The Sennheiser G-Series wireless is probably the most popular wireless system in the world. Still, the bodypack receivers leave much to be desired and can create sleepless nights for location sound pros. This video details why renting Wisycom MCR54 is a great way to level up your Sennheiser kit without breaking the bank by leveraging your existing investment in the otherwise solid Sennheiser transmitters.

In an age of hyper-excited hosts, this truly comes as a breath of fresh air. Very clear, no BS tone adds so much. What a video should be! Keep up the good work. Now, if only you did videos other than Wisycom….😜

Such a great, understandable and practical explanation of a technical issue that many newbies like me can benefit from. This stuff used to seem like like magic to me, but now I understand what's going on. These videos are a great resource, thanks man!

I own two MCR54 quads and use a combination of Wisycom MTP40/41s, Sennheiser EW500s and Lectrosonics SMA/SMQV and they all work great. Whilst the Wisys reign supreme as far as sound quality and range are concerned, the Sennheisers (specifically the 500 series) are an extremely useable contender (especially at the price point per transmitter) and I might argue that their companding is better than the Lectros using an MCR54 but the Lectros have a party trick that neither the Wisys or Sennheisers can do which is put them to sleep with dweedletone. Even using the new Wisycom MTP60/61s with Bluetooth capability and app control you can’t do this. Wisycom really need to change this.

Have you tried the opposite of this? Wisycom to G series? I use IFBT4 to transmit to my G4IEMs. I wonder if there would be improvement with a wisy TX even with less power output.

Yes we have tested this with an MTP40s using the ENR compander and tuning a G4 receiver to the same frequency. You have to turn the G4 receiver's pilot tone off but it works. The nice feature about doing that is you're able to remote the Wisy TX antenna using a lemo to SMA/BNC cable or adapter like this one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UNKUvrK_FlE.htmlsi=Ss3fdNthF9GpKnyc

I just received my MCR54 yesterday and it essentially cleaned up my sound bag with the reduction of the number of EW receivers inside. I have the latest firmware installed on the MCR54, but is there a way to display both custom RX name and frequency on the same "page" of the screen without having to press the down arrow button to cycle the pages or is this a limitation of using the EVO compander mode?
@Wisycom-Rentals-Canada
@Wisycom-Rentals-Canada 7 месяцев назад
The 4-up display won't show both the frequency and the receiver name regardless of the compander selection. As far as I can tell, you need to navigate to individual channel screens to see both. But that would be really a nice display option to have? I'd love to see both on the 4-up page!

@@Wisycom-Rentals-Canada In one of Norm's earlier videos on another channel (Unmarketing Group), where you spoke about the Wisycom MCR54 being an alternative receiver for the Sennheiser EW system the screen showed things differently. I assume this was on an older firmware? Right now, I feel that the 4-up page is wasting valuable space that could be used to show some additional info.

@@ALwinDigitalYou've got a keen eye my friend. Yes, the display was different in a previous version of the firmware but I don't believe it displayed the receiver Name and Channel in the 4-up view. But I really like your idea and I think having a few options that include this would be a nice feature. Thanks for the great comment.

I think that if someone has 4K, they certainly won't be using the Sennheiser EW series but rather Sennheiser 5000/6000/9000. I also believe that for any professional, it's more logical and cost-effective to purchase second hand SK 5212-II/SK 50-A and maybe Wisycom MCR54 or Sennheiser EK 3241/EK 6042/EM 3732-II/EM 1046 receiver. These are strange times, and SK 50 or SK 5212 or SK 5212-II can be found at a lower price than the EW SK 500 G4. Also, a new SK 50 costs over $3500, which today would be around $6000. Moreover, the sound quality with the 5000 series is incomparably better than the EW analog series, even the EW digital one. Some colleagues who use the 5000 series say it sounds better than Wisycom MTP 40/41. I personally agree with them the SK 5212-II is one of the most neutral analog transmitters I've ever heard. Personally, I have a couple of SK 50-A and SKM 5000-A that I use occasionally, they are excellent.

Thank you for your comment. We don't have a lot of experience with the HiDyn Plus compander but it's likey an improvement over the EVO as you suggested. The MCR54 had HiDyn compatible although we haven't been able to do a comparable test. A couple of potentially important features of the Wisycom transmitters is the selectable hardware limiter, wide tuning range and wide/narrow band modes and unique intermod-free linear mode. Wide frequency range tuning applies to the receiver as well in addition to be 4-channels / true diversity.

Not to be a stickler, however Senheiser do not make a "G series", they make the Evolution series in different frequenzy bands, one of those bands called the G-band (566-608MHz) ;) How compatable is it with the Evolution Gen 3 vs the gen 4 ? That said, the MCR54 looks like something we might take a closer look at :)
@Wisycom-Rentals-Canada
@Wisycom-Rentals-Canada 6 месяцев назад
You're quite right that it is the Evolution series. The G (G2/G3/G4) is for (G)eneration. I may add Evolution to the tile. Yes, we have tested this as far back as G2's.

Thanks for your comment. If you're getting good results with your current system then yes, an additional $4K may feel like an unnecessary addition investment.
