Texas power officials say on Sunday night they were just minutes away from the entire collapse of the energy grid, which could have left millions of people in the dark for months. But now as power comes back online, Texans are facing extensive cleanup and high electricity bills. Omar Villafranca reports.

They have avoided regulation for decades, and thereby avoided upgrading their own grid. Now they expect the customer to pay more. What happened to the decades of profit they accrued due to the lack of regulations and maintenance?

cause now there’s a higher risk, insurance will go up, gas price will go up, electricity will go up. They had to buy power on the market at 9000usd/megawatt, they weren’t prepared to pay that and the customer will most definitely bear the brunt of that cost

@Ryan Shull Did you say the same to Californians when they've dealt with years of devastating fires that have wiped towns off the map. Most of those fires were caused by the electrical company PG&E. They opted to not upgrade the infrastructure of the power grid. The lines are above the ground, not buried as they should be. Californians have had to pay millions in rate increases to cover the lawsuits. The federal government stepped in with FEMA assistance. Should be the exact same for Texans.

solar was useless as panels were covered in snow and it was cloudy so they wouldn't produce hardly any electricity. I have some knowledge on solar and there is no way that we could have that much battery power (the costs would be impossible). I have an RV and charging batteries on board is enough just to run simple lights, etc...but nothing like a microwave, heater, or AC...it would be the same with a house.
