A terrorist is dead, an angry vampire left the place for good, and Regis didn't end up a fugitive. Not bad, imo. Honestly, not ruining Regis' life interests me a lot more than all of Anarietta's bullshit.

I always felt like this was the true "good" ending. Especially since Regis is immortal, him being a fugitive to his clan (if not all of vampire-kind) is a fate worse than death.

Lah Boh if I remember correctly, the contract actually doesn’t stipulate that Geralt should kill Dettlaff; only that he “free” Beauclair from the Beast. I know that’s very Gaunter O’Dimm-esque and underhanded, but that’s just me. I do welcome arguments against letting Syanna die and Dettlaff go, as I am still somewhat wrestling with my decision of letting Syanna die and sparing Dettlaff

Anna Henrietta forgot her - Dettlaf was supposed to break her neck and rip her heart out of her chest. Hmmm. Now I think its fairly clear who actually was the real beast of Beauclair. So I think this is not a case. Regis was honest, "epitome of humanity" as Geralt said, and he really valued every human life (he was even a medic - a surgeon, I think?). @@FM-kl1wv He ordered to summon him, nothing more. But he mentioned that Regis will be anathema if he kills Dettlaff. This fact is only mentioned if you visit the elder before meeting Dettlaff. Or after killing Dettlaff when the bruxae attacked Regis and called him a traitor. He mentioned to Geralt, that he now must hide from all the vampires, higher and lesser. And you know how hard it is to hide identify higher vampires. I guess the answer to Geralt "If I stay out of them, I'll be fine." is a lie to Geralt to ease his mind. It would be just so Regis like. But I have no proof of it. Sure is, that if you choose to let Dettlaff kill it would be likely that Geralt never sees Regis again, because it destroyed their friendship. But this is speculation as well.

In my opinion that's exactly why "saving private Dettlaff" is a fool's errand. Geralt is like "dude I have NOTHING to do with this, how the hell was I supposed to know what the ribbon does? I brought the girl to you, which was a lot of work actually." and Dettlaff is like "I WANT KILL GIRL, NOW I MAD NOW I KILL YOU, later on maybe I kill the rest of Beauclair and some puppies because I give zero fucks about any of you". I hope the Dettlaff fanclub also refrained from killing ANY griffin, wyvern, slyzard, wolf or other beast. They are all "good", they all just do their thing and sometimes they grab something to eat and sometimes that happens to be a human. Then a witcher comes and owns them for doing that. Dettlaff is exactly the same, he is chill but if his tamper flares he kills half of Beauclair. If you let him live, perhaps he kills half of Novigrad because his article wasn't published in the local newspaper or a succubus cheated on him and hid in the city. You know, "good guy" stuff.

Its as If one country enslaved an other country's prince, so ofc the kind with his country will declare war to save the prince. The same happened here, expect instead of a prince, a criminal who deserved to be punished was hid and saved. Detlaff emotional or not, was resonable and had all the rights to declare war. For Anna was a bitch who felt guilty for not helping Syanna in their childhood, was blinded, because of this and even gets killed by Syanna in one of the endings. The innocents's blood who died by Detlaff's vampire army are actually drying on Anna's hands. well the main game had the middle ending with Ciri turning you down and getting forced to be empress. I kinda loved that you had to take a trip through lands....even worlds, slaughter armies and suffer through battles, but it all just comes down to your choices as a father, as she either decides to abandon you or spend her life together with you. :) btw in case you didn't know: if you play HoS before the main game and sacrifice olgierd, you can not only choose between items and gold, but also for a tip to find ciri, then O'Dim tells you a few riddles to get the key decisions right to lead you to the good ending!

The difference between the best and the worst ending in B&W can come down to just one wrong dialogue option. It's not good design by any means. www.vg247.com/2016/06/02/the-witcher-3-blood-and-wine-endings-how-to-get-the-best/ I didn't encourage her to forgive her sister and went straight from the best to the worst ending. @aja749
@aja749 7 лет назад
***** I am saying this expansion doesn't clearly have a best or worst ending it depends on the player to decide. For eg. someone would say Syanna didn't deserve to die because it was Detlaff who killed the kights and he should be killed but others would say Detlaff was innocent because he tried to save her lover and it was Syanna who deserved to die. I didn't want to kill Detlaff but I didn't have any choice because I got the ribbon and he got pissed off. I saved Syanna and Anna and was satisfied with the ending. Overall I had the best ending in main game where Ciri became a Witcher and I killed O'Dimm in HoS.
@zura8879
@zura8879 7 лет назад
Arguably the ending with all of them dying fits with the overall Witcher universe to begin with anyway - not everything ends like in a fairy tail. I personally like that ending the most, as I think it's the only one one (besides the one with Detlaff killing Syanna) where Syanna actually gets punished. Nonetheless B&W endings were great, because none of them can neccessarily be considered bad endings, each ending can be good depending on who the player sides with.

What I always wondered was why didn’t Syanna just tell Detlaff about the terrible things the knights did to her? If Detlaff would slay a beast to exact revenge for a boy who did something as menial as give him an apple, then wouldn’t he do that and more for his lover? If all she wanted was revenge, why craft an complex and malicious plan to deceive the one of the few who actually cared for her? This is what irked me about her victim complex. A big sob story about how all these people in her life who mistreated her, only to turn around and do the same to the person (or creature?) that didn’t. If it was me, and I had an obscenely powerful vampiric paramour, I would have been much smarter about it. I give Syanna 3/10 for cunning.

This is the ending I think the game deserves. Dettlaff proved himself to actually be a reasonable person. To convince Syanna to not kill her sister when you save her is actually excessively hard. She's insanely dead set on killing Anna and does it if you muck up ONE thing out of a series of choices. Besides, Regis doesn't deserve the fate of being an anathema because he is forced to kill Dettlaff. This choice gives Regis, Dettlaff, Anna and Geralt good endings and surely Anna'd get over the loss of her sister that hated her with a passion. Regis is a good man that deserves peace and quiet. I am also certain that Dettlaff would end up being a force for good aswell, alongside Regis. Two "humanist" Higher Vampires is worth far more to the world than Syanna ever would be.

Regis even agrees it has to be done i hate what happens to him having to leave like that. but honestly dettlaff is an unpredictable wild card that at any moment could mutilate hundreds. it isnt worth it and regis knowing geralt even stood and fought with him when he could of stayed neutral.

Okay one, Bullshit. She did use him, She deceived him by making him think the only person he had ever held so dear, was in fatal danger(Which is even more screwed up when it's her, herself), and then Forces him to kill people she wants dead. Yeah, No, She deserved that stab through the chest. We can't think like humans do when it comes to Detlaff, he's a vampire, Not human. And Regis is an exception among them. He gave the Duchy time, He gave them three days(And if I remember, gave them a week overall) to give him the bitch. The Duchess refused because apparently the psycho sister who wants to murder her is more important than her people. Wars have been waged for far less. And that's what it ended up being in the end.
@nothde9865
@nothde9865 6 лет назад
Detlaff was forced to it because of bad writing, why the flying fuck didn't he just look for Syanna himself? Surely, a higher vampire with that level of infiltration skills could have done so. That scene where he confronted Syanna made no sense, he could have just asked her to explain it herself right there instead of demanding the 3 days shit, and if he went to collect his thoughts why the fuck did he went and raze the city anyways? Why didn't he just look for her immediately? If what he had wanted was her going there on her own will, why the fuck did he threaten her? Why wasn't there three days as he had promised? If fury has truly consumed him, he should just look for her himself to kill her, the very reason he was angry because he made a human friend he was forced to kill, so why would he kill more humans because of this one bitch? In fact, the biggest plot hole, is why an all-powerful higher vampire capable of going invisible not look for her himself, or better, send the vampires to look for her instead of waiting patiently while they razed the city.

Every one saying that Syanna's actions were justified because of her being ill treated, abused and abandoned, needs to remember 2 instances in the game that show a glimpse of Syanna's real evil character. Firstly the way she treats the kids in the fairy tale land- remember how she threatens the boy who was in the hag's oven? She basically tells him that if he does not tell her where the beans are, she will "play with him like she did when she was young"- and the boy is too terrified to refuse. The implication is that even as a child she was malicious and probably abused the other children. The second example is that she caused that noble young man to kill his own brother- all because she played a prank and wanted to have fun at their expense. To me Syanna deserved to be killed- she was an evil person way before she was abused and cast out. She just uses her past story to excuse her present actions, but I feel that she has no remorse whatsoever about the things she has done. The way the developers showed these aspects of her real character is very subtle but very informative if you pay attention. All in all fantastic DLC!!!!
@twilightzoneseinfeld
@twilightzoneseinfeld 8 лет назад
Those kids were not real, they were merely projections/constructs. Anyone who argues that she is some flat bitch that deserves to die clearly lacks the understanding of how The Witcher universe works; most everyone involved in this storyline barring Regis and Geralt deserve some form of punishment.
@maniatissa
@maniatissa 8 лет назад
Those kids may not have been real, but the young noble man who killed his brother because of her twisted prank, certainly was.Furthermore, her actions in the present are "real" as well. Having played all 3 Witcher games and having also read some-not all- of the Witcher books I think I have a basic understanding of how morally ambiguous everyone- including Geralt- is.And I still stand by what I said-that some characters just deserve to die. Like Syanna for example.
@twilightzoneseinfeld
@twilightzoneseinfeld 8 лет назад
+eleni fokea You clearly haven't read all of the books then. Otherwise, you would know that while Syanna isn't justified in what she does, stating that she deserves to die is arguably a bit much, with that logic, Anna Henrietta deserves to die as well. You would also know that the point of the Witcher series is that to some degree most everyone deserves some form of retribution, even the characters you root for.
@twilightzoneseinfeld
@twilightzoneseinfeld 8 лет назад
+eleni fokea Calling Syanna evil as compared to Leo Bonhart or King Radovid or Emhyr is ludicrous. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve some form of punishment. But keep in mind that even in the happiest ending, she is punished.
@maniatissa
@maniatissa 8 лет назад
You should read my comment again. I acknowledge and love the moral ambiguity of all the characters in the Witcher universe. To be frank this is what primarily makes this universe so compelling. Sure many more people deserve to get punished/killed but this video is about Syanna's fate not Bonhart's.

That was basically my main complaint about the game story wise (there are also some glaring gameplay issues but Witcher is clearly focussed on a great story and beautiful atmosphere). The Wild Hunt was hyped up to be one of the biggest threats in existance and then they did this whole introduction of their homeworld and their background and it was like mediclorians in Star Wars. And then it came down to just a sword fight with a bit of teleportation. Nevertheless, I think that there's nothing wrong with introducing more powerful entities in the expansions. @omegagilgamesh
@omegagilgamesh 8 лет назад
Which "bro" are you talking about favouring over the hoes? Detlaff? Sure, he's not treacherous or nepotistic like Syanna or Annrietta, respectively, but in terms of murderousness, there's no comparison. Syanna planned on five people being killed for revenge, but Detlaff killed hundreds, if not thousands of innocents as no more than an ultimatum. Besides, if a woman he loved betraying him like this is enough to send him into such a murderous fit, then I'd say it was only a matter of time before he did something equally horrific, as the world of the Witcher loves to point out: life will not treat you fairly. Out of all the outcomes, I say Detlaff dying with Annrietta living even if Syanna has to live as well is the safest, most practical, and most "least of several evils" ending.
@zablujnc
@zablujnc 8 лет назад
The "bro" in question is Regis, not Dettlaff. I'm not having him be hunted by his own kind for all eternity. Not over that... that... I don't even know what to call Syanna. She is simply below contempt. Yes, in an ideal scenario, she would get a chance at atonement, but when I have to chose between her and Regis... well, sucks to be her. The fact that Annarietta has a blindspot for her sister is unfortunate, but there's no way I'd put Regis in harm's way, just to accomodate either of the two. Dettlaff is a twat, yes, and he deserves to be put down, but not for the price of endangering a loyal friend.
@zablujnc
@zablujnc 8 лет назад
So the right thing to do is to force Regis to make the choice between saving Geralt and saving himself? Yeah, Regis does pull through if you force the issue by fighting Dettlaff, but I wouldn't call forcing that choice upon him "the right thing to do". If Anna wants to avenge her city, it's her own damned choice. She has a standing army at her beck and call, after all. Geralt's mission was to stop Dettlaff - which he accomplished regardless of whether the later was killed or not. Syanna is a serial killer that happens to be the local ruler's sibling. If there was less pomp and circumstance, or let's face it, if she didn't have a pretty face, the choice of sacrificing the manipulative murderer to stop the slaughter of innocents would be clear as day. And another thing - how about everyone who spared Syanna and killed Dettlaff in order to get the cheerful ending - is that not selfish? Syanna is arguably one of the most evil characters in the universe - she doesn't have to kill - she isn't escaping a world wide ice age like the Wild Hunt, she isn't hounded by nobles to expand and give out land as payment for supporting the throne and preventing a revolution like Emhyr - she could go anywhere, do anything, but she chose to murder people because they were mean to her. But yeah, she's preety and the ruler likes her, so ending it with hugs and titles must be the "right thing to do". Fuck Syanna and fuck Annarietta with her stupid gaudy vinyard.

Snappy Zura I know right. The shiny facade of Tussaint works like a propaganda machine, steering the player into siding with whomever rules it. @Zoey One declared war, the other one practiced crimes. In war, your number of kills dont rly matter. Its not the same as murdering people in peace time. This means that Its like, If Canada would purposefully hid a mass murder from USA and Canada wouldnt give him out. Thats a casus belli there, USA is rightful to declare war to take back the prisoner for punishment. Detlaff was resonable. The innocent who died, died, because of Anna, Anna is responsible for Touissant and her choices lead to a war breaking out with the vampires. Also Detlaff's mass murder wasnt, because His intentions were evil and He just wanted to kill people, on the other hand Syanna's intentions were evil and She was happyly murdering people without remorse. While actions do matter, so do intentions, one who is evil by standard and has evil intentions will be more incined towards future evil acts.

The Unseen Elder (immediately asked whether Dettlaf will get killed) and Regis thought of him as trouble--Regis even said he crossed the line. Thus the second shitty "happy" ending is the one that makes sense the most. Either way, Dettlaff crossed the line and Anna made things worse with her arrogance; things could have gone differently had Syanna showed up early on. Speaking of Anna, she is probably the character I hate the most right now. She is such an arrogant, self-righteous ungrateful bitch. No fucking Witcher would dare chase after a powerful higher vampire, yet she rants about him doing NOTHING even though he identified the beast and found her shitty sister (Dettlaff almost killed him when he was tracking him). Then she has the nerve to imprison him because he saved their shit-town and her life--she even refuses to believe the evidence of her assassination attempt. I would have liked to see her go after the vampires herself and see how far the false sense of security/power/invincibility stemming from her knights (who couldn't kill a lone lower vampire) will take her against an army of vampires.
@Gogol01
@Gogol01 8 лет назад
I agree. But still I think this is the most altruistic ending regarding Regis and the far more just then killing Dettlaff and letting Syanna live ... And perhaps Dettlaff would learn to stay away from humans since he cant cope with assholes.
@CybernatonEvolution
@CybernatonEvolution 8 лет назад
I thought the same thing, however, the more I compare Dettlaff with Syanna, the more he comes out as the asshole here. Both of them did horrible things, but Syanna has better reasons, and ultimately, she listened and changed. Dettlaff on the other hand has nothing to lose as a higher vampire; he did go through some shock/trauma but it is nothing compared to being prosecuted and disowned when you are a 12 year old royalty. She wanted the throne back and revenge; Dettlaff turned into a hormonal teenager just because Syanna left him and later on used him (he refused to listen to Geralt and Regis too; the guy is unstable). Furthermore, Dettlaff's reaction sealed the deal for me. He just outright attacks Regis and Geralt, and tries to kill them; his reaction after Geralt lets him go is worse. Regis understands him more since he shares a blood connection--he would never finish him off on his own if Dettlaff was at a point to reason with. I understand your point of view and I still have sympathy for Dettlaff, but that sympathy is very little now the more I think of his actions and motives (butchering everyone indiscriminately because Syanna dumped him)? And Syanna did feel something for him first before she dumped him; she is selfish but she had an excuse to avoid a long-term relationship when she is plotting and trying to get her rights.
@Gogol01
@Gogol01 8 лет назад
very true you are right. Dettlaff had 0 controll over his emotions and indeed deserves to be punished for his rash and bloody deeds. Well :P perhaps the most fair ending is letting him kill Syanna and then end him as well but the consequences sadly are bad both for Geralt and Regis both of who did nothing wrong. :/
@zura8879
@zura8879 7 лет назад
Considering Syanna was the first ever human who showed "love" for him and the first one he likely ever trusted, it's not just a simple matter of "Syanna dumped him" but the only human he cared, loved, trusted and held most dear showing up to be a betraying manipulating bitch that used him against other people he also liked (like that one guy during the Bootleg part). Yeah Syanna had better reasons, but she could also simply stay away from Toussaint. She wasn't forced to go back and kill those knights, she wasn't forced to manipulate Detlaff into doing those things, she wasn't forced to assassinate her own sister, but she choose to do so, and as such the people of Beauclair faces the consequence. Detlaff had his hands tied, because he loved Rhena too much, but Syanna werent tied. Ofc this doesn't excuse Detlaff destroying Beauclair, but it definitely doesn't make him a bigger asshole than Syanna either. Letting Detlaff go will prolly just end with that, doubt he'll give any shits about humans and likely do the same as the Unseen Elder and stay away from humans in general.

I find this a better ending, even if the Duchess is pissed off at Geralt. He did his job, to stop the murders going around in the city. Syanna got my hate when she used people to do her dirty work. In all she is, in truth is the true mastermind of the whole murder, the true Beast of Beauclair. And as I remember it was Geralt's job to kill monsters, regardless if they are human or not. Gosh, CDPR you really like to blur the lines here. Yes, I know she had it hard. But she could of taken a breather like Regis suggested and thought about it more, reflect. Yes Geralt, take a nice rest. We shall forever wait for another Witcher game from CDPR...

I am playing RPG's since 1999. The Witcher series is one of the best. Just looking at the recent DLC's "Heart of Stone" and "Blood and Wine" I must say, that CDPR did an awesome job. Not only the main characters are brilliantly described, but personas like Gunter O'Dimm, Olgierd of Everec, and of course Regis the Vampir bring multi-faceted, and highly interesting characters into the witcher story. I will certainly replay the game a couple of times. And I promise, other than during my first run, I will read each and every single bit or scrap of information provided during the game carefully. Not to mention, that I will shun all portals, just to make sure I don't miss a single detail. CDPR did a great job with the witcher series and I hope so much that they come up with witcher 4 sometime in the future. I looked into cyberpunk 2077 - nice to look at - but entirely dystopian fantasy worlds are not my cup of tea.

This is also most likely the canon ending if you want to play book Geralt. Canon Geralt will know he stands no chance against Detlaff, even with Regis by his side. So he'll take the lesser evil - sacrificing one woman and possibly his life to save the whole kingdom, including Regis' life. That's what he did in Blaviken, and what he definitely would do here. Geralt may grieve for Syanna's death, like he did when he cut down Shrike, but he sure will never regret killing/letting Syanna die.

I see this as another version of "The Lesser Evil". In "The Lesser Evil", Geralt decides to kill the snide, duplicitous b*tch for her treachery, curse of the black sun or not. I also believe that the witcher doctrine of neutrality would favour not getting involved in this personal battle. This is thus, in my (be it ever so) humble opinion, the best ending to BaW.

This may not have been the "best" ending, BUT I believe this is closest to the style of the witcher novel series and thus the closest to canon. A contract that cant be fulfilled due to unforseen circumstance. Geralt doing his best to remain "neutral" and ultimately being unable to draw his blade when he recognizes sentient thought behind a monsters actions. An ending that has no clear victor or loser, leaving everyone involved a little more jaded with the world. Geralt getting the short end of the stick, (penniless and beaten) just because theres no one else to blame. Dandelion coming in with the miracle move and using his wits to save Geralt, making up for the fact he did absolutely nothing the rest of the game. The list goes on, but yeah this absolutely feels like how a witcher novel reads. The author would be proud (if he didnt hate the game). Dont get me wrong the "heros adorned with medals and gold while the royal family is saved and the monster slain" ending is great for normal fantasy. But it never quite sat right with me for a witcher game.

I am so impressed about this whole "Witcher world".After reading all books and finished the game it's very simple to find out what Geralt the well-trained witcher only desires.A peaceful life.The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is a masterpiece not just because of being an open-world game with many possibilities or the great graphics,it is the story I miss every day despite the fact that I already completed the game after a lot of playing hours.Gwent was a good idea I tried to collect all cards but the monumentality of the game,the characters and the music that's the thing what found a way to my heart.It is not just touching it's the part of story-telling containing feelings like peace,desire and hope.It is very rare from game developers to make a game with such care and I really really hope the upcoming Netflix series will be the crown to this story.
