Things I got wrong in this video: 1) Calamari is squid, not octopus. LOL 2) The phrase "extending an olive branch" means to make an offer of peace to an enemy in the spirit of reconciliation. I have always known this phrase to mean "extending a helping hand" but I forget that's not the traditional meaning.
As a Greek folk practitioner I could not agree more about the church service. Greek Orthodoxy is deep rooted in ancient Hellenic religion which is completely magical!
I live on the Greek island of Cyprus aka the birthplace of Aphrodite, so it was refreshing to watch how our culture and traditions impacted you 🙂 Each island has their own beliefs and traditions etc but most follow the same ways. The only thing I will add about the Olive Tree is that to us, it is the most holiest and sacred tree. Olive oil and dried olive Leaves are used in Orthodoxy in every ritual to heal, cleanse and protect. We burn the Olive Leaves in our homes often for the same purposes. I've compared the Olive leaf smoke to sage and other herbal mixes and found that Olive Leaves are more potent. If you can get your hands on some, try burning them as incense and note the difference. Lots of love ❤🧿
Mati! My husband is greek. Im Italian. Thank you for posting your beautiful trip. I truly enjoyed watching. I felt like I was there,so much fun. I really like your channel and all that you teach, talk about, and the guests you have on as well! You're an amazing human being! 😊
This was so cool! The Evil Eye is huge in Italian folk magic, too. I wear mine every day. (I'm Spanish/Italian). I agree, Christianity is just a mix of early religious practices with the names changed, and the practice that was stolen is relabeled evil by the church. The island you were on looks like California. The wedding sounded fantastic! I love Europe. Thank you so much for taking us along, I LOVED this!! You got some really cool things, too. ❤❤❤ Edit: MATI! 😂❤
Mati! 😄 Glad you had a good time! And holy cow! The STAMINA for walking that far in that heat! 💪 And you're right. One of the best things I've discovered in exploring witchy things is how much the world opens up and connections are made between things. Of seeing the similarities while still respecting the significance of the distinct differences.💜
Mati 🧿 looks like such a good time!! Thanks for taking us on your adventure! More international Ivy talking about occult practices in different cultures please
MATI Thanks for taking me to Greece with you. Athena has been with me since I was a child, I was drawn to her when we studied Greek mythology in school and I learned who she was. Seeing you get her helmet for your wall I was thrilled! It is so beautiful! I love that you went to the Parthenon. I'm sorry the energy wasn't as strong for you there. I never knew much about the Evil Eye but now I am going to look out for one of those pendants. I did an ancestor search for me a few months ago and found an ancestor from my grandmother's side from Greece, but I can't remember exactly when they lived, I should try again and find out more. I think it was like 2-300 years ago. But to know I have an ancestral line to Greece in some way, it made my day! Many thanks for sharing your journey with us and it made me realize if I ever get to Greece I hope there will be a season of cooler weather there. I'm like you, heat and I do not mix well at all. Such a fantastic tour you gave! Many thanks for sharing! :D
MATI Enjoyed the video and glad you had such an amazing trip. Gratitude to you for sharing your journey with us, it was neat to see the shops and hear about the culture. CONGRATULATIONS on hitting 20k, you deserve it!!!
Mati. Thank you for sharing your trip. That is so interesting about what you said. Greece was so religious, yet superstitious. I was born protestant and converted to catholicism in 2013, and that is when my witchcraft interest began, when I became Catholic. I don't think it's a coincidence. I'm so glad you had such a great time, I'll definitely check out your other videos. Thanks
Hey girl! Omg I watched this 2 days ago but didn’t get to comment at the time. I absolutely loved this vlog! Thank you for taking us along. It was truly like visiting Greece virtually! It was so cool to see you with your fiancée! You guys make a super cute couple! Also, it was amazing that u felt the urge to bring your evil eye necklace and then it just so happened to be a huge part of the culture in Greece. Loved the lamp you got to house your servitor! Also, the Alice in wonderland cafe place looked so beautiful and cool. Visiting Greece, Ireland, and Italy are on my bucket list for sure! Oh and the ritual with the key and lock sounds amazing! I must try it :)
MATI * Thank you for transporting me through this video, Ivy. So much to appreciate here, but I'm gonna say that the monastery up the mountain into a cave was something special for me because the images of the virgins reminded me of a little wooden plaque she had with the "Virgen Del Socorro" which is Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I'm gonna find one to put next to her urn or in my witchy space so that she is with me. I loved your advice to safely take some time alone on a trip to experience the land you're in, the few times I have remembered to do that it feels like a heightened awareness but in a very good way. I have so much appreciation for what I learn from you. I am keen and curious about both Egyptian and Greek magick and had no idea that they were melded together. I'm sick in bed secluded in my guest room so I don't get my husband sick so I'm gonna watch a bunch of your videos. Thank you again for another great creation! Ooh and love the idea of the wall of items from your travels!
Ivy, thank you for sharing this! ❤ I met my husband in Cyprus and all this brings me back a shedload of memories, so I'm just watching your video with tears in my eyes. 😢❤❤❤
Loved so much of this vlog, thank you for taking us along with you to Greece! I love how you sprinkle in fun facts along the way, let us into your world and enjoying life with your partner. Here in Australia we have the slogan “slip slop slap: slip into a shirt, slop on sunblock, slap on a hat” to prevent getting sunburned (long sleeved cotton shirts are best for protection and breathability). Holiday tattoos are the best! Mati 🧿
MATI girl! Thank you for sharing your adventure with us! I’m so glad you had such an amazing experience. We missed you, but we’re glad you were able to get out and visit Greece with family. You’re an inspiration to us all and we appreciate you so very much. Take care!
Thank you so much for taking us with you. This brought back so many lovely memories from my time living in Greece. I miss it so much...thank you again for making such a lovely long traveling vlog. Mati. I got the evil eye removed from a greek grandma I was helping on the farm! I didn't even know I had it at the time, but she immediately felt it. I also love the Olive, I lived next to an olive grove. I love everything about its spirit. I have three Olive trees myself and I’m super picky about the olives and the oils I buy since living in Greece and help producing our own olive products!!
I can completely resonate with what you have said. I feel like I left a piece of my soul in Greece and I don't feel that way about a lot of places. Sidenote, I just invested in some really good olive oil too! Most of the olive oil in the US is really low quality. I love that you have three olive trees. What a magical number for such a lovely plant spirit!!
@@daswitchling that is SO CUTE!!! What a great idea! I don't know if it would survive where I live because it's pretty cold. But I'll look into it now! 💙
CONGRATS ON 20K!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing your trip and for providing some insight into the Evil Eye! Absolutely love your content and we missed you too! Glad you're back home! MATI ( | )
MATI. Several decades ago, my grandma and her sister went to Greece. They brought me an evil-eye/ MATI necklace and I had to get rid of it because I felt it had some bad energy (this was before I knew about cleansing ). I just had the worst luck whenever I wore it. Love yours, it's so pretty. Thank you for sharing your trip!
I'm an Occultis, and more of Chaos Occultis if I may say, because I'm everywhere. I just enjoyed your (our) trip. Because I yummy it all up. Happy your home. Many blessings.
I am a malignant melanoma survivor... and super pale. I can highly recommend a sunbrella. They're usually silver on top and black underneath. They work very well and also cut the heat.
Thank you, this was great! Loved the dress you wore to the wedding, love the evil eye use over there! So glad you got to experience this and have so many items to use in your practice now! 😊
I have been missing an evil eye bracelet that I have had since Highschool and while you were talking about The Evil Eye I realized exactly where it was hiding!! 😂😂 I feel so relieved 🫠😎🖤🖤🖤
Mati 😊 I discovered your channel just as you were leaving and totally binged while you were away! I’m glad you had such a good trip and thank you for sharing with us!
Mati - I don't usually comment but have been watching and learning from your videos for a few months. Have been secretly practicing since i was young, but had to break from it because of sum awful life stuff. So have loved being able to pick up my learning with you. This vlog was amazing and Greece was truly beautiful ❤ I found it so interesting all the history and how it all interlinks together with the different historic traditions. Love your videos xxx
This was such a fun travelogue of your wonderful trip! I watched the first half about a week ago and finished it up today. I loved hearing all about Greece and how you incorporated magic into your trip! You’re very creative and I love your ideas. Thank for this. Mati!🧿
Mati💙🖤🤍 Dear Ivy, I want to thank you so much for taking us with you on this magical trip an that you put so much effort in sharing your experiences 🙏 I'm from Germany and I'm so glad to find your channel because it is so hard to find good witchy content from my home country here on RU-vid. And watching a lot of your older stuff the last couple weeks, was so supportive for my own practice, I'm just thankful for all the inspiration, all the structure in all of your videos, which makes even the complicatest theory easy to dive in and all your heart and effort that you put into your channel, to help others, to help me in this case. You give me hope, that I once finally can reach my goal to create witchy content on RU-vid for german witches and occultists, who can not speak or understand english good enough, to watch your videos. Hope that isn't kind of weird to write it out loud in the comments, but it comes from my heart 😅❤ Thank you Ivy Love and Blessings to you
Agree with you about the olive tree energy : I'm not a nap person since i'm a mum of two but I had some amazing nap time under olive trees while in Crete in July ! It was like calling me and telling me you need to rest !
I don't usually comment on stuff but this vlog was so nice to watch!! You're excitement about everything was honestly so contagious and learning a little more about Greek culture was so fun, I'm wishing I could go myself one day just to experience it all. I'd been meaning to really check your older videos beforehand but always put them on the back burner so when I saw your last video talking about giving them a go it really felt like the perfect timing to really dive into some of them. Oh, and that Alice in Wonderland themed Kook cafe place looked so beautiful!!! Thanks for letting us be apart of your exciting journey even if you couldn't show us everything due to weather. Mati 💖😁
I don’t normally comment on videos, but Mati and thank you for sharing your experience, including the overheating camera and phone. I’m on a long and slow magical path where my natural. skepticism takes over far too often, and your content is really helping me break down some of my walls.
Wow! It looks like you had a fabulous time! You looked so beautiful all dressed up for the wedding, and you're brave sitting with people you've never met! I can't even imagine.
MATI - I love love your Greek video, I've always wanted to go there, but being in a wheelchair and being single it would be difficult for me, thank thank you sooooo much I loved every minute 🙏🏻💜🦉
Mati! This was a fun vlog, thanks for sharing 😊 Greece is very much the same type of climate where I live in Texas. There’s at least one olive tree grove and lots of vineyards around!
I’m so glad you are back, I really enjoyed your vlog of grease, wow it’s really beautiful over there. And I love all the things you brought home. Looking forward to seeing your videos again.
Mati 🧿 Thanks for sharing your Greek adventure with us. It didn't feel like an hour. I really love your channel, always interesting content. Congratulations on 20k! 🎉
I don’t wanna sound like a stalker but from all the little clips and snippets we’ve seen of your house it looks amazing. Mati this was fantastic I loved literally every second it looked so beautiful thank you for taking us on this journey with you. Also congrats on hitting 20,000 subs and I just know there is more to come
Mati 🧿 Thank you for taking us on your journey! I did not know that the evil eye also occurs in Buddhism, I knew it only from all over the Mediterranean.
It looks like you had an amazing time! I had my own hiatus for the pass 3 months from RU-vid but you’re the first channel I visited ! And there’s so much missed! I’m going to go catch up!
I seriously love your channel and have been wanting to comment for a long time. Thank you for sharing your trip and experiences! I truly could've watched another hour of this vlog
When I was 2, my mother's father, my grandpa, married a Greek lady, and because I was so young, and my real grandma died before I was born, she is my grandma, even if not in blood. They would visit Greece every winter, sending us pictures and little gifts. When my grandpa got older and had a cancer scare, they decided to move to Greece to be closer to her family. He knew she would want her family and her home to deal with his death. After a series of strokes, he died and is buried on the hills overlooking the Agean sea. Because he so embarrassed grandmas heritage, helping at the Helenic festivals in Houston Texas for years, celebrating Greek Orthodox holidays with her, and despite us living so far from them, we lived in New York and didn't see them often, I think of that side of the family as Greek. I feel a connection to that heritage, even though I don't see any Greek in the family tree. Sometimes it feels like I'm an imposter feeling like I have any right to love Greece despite never having been there or having no Greek blood in me. My husband says it doesn't matter, I was raised to think it was normal and part of my life, so I should accept it, embrace it and he found me a wonderful group of copies of ancient Greek goddess statues that I have on my shrine. I always wondered if I could honor those deities, while feeling like I don't really belong? That imposter syndrome is a bit...
Oof, the imposter syndrome is rough! I have had similar thoughts about different cultures. From what I learned being there, the Greek culture is very open and welcoming. I think those deities would LOVE for you to honor them, even if you may not biologically be Greek. That whole culture was so welcoming - if you're sitting on the outskirts, they will pull you in and make you have a great time, no matter who you are. And the Greek gods have been worshipped by many cultures all over the world. In my experience, gods love to be worshipped and honored. It doesn't matter who you are - I'm sure you'd have a good experience. 💙
Mati--I love your content. I've been watching a few of your videos from time to time and I always love learning about other practices. Thank you for sharing your video on your trip to Greece.
Thank you so much for sharing! I’ve always loved Greece as the origin of much of Western knowledge, but I really want to visit now!! (Mati) Congratulations on your subscription numbers! As someone who has been around from the beginning of your Chanel, I appreciate you so much!
I'm having a high pain and fatigue day in bed resting and I'm so excited to travel to Greece with you! My ancestors are from Greece so I'm starting to delve into Greek magic so I'm very excited xx
Mati!!! Watching the vlog was so much fun! Would love a follow up with the servitor and the evil eye charm if it's for consideration - welcome back Ivy!
Mati! This was a lovely video for you to share. I hope to some day visit Greece, but maybe not in the summer LOL. I do have a very close Greek friend so I know she'd give me great recommendations.
This is an excellent video. Loved your witchy take on a new environment. (BTW, extending an olive branch means making an offer of peace to your foe after a period of conflict). MATI !
Haha yes I completely forgot to add in that part! I have always been told it's to extend a helping hand but I forget the original meaning is to make an offer of peace. I'll actually add that into a pinned comment right now. Thank you! 💙💙
Matiiiii As a Greek/Austrlian I can say yes the evil eye is very integrated into Greece. Fun fact too, because I’ve seen it in your video too. The phallas was also believed to be a similar version of the evil eye. Some of my family from some Areas of Greece has taught me this too. In Greek to English Mati (μάτι) In English means eye . I love vlogs and seeing you speak and talk about your experiences in Greece it’s honestly wholesome to watch. And I’ve been to Greece a few times. So seeing you trying to speak Greek was hard at times to listen but I get that you are trying and that’s what counts lol.
