Floor stepped in October 1. in 2012 as a temporary front and singer. This Wacken concert is from 3. of August 2013 - but it was the first major concert where Floor was presented to the European fans. But Floor were known from After Forever and ReVamp by many in the audience - and therefore many were very excited to see her come-back (she left the stages in 2011 due to a burn-out and were deeply missed)
Wish I Had An Angel background stuff from their book: According to Tuomas, "Wish I Had an Angel" - with its almost dance-like beat - was born out of frustration while sitting in the Karhu Bar. "I was there with my girlfriend of the time, and all these guys kept hitting on her. Even people I knew - guys who were certainly aware that we were dating - tried to chat her up. There was a full-scale hookup going on on the dance floor. The line 'Wish I had an Angel' just slammed into my head. I though it was so corny that it might even work. In a way, the dance beat conveys the setting of the song and is an essential part of what the song's about. Lyrically, it's the most down-to-earth, redneck, truck-stop song I've ever written!"
Quite creative on his side to make up such story but he did that to conceal the fact that it was about Tarja and the song is aimed at Marcelo. Angel was Tarja's nickname and Marcelo is the "wannabe friend". Why would he call total strangers wannabe friends? Especially when he said that "guyS tried to chat her up" and then he says "13th disciple who betrayed me". He's clearly talking about someone in particular he's angry with.
I love this performance, Floor sang really loud. The first show with Floor was in Seattle, there is an official video with the song Planet Hell from that first show.
Floor stepped in 10 months prior to this concert, but since she stepped in, they hadn't played in Germany. So for most fans she was still new. When Anette couldn't continue touring with Nightwish, they called Floor if she could come from her hometown in the Netherlands to Seattle (WA) and study the 15 songs on the playlist in just 2 days (!). She said yes, packed her bags, downloaded the lyrics and took the plane to Seattle. According to Tuomas, the concert was way better than they expected, according to Floor, she survived with the help of the audiance. The rest is history.
Watch The Islander live in Tampere and High Hopes live to see Marco singing. I Want My Tears Back Buenos Aires 2019, How's The Heart? (Live Acoustic) and Last Ride of the Day
This song was originally released during Tarja's time. I listen to it with Floor singing and think "I like this best." Then I listen to the original with Tarja and think "I like this best."!!! 😆
Hello from Finland. 😊 You are so beatyful in that red dress of yours and whit red lips.😊 ❤ I'm late but better late than not ever...gondratulations for yours 30 birghday.🌹❣️ women in her best yers. And thank you for yours reaction. Always nice to hear Nightwish.🥰 Have you listen Sahara and Siren already? If not i whis you to check them out too.😍
Yesterwynde will be released as a full album on 20 of Sep. They already released one song and adding documentary to this continuously. But iam waiting for the full album to listen first.
For the "48 hours" documentary you could break it up into a series of videos, 20-30 minutes each...I've seen a number of reactors do it that way and it works pretty well.
Curiously, even though this is my favourite concert I know of, I wouldn't use my one "time travel to a concert" ticket on it - because the video production is so good. Instead I'd pick something that isn't recorded so well. Don't know what, but probably from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful tour. Or maybe the cruise.
NOT about Tarja...Tuomas said he wrote it about a time when he was in a bar with his GF and guys kept hitting on her right in front of him. Also, this is NOT her first time performing with NW...she had been on tour with them for around 10 months...this was her first time performing at Wacken and her first festival with NW.
I believe this was her first show in Europe, and as of this show, was not an official member. But she was doing shows for 10 months with the band. She was a little nervous as she never preformed in front of that many people before.
This concert has some slowed down versions floating around due to some error in the dvd rip somewhere a long time ago. You can't tell if you hear the song for the first time but it can get frustrating if you stumble upon those regularly. It's like a 4% difference in speed IIRC. If it's not on Gabriel's list, I recommend the official channels (Nightwish or Nuclear Blast) or the user Nightwish Arena. Not many views but they're doing a good job uploading and remastering everything Nightwish related,
If you look, on RU-vid you can find early shows from Oct 2012 where this is performed. Floor ramped up very quickly after being cold and recovering from burnout.
Yeah, the Yesterwynde clips you mentioned at the end are tiny "documentary-pieces" about the making of the upcoming album. They release a new clip every Monday.
yes yesterwynde is mini documents about they new album :) hey you can make that setlist document like 4 parts. thanx to great reaction and have wonderful weekend.
Regarding the thumbnail, no, no it's not about Tarja. Tarja was this song's original singer. This was the second song Nightwish (with Anette) played when I saw them in 2012.
There is the full concert on youtube. Some have a speed issue, but I linked one with the correct speed. Shortcuts to the songs are in the description. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cAwtzi7Q3Bk.htmlsi=NmHdB1QEYPDz7KyP
Yep, great. I just left a long winded explanation trying to explain this for her. Most views doesn't always equal to being the best version! These new correct versions are much better. I do wish they all had lyrics/subtitles though.
Not about Tarja. Tarja originally recorded this with Nightwish before the split. Wacken wasn't Floor's first performance with Nightwish - that happened mid-tour in USA (see the "48 Hours To Learn the Setlist" video). It was quite an early performance for her though, just a few months into her being with the band and just after being confirmed as a permanent member, along with Troy. Up to then she was a temporary replacement and Troy was a session player who had accompanied them on that same tour. Yesterwind is the new album, due out this year. There are documentaries online about it.
"They've never done Biblical songs before" Their very first single was The Carpenter, a song explicitly about Jesus' sacrifice! While it's hard to argue many of their songs are explicitly Biblical it's clear that Tuomas took a lot of inspiration for his earlier work especially from Biblical themes and imagery (Gethsemane, Bless the Child, Beauty of the Beast, etc).
Considering Tarja was the first to perform it I don't think it's about her. The original clip is nostalgia. I love the cat additions to your videos lol I have 4 myself
It's about her in not even a subtle way (your Virgin Mary undone, Tuomas is clearly aiming at Marcelo and his Argentinian/catholic background). And that moaning part with Tarja laughing... if Marcelo caught the hint he must have been angry as can be.
This song was written partially because Tuomas was on a date and despite knowing that the lady was with him a lot of other guys (not Nightwish) were hitting on her. Tarja sang the original on the album ("Once") and in the official video - it's not about her and Marcello.
It's about her and Marcelo but Tuomas had to come up with some believable tale. Tuomas doesn't write about mundane stuff like "I was in a bar and this guy over there was hitting on my 2 month-girifriend." The album has a song called Ghost Love Score about an impossible love that will never happen and you think right there, there was a song about some chick he briefly dated and that ridiculous story about other men chatting her up?
@@userunknozn This powerful song was inspired by a frustrating experience Nightwish’s founder, Tuomas Holopainen, had while at a bar with his girlfriend. He witnessed other men hitting on her, even though they knew she was in a relationship. It was a painful and infuriating situation for Tuomas, and it sparked a wave of emotions that he poured into this song. In his own words, Tuomas explains, “The line ‘wish I had an angel’ just slammed into my head. I thought it was so corny that it might even work. In a way, the dance beat conveys the setting of the song and is an essential part of what that song’s about.”
Big hit single for Nightwish. Tarja was the original singer on this song. Tuomas has commented on the meaning of this song. Yes, every Monday there is a new behind the scenes style short video released regarding the upcoming record release. Also, the 2nd single from the new record is out on August 8th. "The Day of". Great as usual Lanae!
Enjoyed your reaction. Wacken was not her first show with Nightwish. In fact it was her 46th show with the band. Song is not about Tarja but was written by Tuomas after hanging out in a bar in Helsinki and watching dudes come up and hit on his then girlfriend right in front of him, including some that knew they were together. This is one of the few song's where I like Tarja's performance better. Floor does a great job with the song but it just fits better with Taraja's dark witchy voice. Checkout the official music video or the live version from the End of an Era Concert. The live version has a cool moment where Tuomas is pouring wine into Emppu's mouth.
Tuomas writes Once with songs like Ghost Love Score about this unrequited love he craved for since the very beginning of Nightwish... and then proceeds to write a song about a trivial event... in a bar? Are we talking about Tuomas Holopainen? I have to admit he's got creative with how he presents his songs. He learnt since the "I don't remember" when the interviewer asked him why he had changed the lyrics in Astral Romance 2001.
It's a song about Tarja. Angel was her nickname back in the day, the Virgin Mary Undone is a dig at Marcelo who's Argentinian (and Argentinians are catholic), I wish I had YOUR angel (he wants Marcelo's angel), old loves they die hard (he's talking about someone he's been in love with for a very long time, probably his first love), last dance first kiss is a reference to the song Beauty and the Beast Tuomas wrote about him being rejected by the beauty because he's a beast. But yeah he had to come up with some story because otherwise he would sound like a total creep writing a song about wanting to bang someone else's wife...
Whatever this song may or may not have been originally conceived as is mostly irrelevant to the present-day speculations about its now-meaning gleaned from putting two and two together and deducing four. Of course it is true that he conceived and penned these lyrics before "the event" happened, but don't take my word for it... try it yourself: Listen to the entire End of an Era concert in Helsinki, 2005 (and I hope you record for us to enjoy with you, but that's beside the point here) in the proper setlist order and pay close attention to the lyrics of each song in the setlist as well as the order they were scheduled. Re-interpret those lyrics in light of what the band knew was going to happen at the end of the show but Tarja did not know. Also note those lyrics reinterpreted along with the occasional "evil-eye" glances the cameras catch Tuomas casting Tarja's way during certain songs.... leading up to this one as the very last song she will ever sing with the band... "this night will hurt you like never before"..... "I'm in love with my lust burning angel wings to dust." Not only these two examples but all of the elements are there and they map perfectly to the particulars of "the event." I don't care what they wrote in a book or said in a public interview. When one is a public figure one must be very careful about what one says in public. It becomes crystal clear that he re-imagined the original meanings of each of these songs and arranged them carefully in the setlist to tell the story of what was about to happen and why. The audience would not be able to recognize and decipher the story at that point in time because they had no clue. But there WAS one person who should have began to recognize the uncanny hints being thrown by the lyrical arrangements. It seems to correlate that that is what the "evil-eye" glances were about at key times: to watch body language to see if she was catching on or not. As we know now, it was the "not."
I didn't much pay attention to the order of the songs in End of an Era. But I think Wish I Had an Angel was chosen for sinister purposes. A sort of "I wanted your wife so bad and now I'm going to destroy everything". I agree with you that he reimagined the original meaning of the song because he simply cannot tell what it is about (or more precisely who). People actually believe this cliché story about guys in a bar hitting on his so-called girlfriend. Yet, it's such a trivial theme for Tuomas Holopainen, who, on the same album, composed Ghost Love Score, a deeply moving song about ending an unrequited love. But no, people genuinely think he wrote a song about a nightclub. He might as well have written about the peanuts served with the drinks.
@@userunknozn Yes, I concur with you that that is a valid conclusion about the song's reimagining. And right at the very end. But if you DO pay attention to the whole setlist in order, you will begin to pick up on the pattern. "Over the Hills and Far Away?" "Creek Mary's Blood?" (...soon I will be here no more... "Ever Dream?" Phantom of the Opera?" (the recurring beauty and the beast theme--she's the beauty; he sees himself as the beast) Even right down to the Pink Floyd cover/tribute. Out of all the hundreds of possible great songs that influenced him that he COULD have picked... What about Metallica... What about all the other great Pink Floyd songs... Why "High Hopes?" Roger Waters' lyrics fit the scenario perfectly. Almost every word of it!
@@christomashofski9160 If you pay close attention to the songs they covered during that era, you'll notice a recurring theme of "impossible love." - "Over the Hills and Far Away" tells the story of a man dreaming of reuniting with his best friend's wife... - "Phantom of the Opera" is about a beast-like figure in love with a soprano who loves another man... - "Where Were You Last Night" is about the longing and heartbreak of a lover kept in the dark... it was also included in the Wish I Had an Angel single. But they also covered a very intriguing song: "Wild Child" by WASP in 2002/2003. If you listen to the lyrics, "Wish I Had an Angel" will sound like an innocent lullaby in comparison. I checked the setlist on the End of an Era DVD and I don't see the same order. Concert started with Dark Chest of Wonders followed by Planet Hell.
It's about Tuomas's girlfriend. Men were hitting on her and trying to get her to leave with them with him standing right there. The Angel is his girlfriend and it's supposed to be sung from the point of view of the creeps hitting on her. " I wish I had your Angel tonight."
That's what Tuomas want us to think because otherwise he would look too much of a creep. But definitely he wouldn't be calling a stranger hitting on his girlfriend "wannabe friend or 13th discipline" since they are strangers.
Hi Lanae, please watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-117UXfUV1Hs.html to learn how Floor joined Nightwish. She came to the band as an emergency replacement on a worldwide tour to replace Annette. Waken 2013 was her official joining the band and not an extra. You can see her develop in confidence and power in the documentary, and whilst long and with some subtitles, it will change your outlook a little bit. I love watching Nightwish, but this documentary is special and a re-watch it often to remind me of the genesis of the band.
The official version tells the story of the songs lyrics where Tarja plays the Femme Fatale and Marko the Judas friend . In the video you can hear the faint love making and laughter. Tuomas was inspired to write the song because of all the guys including his friends trying to seduce his Girlfriend in a bar.
Floor joined to Nightwish at the middle of US-tour and this was after US-tour....But never mind, anyway she was "In" very fast with songs of Nightwish. She is pro and so talented.
Hi Lanae. Some of the information about Floor and this concert has been twisted, misleading, or misunderstood. Floor took the stage with Nightwish for the first time on October 1st 2012 in Seattle, Washington. This concert was 10 months and many shows later. The tour started on 11 January 2012 with Anette. Anette was fired on September 29th and Floor took over 48 hours later. However, Floor herself did say that Wacken was the "biggest" show she had done at the time. But it was certainly not her first with Nightwish. 😊❤️🤘🤘
I certainly want you to continue reacting to my favorite band of all time Nightwish with Floor on vocals. ❤ BUT, if you are looking for a change up. I strongly recommend this great Japanese rock/emo/punk band. They are called ONE OK ROCK ( which the story behind their name is funny) Their most recent stuff is more rock. The link below is for the show closer at a 2-3 hour show back home in Japan. They nearly had to cancel the show just hours earlier, as the singer was very sick. Yet he comes out and sounds better than the album. The song is apparently about how how after Japan lowered the age of adulthood to 18, the youth who were now technically adults, felt belittled and disrespected by the older adults. And that their voices weren’t being heard. The band apparently wrote this to tell the youth to keep their heads up. This performance is amazing! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uyaKoj7wABY.htmlsi=tPc1kz6UnLISX9sX
The play it safe, the best videos for the Wacken 2013 NW concert are those with the "Correct speed" tag in the titles. View numbers aren't always the best indicator. Floor's first performance with the NW band was in October 2012 (watch the "48 hours" documentary). Wacken was their biggest concert, after some 10 months. "I don't want it to end"... Well, don't stop the videos before the end, then. Simple.
nice, thank you.. Don't skip song you know.. just relisten ! (we will do too) "Learn the Setlist ..." it is worth the time (but it is in finnish with engl. subtitle and YES we love it; It has a little timejump in it )
She is a confident singer, you should see her during the Human Nature tour you can see the growth into the best frontwoman of any band on earth!! Their is a book that I got from Amazon ``Nightwish every album, every song by Simon McMurdo that is totally awesome. Also please do a video with your cat`s they are so entertaining!!
Pro tip : most views doesn't always equal to best version. I've noticed it many times with Nightwish songs. Some of the videos with most views just means that it is one of the older videos, usually with a poorer video quality. Some of the newly uploaded videos with fewer views are the ones with BETTER quality. This is one of the reasons why Gabriel gives reactors a list. General-ly speaking he has curated the best versions. Especially with the Wacken concert, there was a mix-up/error in speed between the DVD and Bluray version, that's why you'll see some of the newly uploaded videos with fewer views that have in the title 'correct speed in HD', or something similar. Unfortunately the Bluray speed is a little slower than it is supposed to be. I definitely notice it when I play my bluray copy. Even some of the originally uploaded Tampere concert videos were low in video quality - yet they have the most views. They have since been uploaded by other people with much better quality, yet they have fewer views. It can be frustrating as a Nightwish fan trying to enjoy reaction videos and then you see someone make a poor choice in video to react to, I almost don't want to watch it. BTW I'm not saying you made a bad choice. I'm just informing you of the situation, don't take everything on face value. This is probably one of the reasons why General Gabriel tries to help out with video selection. It's about giving the reactor the best experience of the best band ever to exist :)
Both singers are great. My personal favorite is Tarja but Floor has kept Nightwish afloat and fit the band in a way that forced an evolution, for better or worse depending on what camp your in, which the fans can appreciate. That said, Tarja has had a really successful solo career which should tell you all you need to know. Over the years she has been pursued by many artists, big and small for collaborations. Her fairly recent reconciliation with Marko has just blown the doors wide open for possibilities as well. Exciting times for fans.
This is NOT about Tarja. She sang this song WAY back. This song was originally written for a TV show which never aired in Finland. Nothing more, nothing less. The ONLY song written with Tarja in mind was "Bye, Bye, Beautiful". Tarja was a band member, not a love interest - ever. She was fired because Tarja and her husband stopped coming to rehearsals and cancelled concerts to go have fun on their own. Tarja hadn't even met her future husband when this song came out originally.
Amongst many other inaccuracies, Tarja married Marcelo at the end of 2002. The single for WIHaA came out in September 2004. I'm fairly sure she had met her husband already when this single came out ^^''
