This is the first song I ever learned to play, it was 13 years ago with your tutorial. Nice to see a revisted version. 13 years... That's a long time, I now know a total of 5 songs, what can I say, maybe I'm a slow learner. But I truly thank you, Justin.
If you can play this song with all the chords you've learned, You can play a Thousand songs. You can definitely go play Oasis wondeewall & other Oasis songs with these chords. Change strumming pattern and timing. Too many people learn 1 or 2 songs and think they only know those songs. You actually know the chords to a thousand songs.
I am 61 and 3 months ago i have started learn play guitar by you Justin Sandercoe and I never have didn't thing that I am play little bit "Wish you were here" so early! Thanks many times. I wish you Happy New Year.
This is why Justin's tutorial are my favourite. There's too many guitar tutorials on RU-vid which simply ignore rhythm and beginners usually have trouble understanding rhythm by ear. I've been playing for a year and I still struggle with difficult rhythm patterns and Wish You Were Here is definitely a bit confusing
I've been playing guitar for less than a month. I recently paid for the Justin Guitar app and recently came across this video and I'm proud to say... this is now, officially, the first song that I've learned to play on my guitar! Thank you so much for your app, your website, this RU-vid channel and everything else you do for us beginners! Because of you, I'm now well on my way to considering myself a guitar player! THANK YOU!!!
Justin, you blow me away, a beginner friend asked me how I learned to switch chords so well. Justin, two chord changes was my answer, he had never watched you or thought about a concept you taught me. Thanks Dude.
Greatest teacher of all time!! ❤ Justin saved me from a very dark period in my life, and I'm extremely grateful i can channel it all into playing music.
I'm learning to play the guitar since 2008 and I've learned so much stuff from you. Want to say "Thank you so much" for your patience, your funny way to teach chords and strummings and your commitment here on RU-vid. Stay healthy and happy, Greetz from Germany! :-)
Thanks for the positive words and viewing on youtube. Of course, there's a full website too with all of Justin's lessons. Cheers :) | close 2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide [ www.justinguitar.com/ ] & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum [ justinguitarcommunity.com/index.php ]
I'm so pleased that Justin raised the point about listening. I read and write music as a clarinetist but I'm little more than a "happy strummer" on guitar. Love Justin's instruction, I never intend to inflict my guitar playing on anyone except my dog (but she likes Nickleback so what does she know😜), however I always come away from one of Justin's videos with a smile on my face and an absence of sheet music. Thanks dude.
@@jinfin221 Ye. We pretty much all are. I think this is somewhere in the beginner course of Justin. But anyway you can play this in your very first week. Just get the chords down theyre fairly easy.
Justin, I’ve decided to learn how to play the guitar. And of all of the online guitar teachers. Your teaching methods are the easiest to understand, follow & learn. Thank you, from Edward (Upstate New York)
Hi Justin I know you probably wont read this but just wanted to let you know I am trying to re learn guitar after 22 years not playing, I am really enjoying your course. Its making my sobriety alot easier with something to do at night.. Many thanks. G
Great lesson as always. My favorite part is how Justin explain everything, the different paths and wich you should take based on your level. It's great that he shows the rhythm slowly, but also explains how works and why it works like that, so it's not like "this is like this because i said it is". And you can always come back while in intermediate to learn and practice the more advanced stuff. :)
I too learned this as my first and favorite acoustic song from your tutorials several years ago. I figure you must have to remake them because I wore the old videos out, over and over and over. lol!
Justin you are the master at teaching,im 47 got a guitar a yr ago, learned a lot from you, thank you, wish you were here,a song i know from listening,so i taught id just try play it by my ear,and it was ,well crap,it was jumbled up,but your lesson showed me,i was doing the intro without hammer on,and i seen a video showing the hammer on,and more confusing stuff, but this lesson is absolutly brilliant,it showed me were i made mistakes, but also how to do it right, thanks justin,👌👍👍🎶🎵
Iv watched this lesson again,iv learned how to play it from you justin,so thank you,iv been playing it a few weeks now,but i want to see your lesson again, because i firstly knew the song well and your lesson then i was away playing it,but im a beginner 47 only got a gutar a yr ago,,so thankfully waching you this time on wish you were here has made me realise how far ive come, since i first started learning, and you still teach me things that i taugh i was doing right,i played by ear and your videos, great combo
Hi Justin. I know you probably won't read this but l agree 100% with your mention of listening. I was trained and became head chorister in Durham Cathedral so had to learn theory etc. I learnt, self taught, the bass then the acoustic guitars. At 71yrs old, l run a little weekly guitar club in the local pub (2 mins away from home) and learn 1 or 2 new covers each week, all done by ear, ie listening. I find too many guitarists are desperate to learn theory but if you can tap your foot and count to 4, learn the chords basically, then marry the two together!! Merry Christmas.
Thanks for the lesson. Coming from module 7 this is quite a step up. It would be VERY helpful if you can show a finger placement in the right top of the screen. On my phone, wearing reading glasses it's very hard to distinguish notes and chords just by looking at your hand.
Glad you enjoyed it. There are now 700+ song lessons plus a song request board here: www.justinguitar.com/songs Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com
Hey Justin, I've finally got this! It's been 20 days since I started learning this. I finally get how to do it but still working up my pinky callous, coz sometimes the thin E string buzzes because it's not quite there yet! But this is so cool! Thank you
Hiya Justin, amazing tutorials & so well explained in every detail. You have given me a renewed interest in my guitar & music in general. Thanks again from Shane 🎶
As a LEFTY I Greatly Respect your trying to play LEFT-HANDED. I got my father's Right-hand TELESTAR Guitar when I was in the 7th Grade and tried for a year to play it that way, but it was a real struggle. Inspired by my I foot Black & White JIMI HENDRIX POSTER, I flipped the Strings around. The Action was like nearly a 1/4 inch off the Neck, little by little I started learning about thosethings: Action-Height; HARMONICS and A SET-UP. I always appreciate yo😢 Lessons
Hi Justing. A friendly suggestion is to add a small delay to the start of your video to let us get set up to play along. In this song it's not possible for me to press play and be ready in time to play along. Loving the courses so much though, super super well done!
Enjoyed the lesson as much as listening to this all-time-great song. This will be my practice sessions for a while after a number of years of merely watching the guitar gather dust. I'm now motivated again. Thanks Justin
One of the first channels, If not the first I ever subscribed to years ago, more than a full decade ago. I'm still shit at playing guitar, but that's on me, had a couple of kids and don't have a lot of time to practice. Still love these videos so much. Thanks for everything Justin, cheers from Germany.
I've been playing since I was eighteen, which was {mumble, mumble} years ago {:)} and I have to commend you on how well you split this down into simple steps for people to start to glue together with practice. I could have done with this forty years ago ... damn it, gave it away :D. Consider yourself well and truly subscribed to! :chuckles:
No problem. Over 600 here: www.justinguitar.com/songs With chord charts & TAB available too. Cheers 😊 | close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide [ www.justinguitar.com/ ] & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum
Thank you - beautiful song. And was able to play with practice and your lesson here !!! - Only feedback would be to help us with strumming pattern. I think experts like you dont spend enough time on this and seems really hard for beginners like me (or just me - lol) thank you
Sometimes I like to venture into nature with my positive thoughts and some sugar snap peas. I wander aimlessly as I munch on the juicy peas and let my thoughts roam freely. It's amazing.
The B note on A string is a hammer-on right after picking the open A string in the intro instead of being picked. It's how it's done in the original and it sounds so much smoother and better even though it's a small change.
Well this certainly has been a challenge but one well worth the effort as there is so much to be learnt from it. I do have some musical grades on flute/sax but two hands doing different things at over 75++ has been in a different league but provided great practice at picking individual notes and ringing the changes in strumming patterns to mention just two benefits. I suffer a low threashold of boredom, that is why I have started the guitar 7 times at least, but using the app and playing songs where the tempo can be adjusted and this exercise have kept me fully engaged I am not saying how long I have been working on Wish You Were Here, it would be too embarassing but it is definitely worth the effort. Thanks Justin! Is there a finger picking course if and when I finish the beginners course?

Great lesson, thanks ! :) Isn't it exactly the same video than the one in your beginner course ? I think I remember when I learned the riff from the course. Anyway, still great to see it again as I'm still working on it :)
I'm loving this lesson, so I subscribed for the Tabs, but the tab doesn't seem to be the same arrangement . It could just be that I'm not very good at reading tabs, but even the 1st bar notes and strums (the D-U-UD) seem different than the video. So are the Tabs not necessarily the same as the lesson?
Hey Justin, thanks for the great video. Just wanted to say, that the tabs on your website under thuis video do not match what you are playing and its pretty confusing.
Nice job & good beginners lesson Justin. When I play this song I always finger pick & strum it as I feel that a pick leaves out too many of the little subtleties...your thoughts on this?
Justin might say, "If it sounds good it is good". | close 2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide [ www.justinguitar.com/ ] & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum [ justinguitarcommunity.com/index.php ]
Hahaa, kinda laughed when you said you hope I've enjoyed this lesson.. It was absolute torture, will keep at it hope i master it eventually. Very good teaching method though, since i've gotten the theoretical bit in my head.. the practice part will take some time but will keep at it. Thanks mate! ❤from Kenya
Whenever I find myself short of a thicker pick, I simply take my thinner pick and turn it around with the pointy end facing me and the wide end of the pick is slightly tougher to bend and flex then the pointy end.
On last Em7, when you pluck the D and A strings twice each, are you supposed to still be holding the 2nd fret on each respective string or play them open? Would appreciate an answer.
Thanks Laura. 600+ songs here www.justinguitar.com/songs and a free to use fully structured guitar course too! Cheers 😊 | close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum [ www.justinguitar.com/ ]
I have often wondered and would like your opinion on the opening sequence of this song. Would it be more appropriate to think of it as an exercise of the G major scale or an E pentatonic?
Good question Christopher. Justin introduces the open position E minor pentatonic scale in his beginner course. This riff uses that scale pattern. The riff is played over two chords, E minor and G major. So, yes, you can easily think it must be the E minor pentatonic scale being played. However, it is not all that simple. Strictly speaking, the 'home' chord, the 'resolution' is the chord G and the riff ends on the note G so it would be more proper to call it a 'G something' scale. And it just so happens that the pattern you know as E minor pentatonic is also the pattern for G major pentatonic. There is theory behind that of course which you could learn using Justin's course: www.justinguitar.com/classes/practical-fast-fun-music-theory Cheers 😊 | close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum
@@JustinGuitarSongs Thank you for the response. I owe most of what I do know of playing guitar to Justin. I found his tutorials back in 2016. HIs original tutorial to this song was the first that I learned. I have learned just enough music theory to be dangerous. With Wish You Were Here I can also hear call out and response similar to blues arrangements. I never thought of the E minor chord being used. I know the 4 chords used are G major , G/C major, F#/D major, and A minor. I just want to thank Justin for everything he has done with his lessons over the years.
