The best and flexible tip for understanding tarot is viewing every card from a neutral and accept the cards’ depiction as it is; When putting a stereotypical “Good” or “Bad” on a card, it cripples the card’s potential from being intimately understood. I’ll give an example: The Devil. Now stereotypically, The Devil is always seen as a baneful card, but viewing The Devil in a neutral and accepting perspective, the positive qualities can be more noticed. Some dignified qualities of The Devil are: Awareness of one’s limitations, Being a “Devil’s Advocate” by ruining someone’s fun but with the intent of ensuring their well-being is first priority, a deep relationship provides phenomenal support in the growth of the self, enjoy the worldly sensations BUT know when enough is enough, and understanding that one’s foundation is imperative and must be established. As an example of a known “positive” card, I’ll use The Sun. The Sun known as of course the most happy of all the cards, can also have harmful qualities such as: Being in a state where one is completely exposed and can be critically harmed by slander/physical attacks etc., being blinded by blissfulness to an extent that carelessness becomes a huge challenge needing fixing, and even one taking for granted nature and all She has provided. 🖤🖤

Great video for beginners. :) It's funny we have (almost) the same favorites when it comes to books. The only difference is 78 Degrees of Wisdom. I could never get into it! I've had it probably since 2005, and sometimes I reference it for a certain card I am digging deep into, but I could never read it from cover to cover because to me her writing is a bit dry to be honest. An iconic book in the community, but the other ones you mention will always be my favorites and books that I actually really enjoy reading. Psychic Tarot is so underrated in my opinion! It's one of few that really focuses on the intuitive aspect of card reading.

I started really learning the tarot about a year ago. I learned with an RWS type deck but it wasn't a traditional RWS. I absolutely agree with you that its better to learn from the original cards first. I just purchased an original RWS and I'm starting from square one again so that I don't miss anything. I wish I had started with the original.

Some great tips & resources! Maybe you can talk about the other types of tarot besides RWS - (Thoth, Golden Dawn, Marseilles, Lenormand etc) have you used them & what do you think? I wonder what you think of Mary El at this point in your career? Is it overrated? Do you use it for a specific purpose?

great video! i wish I had found it 2 years ago when I (finally) committed to really learning the cards. Ethony also recommends the"step in the card" exercise and it's been very helpful (and very interesting) for me. 🙏

This is such great advice. I started with tarot in the early aughts when Celtic Cross was the only spread and Rachel Pollack and Mary K. Greer books were ubiquitous and was instantly overwhelmed. There are so many more resources out there now for beginners who can then move to the next step and appreciate the Pollack and Greer teachings so much more. Definitely find teachers who resonate with you. There's a certain popular teacher whom many people love but she doesn't click with me at all, so definitely look around and don't assume that pricier courses will be better. I've learned a ton from completely free videos and podcasts.

Good point. I actually learned the most from the Aeclectic Tarot Forum back in 2005. So many experienced and wise people shared their knowledge there. :)

I just found your channel and LOVE your vibe. Would you please do a video on how you might read the same card from different Tarot decks? Do you read them all the same or can you get a completely different message from the same card of different decks? Thank you so much for your work and helpful guidance.

When you read for yourself, do you place any kind of restrictions on intuitive meanings, given that our inner desires for an outcome can influence the meanings of the cards? I worry about being objective when I read for myself and that I could make it say what I want it to in my mind without realizing it.

Do you ever do readings for yourself or clients about physical health. Since we use tarot and oracle to guide oneself to our point of power which is within, how do you approach questions like this from clients?

I'm curious to know how you work tarot into your ritual. Formal ritual is something I've been trying to get into, but card reading is a huge part of my path. I'd be curious to know how you do formal ritual around it?
