into the room appropriately! Bravo!! Second, Justin admitting that the hair down and Jamies whitened teeth and light ring were expressions of feeling insecure about the upcoming guest was wonderful!! I agree with what was said at the end, Wisdom has no idea about the impact of what he is doing, and that's a beautiful thing! The difference in age was clear in some of the way it feels you were expecting him to answer, but his inner and natural understanding of the subjects was refreshing. I love that Jamey does not allow any guest to go without acknowledging and/or making them think about the role race plays in their life, regardless if the guest is ready to talk about internalized racism or not! And lastly, seeing men complement each other, share a piece of clothing, whether you are from the fashion industry or not, is incredibly necessary!! Thank you for doing it on camera!

I am a huge fan and admirer of former Miss Universe 1994 and Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen. She has gone against societal norms in India and adopted two girls as a single woman. She commands respect. Her new series, "Aarya 2" was nominated for the International Emmy Awards. She has stood up against patriarchy in current India.

Resonated with this episode as fashion is one of my favorite ways to express myself. I can choose to be whoever I want to be. Shopping in the women's section never made me felt any less masculine, I actually felt more empowered as it assured I was comfortable in my own skin. And to be honest, women's clothing section most of the time has better options than men's. I recently bought a sweater and shoes from the women's department. I'm with you Wisdom!

Let's not forget that black men wore high heels, sequins, thongs, and glittery platform shoes back in the 70s. [see: Prince, George Clinton, Rick James, Boots Riley, Sly Stone, etc]. And nobody blinked an eye except for the old people at the time who were used to men dressing a certain way at THAT time. NONE of this new, it's the times repeating the same script with a different generation who are putting their stamp on the same old.

Hopefully we can break that cycle and just get to a place where people can do what they want without being criticized or worse.

I never questioned Wisdom’s masculinity…… I was way to fixed in his style and content that it never came into play ….. he’s like the boy next door that has a killer wardrobe and style ….!! And he’s 20 so he should be doing a little of everything to figure it out if need be ….!!!

Jamey why didn't we see you in the Red Jacket like Justin..I admire the New Millenniums for having more guts about their identity and Wisdom is paving the way for more young people to stand up for being who they are..No matter what the color of their skin or the fashion choice...I like the example Liz made about being called by another name we do not accept that we immediately rectify the person. So why not about our fashion style or "Hairstyle ".💚💛❤

Toxic femininity is absolutely real, we should not push it aside and it's not about patriarchy; there's many reasons and facets. Wisdom doesn't challenge masculinity or hyper masculinity. He does dress masculine as well but he shows that you can do that and also express yourself through non traditionally masculine fashion fits. He does both. Its not really disruption or challenging masculinity, it's actually more inclusivity - you can dress traditionally and non traditionally masculine and still be a man. He's an inspiration!

Great episode. Jamey, I get that long hair is not your thing on Justin but on some level, it seems like you are telling Justin he shouldn't like it either. and he shouldn't wear it down. Totally my take and I own it. I love Justin's long hair. 😃😃😃😃

We agree - we love the hair! To be clear, Jamey and Justin have a really close relationship and it's just a running joke between them. Jamey would never truly shame anyone or make them feel bad about how they choose to present themselves.

That's the one thing I like about this new generation they're laying all that silliness to rest. And allowing themselves to be comfortable with their emotions and who they are as an individual. Even as a father I had to step back and reevaluate how I speak to my son especially when it comes to terms of him expressing his emotions. I was raised with the "Boys Don't cry mentality". With my son now it's more of "It's okay to express how you feel however we're not going to cry about a couple trips of ice cream running down your hand because you'll be able to get ice cream next time" .

Thank you for this episode and tackling gendernorms in fashion. That was beautiful! What I, as a woman, would like to hear more about is the intersection of masculinity and sexuality, the influence of heteronormativity and compulsory sexuality and how it contributes to this weird image of masculinity. As you had already many members of marginalized communities as guests on your podcast, i would love to see David Jay - founder of AVEN (asexuality visibility and education network) because i really think he, as an asexual person, has tons of stories/knowledge to contribute to the conversation around "man enough". Pressure around sexuality is a huge thing, especially for men (i imagine), as it is so intertwined with what is portrayed as masculine. I would love to see him on the show! What do you think?

Masculinity has always been separated from fashion it’s usually been linked with femininity to the point that fashion has for a long time been considered as an interest for gay men , in many occasions men who have recieved attention or an interest for debate are masculine or straight men in fashion on the other hand when more feminine males are in the fashion scene it’s considered as basic cause fashion in men is linked with being gay or feminine so it’s general to the public which is totally wrong and as a feminine fashion creative I’ve had my work or talent sidelined cause people generally believe that my talent comes from the fact that I’m feminine so people would be like “obviously his into fashion “, as a change people have to understand that fashion is a force on its own

Tbh I know Justin is a solid guy but I hated most of his questions,i just found most of them to be intrusive and bit too personal, as well as most of his answers somewhat self centered.Almost all of his responses tied back to his experiences with fashion/womens clothing etc. meanwhile nowone else made it about themselves. Also his attempts to relate to Wisdm sometimes ironically odd-balled him even more..idk maybe this is just an emotional response to defend & protects whenever I see another black man interested in fashion.🙃
