Black Symphony is the best concert DVD ever. If you haven't seen it from start to finish then you have missed an absolute treat

You would think it would have taken them a lot of effort to convince the orchestra, and this being one of the greatest orchestra's in the country, to play along. Actually it was the conductor of the orchestra who contacted them to see if they were interested. Sharon and Robert nearly fell out their chairs when he asked. Their reaction was we would not be making this music if we would not love to perform this live with an orchestra. That would a dream come true. Cool that you picked up that she sounded a bit nasal. In this case she had serious case of the flue and been in bed 14 days with a high fever until a day before the concert. So no she does not usually sound like this. Considering this i think it is a stellar performance she pulled off. If you would like to see what a regular concert looks like take a look a bonus feature of the concert dvd. The orchestra is the Metropole Orkest from the Netherlands and they are one of the few orchestras in the world that do these sort of projects on a regular basis and as such are really experienced at it. They can switch from orchestral work to big band (their rhythm section is particularly adept at switching to all styles of music) to jazz to pop to world music. They have worked with some of the biggest artist in their field and in the last few years have played in several Proms seasons in the Royal Albert Hall including a special concert dedicated to the multifaceted music of Quincy Jones.

You wouldn't believe it looking at her, or hearing her sing, but Sharon was actually VERY ill and had JUST gotten her voice back in time for the Black Symphony shows. Also, she makes all of her own dresses and outfits. :D

Regarding the nasal quality: in the days leading up to this concert she was actually ill. I think she didn’t sing at the dress rehearsal or at least not much. So she wasn’t at her 100% best. The line up you mention is not the lineup you actually see in this video. Robert and Sharon are indeed a couple where Robert actually stepped away from the band to make sure at least one parent was always home for their kids. He is still involved in the writing of the music and I guess more behind the scenes stuff.

I remember seeing them at venues where you could actually still see them up close. Crowds with 50-100 people tops. The Black Symphony concert was INSANE! Impossible to top 😉

they have done some subsequent one-off full scale shows, maybe a smaller orchestra/choir. . FUN FACT if you watch the bonus DVD if you smartly purchase the DVD or Blu Ray of this magnificent show, she had said that she lost her voice like 3 days prior to the show, could not rehearse, but did get her voice back on the morning of the concert, so they did it, even though she stated her voice was altered a bit , but it worked.

@@DereckReacts I'll even sweeten the deal. They are 3 beautiful sisters from Mexico (but sing in English), currently 20, 18, and 15 years old. The drummer sings lead on some of the songs *while drumming furiously* . And their lyrics are deep.

It was even worse. She had laryngitis with a high fever. Loads of antibiotics helped her through this concert. Unfortunately her otherwise crystal clear voice was somewhat affected.

@@Greyhound53200 It's funny how having a throat infection gets transformed into laryngitis and a high fever. Based on what's presented in the behind the scenes on the bluray there's no evidence of either, just a throat infection. Normal antibiotic treatment is probable but saying loads is a bit much because taking more doesn't help. The slight alteration to her voice was caused by her straining her voice a bit at the final rehearsal, she skipped two but said she felt ok for the final one and went ahead and did it, that's pretty much it according to her on the disc.

The slight alteration to her voice here was caused by the fact that she strained her voice a bit during the final rehearsal after having skipped the first two as a precaution, watch the bluray or dvd, it's all on there. There's also nothing nasally about her voice on the Mother Earth album, she's perfect on every song and anyone who says otherwise is away with the fairies, possibly living in the world of the song In Perfect Harmony.
