worked with one of the main DC cameramen on another project he was working on in 2014. He said they spend literally 90% of the day going through the motions without anything worth filming and sometimes if it's been 3 or 4 days without any content worth capturing they'll write up a scenario and stage it. He said probably less than 10% of what makes it to final cut is a "real" situation or if it is, it's extremely dramatized with quick cuts and music.

You are 100 % right. It starts at the top and blaming the rookies for traps going over without bait should have the deck boss fired in my opinion. I worked on a boat my entire life and captains who are hot heads and scream , blames his crew for everthing are the ones who go threw multiple crew memebers and wonders why. I would never work for a captain like that.

yeah seems like just drama for the show. also just because it's your job to do something don't mean it's your responsibility. the responsibility lands on the supervisors not the normal workers. workers are responsible for doing the job but it's the supervisors that are responsible of it being done right. this is just one of those moments where supervisors or anyone should have noticed.
