I'm a desert rat... I think the best part of watching/learning about your way of life is when you toss the "illegal to keep" critters overboard and give them a treat as a send off! Love it!

Dear Jacob, I've enjoyed these "not so fun part" videos even more than your education/lobster grooming videos. The nitty gritty details are what make our lives and allow success. Also, I run a facility with an awful lot of small, moving parts, so I really feel you on the difficulty of keeping that kind of system running.

There is something about the way you talk and explain the business that makes it so interesting. I've been watching your short vids for a while, and this is the first longer one I've seen. Keep it coming! I love it.

I think that's good that you mark your lines/ropes so they can be tracked. To many marine animals are dying from being entangled in lost ropes, so I love that you're doing what you can to prevent that. Also, liking that little helper you added to the crew, he's a little cutie

It’s good to see the inner workings of lobster fishing, people need to know why lobster are so expensive. Fishing in general is expensive also. Thank you for all you do and teach us the importance of respect for the environment.

I used to do maintence on some of the Humvees for the Army, and I thought that the steel cable on the winch was the cause for it wearing out like that. But I guess just friction alone will destory any material. That's an impressie divet on the rope wedge there...
@mgkleym
@mgkleym 2 месяца назад
It's something that happens on climbing gear too. Just the rope rubbing is enough to cut though quicklinks, carabiners and anchor rings. Its enough of an issue that you are expected to clip your own biners to anchor bolts to wear your own gear and not the stuff stuck in the rock.

To be honest, I started watching the channel because you are in Maine. My mother is from Skowhegan, and my fondest childhood memories are visiting my grandparents there and the beautiful scenery. In the grandparent's older years, they moved to southen New Hampshire, so I haven't been to Maine in about 50 years. Now, I really love the channel and find the lobster industry fascinating. (even though i don't like lobster 😁) You are great at explaining how, what, and why you do things to a point anyone can understand it. Thanks for sharing what you do.

In my youth I fished inshore lobster, crab and velvets alongside creel caught prawns from a village called Uig on the Isle Of Skye Scotland. All our creels were spliced from trap to dropper and the dropper to the mainline. We ran fleets of 25 lobster/crab creels or 50 prawn creels and hauled 12 fleets a day of prawn and perhaps 6 or 8 lobster fleets. Maintenance week was a nightmare of sore wrists from splicing all day every day. I like the look of your fid tucked lengths a lot better. Regards from Scotland.

Thank you Jackob, I genuinely love your videos and shorts so much. You can tell just from watching, how much you care about these beautiful creatures. Never fails to make me smile when you send the ones you can't keep back with a snack❤ The way you go about caring for these animals that also provide your livelihood is so heartwarming and in many ways, restores my faith in humanity. Finally, the way you go about educating others is truly inspiring. You always make sure to explain whatever you are talking about, (like a specific term or a procedure) even if you explained it in a past video, and you always do it with such positivity and energy, that it truly invites you (the viewer) to feel included & wanting to learn about what you do. Please keep up with all the amazing work and positivity you are doing with these videos and shorts!🦞

That discussion on bait fish has me thinking that someone could make a killing setting up a private hatchery and fish pool exclusively to sell bait fish, just so that fishing stocks can get given a break and some of those industries won't tank anymore.

I worked in wild blueberry plants downeast, we'd use UMHW a type of "plastic" on our conveyor belt sides, due to it'd take a while to wear out, wonder if you could use that for runners on your traps? I've no idea what the stuff costs, just used to replace it on occasion. Betcha some of the processor's would sell you their used stuff pretty cheap. Enjoy your videos Thanks!

The rope is the mechanism for wear, but the salt water and debris are your major sources of corrosion. The rope brings up some sand, creates micro-scratches in the metal, and the salt water goes to business. Were you just pulling that rope through the metal, it will certainly create some wear, but nothing like what you experience in a marine environment.

I wonder (assuming it's legal) if people are going to start double-buoying their equipment because of the break-away chain. Nothing like a little insurance to get your gear back to have a second line connected to it... Which, if that happens, will completely defeat the intent of the program, putting more lines in the water. It literally could make the problem worse.
