When people are forcibly displaced and become refugees, their lives hang in the balance. Upon arriving in a new location, their immediate needs are food and a means to support their families. Many rely on emergency food or cash distribution, but this only meets immediate needs. With years of displacement, short-term responses to a long-term problem cannot deliver sustainable solutions. Refugees need to build dignified lives in their current location, communities of origin or new places. FAO’s vision is for refugees to have opportunities to rebuild their lives and livelihoods; and agriculture can transform their lives. It provides food, self-reliance and can help maintain or restore peace with host communities. FAO's work also includes building resilience to climate change. Together with partners, FAO is bringing durable solutions. FAO stands proudly #WithRefugees, committed to delivering the support they need and ask for.
