I am Wixarika and have thee hardest time reconnecting due to not being able to learn Spanish and being so disconnected. Thank you so much for posting this on RU-vid and being so respectful.
It seems like there's so many obstacles to "real" learning, especially on subjects prolific to the specifc individual. I appreciate the time and effort you put into these lectures and sharing them for people like me. Unfortunately, I didn't have the greatest collegiate experience in my earlier years and felt I needed to focus more on work rather than education. Thank you!
as both a practitioner of reconstructionist polytheism, and autodidact historian, this very much reminds me of arcaic italic and early republic roman religion and understanding of deities, the dead, and entities, and the rapport between the mortal and immortal --- especially in line with Rupke's views on the lives religion...makes sense why years ago i felt a strong affinity to this religion + Kauyumari when visiting
That’s so cool! I loved reading Dumezil’s Archaic Roman Religion. Really went to a deep ontological level for me at the time and ended up in the PhD a bit (which was an appreciated part by two esteemed readers). Didn’t think how this was connected! But I should get back it. Thxs!
Do you think the conquistadors were a tool to rid esoteric knowledge. I realise I’m vying off info conspiracy here, however my intuition tells me there was something more going on. I understand the Aztecs were brutal with their human sacrifice however the Spanish really didn’t need to destroy all the ancient Aztec libraries, all that knowledge and culture lost, a story as old as time. Who would benefit from all this destruction???
Thats because you don't understand both the religious and the colonists mindset. If you erase a ppls identity it's population is easier to control. Also they legitimately believed that their religious rites and mysteries were evil. And Christianity demands converts from them.
