Within Temptation was my introduction to symphonic metal. You should check out "Paradise (What about us?)" featuring Tarja.

Ah, this takes me back about 20 years. I really loved them when I discovered them, the first Dutch band I got into. The band is still around, they've gotten a bit more industrial sounding lately. For something heavier from the same time period as that song, I'd recommend 'The Howling' or 'Our Solemn Hour'. From their 2018 album, I'd recommend 'The Reckoning', 'Raise Your Banner', and even 'Trophy Hunter'. And of course, there's 'Bleed Out' from their 2023 album of the same name.

If you like symphonic elements in metal, then I suggest you reach for Dark Sarah - Memories Fall. Dark Sarah is the private project of Heidi Parviainen, former vocalist of another Finnish symphonic metal band Amberian Dawn. As you can see, the Finns, and Scandinavians in general, have had a big influence on the development of symphonic metal. Dark Sarah is the fictional lyrical subject in the band's lyrics, with a dark soul. The studio version is performed as a duet with Manuella Kraller, in my opinion one of metal's best sopranos, but poorly appreciated. She is best known for her performances in the German bands Haggard (here she is one of many operatic vocalists) and Xandria (lead vocals in 2010-3). She now creates her own projects, but they are somewhat niche. At concerts, Kraller is often replaced by other well-known vocalists, such as Zuberoa Aznárez from Spain's Diabulus in Musica, or Johanna Lesonen from Lost in Grey. I think I've also seen a version with Tarja Turunen, the first female vocalist from Nightwish, but the video has disappeared from RU-vid somewhere.
