After serving a false rap to establish his “wiseguy” credentials, undercover FBI agent Vinnie Terranova infiltrates the criminal underground of Atlantic City, where he could wind up dead with one slip of his cover.
From day one I fell in love with this show. Ray Sharky aka Sonny Steelgrave was my favorite actor; along with big brother Dave Steelgrave was the best. Vinny was third along with that killer enforcer Tony. They would never be another tv gangster shows like this. Once Sonny was killed off the show it went south and even if the show ran for a few years; it was never the same.
One of the best tv series. It's a waste Ken Wahl just disappeared from hollywood. Jonathan Banks came back, he's great in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
Although I think there are a lot of Plot holes in the Pilot, it was still a great Show and this was a great episode.. I think with it use of Plot Arcs- this is something that other Series started using as well.
I didn't get chance to watch Wiseguy when it was on T.V . I finally got watch now dang l can't believe missed a great show . I'm glad l got to see it now .
Agreed. I know it's "only" a tv show. But it's all so human it touches me. Knew of the show when it first aired, but only just two months ago finally dived in (the whole series) and glad I did! McPike's deadpan style is hilarious.
From one day i love this show because of Ken.... i watched this movie with mute beuz everybody was sleeping.... But i watched beuz of Ken.... I love his voice and personality....
@@MrMenefrego1 my mom used to say if people complained about getting older “Consider the alternative.” Which is being dead 😁. My BFF is 89 and in better shape than I am. Aging well seems to be a combination of good genes, good attitude...and dumb luck.
I’m 43 now, only saw a couple of fragments back in the day, now I can watch it again with an adult brain. Well, kinda. Experiencing the 80’s as a kid and being a teen on the 90’s, it absolutely was better than today. I’d almost think that the 60’s 70’s 80’s and 90’s were the golden decades for freedom.
I 've never heard of Wiseguy before. What a good show.I have finnished your Hunter uploads which were brilliant so i thought i'd just checkout what other tv shows you had.
Fun fact: Jonathan Banks and Jim Byrnes were reunited in the _Highlander: The Series_ episode, "Under Color of Authority" (Season 2, episode 12) as Mako and Joe Dawson, respectively. Original air date: February 7, 1994.
Although on RU-vid it says this is the ‘complete series’, it is not. They could not get the rights for much of the music used in the Dead Dog arc in season 2, and so these are not included.
This was one of the best show on tv back in the days. Steelgrave arc, Mel profitt (Kevin spacey) arc was fantastic. I had biggest crush on Joan severance. ❤
One of the best series , if not the best , of the '80's. In the same class as all the renowed series of the early 2000 's . Never appreciated enough when it originally came out.
Watching this show again after almost 40 years, I can understand why I fell in love with Vinny as a young girl. He sure was the most handsome man ever., a man of strength and principles. Geez, I’m still in love with him😍

I loved this show as a kid in the 80s. The way Vinnie wins favor with Sonny is pure hokum, but the acting, the dialogue and the story in general were pretty good for network tv in the 80s.
honestly, whenever I watch Wiseguy, i keep coming back to the Steelgrave Arc. They should have expanded a bit on this arc more, made Sonny like a good consultant with Vince with tough cases, maybe they rushed it a bit. Something fun with the second half of the season too. with the three sides, or four sides if you want to make Roger a fourth party or Vince/family, their own party split from the OCB side. When I come back to the first season, Steelgrave's Arc and Mel Profitt's Arc, honestly seem like different shows with the same character, it's interesting. Vince gets close to Steelgrave in such a way that makes it feel forced with Mel Profitt, but somehow Roger Lorocco makes it work i guess. Sometimes it molds back into that Stephen J Cannell/Frank Lupo formula i get from their others hows like Hunter and Commish, but they did quite well with this one season.
Isn't it wonderful how your family always knows what's best for you? LOL. I like the series including his brother as a priest.....it really ups the ante. That said, it seems to me that 'hope' is just another word for 'fear' in terms of faith.
The way he gets to infiltrate is way too stupid. Then he hits on the Capo's daughter; he just bump into her at the elevator on his first day at work. Everything looks cool, but way too videogame like scripted
It was on Sky One c1990, including season 4 with Steven Bauer replacing Ken Wahl and relocated to Miami. It was then acquired by the Family Channel which subsequently closed down leaving the rights in limbo. It's never been shown on terrestrial TV in the UK, unlike the infantile A-Team which is never seems to be off the screen.
I liked this show a lot. But I think Vinnie getting into The Steelgrave operation was unbelievable. I don''t think if I picked a fight on John Gotti say, and we got into a Fist Fight, he would end up letting me join his organization.
When they meet Sykes at the motel, after the shooting has begun there is a shot where Vinnie avoids two bullets which impact the door behind him. The shot changes to show the shooter and then returns to the shot of Vinnie in front of the door however the bullet holes in the door from the previous shot are missing.
that's done so that if the show is sold into syndication, the episodes can be run in any order and there's no loss of story-continuity. The writing strategy is more aligned with serial format than procedural prime time, interesting choice.
Ken Wahl was amazing in this. A favorite show in Denmark in the 90's. But like a lot of the US shows always in dead late. They used the to run from 23.00 to 2 at night. Same with talk shows. Always after midnight. So annoying. But at least wr never dubbed anything. I would not have liked anything if we did that. They did that with kid movies, and to hear David Bowie dubbed by an old boring 75 year old was just not for me.
One of the best tv series. It's a waste Ken Wahl just disappeared from hollywood. Jonathan Banks came back, he's great in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
This entire Pilot Episode had "Miami Vice" DNA written all over it, amazing how that show made an influence on how TV shows are made, before Vice, TV shows were kinda bland in terms of aesthetic, music, dialogue, cinematography, storytelling, etc. When Miami Vice came along, it changed the game, now shows are more action packed, dynamic, aesthetically pleasing, filled with music, and movie-like. Not only that, this show is in my opinion, a prequel to The Sopranos.
Undercover operative for the FBI organised crime bureau he did time in order to create a cover to be recruited by gangsters. The best arc of the series.
